Chapter 884 - 887: How Can You Drink So Much Alcohol?

Gu Shaocheng stood up, went downstairs to find something to drink, and thought "drowning your sorrows in alcohol," aware that it was a foolish idea but unable to resist the urge to keep drinking.

Hua Hua arrived at the front door of her home, feeling incredibly excited, and to her surprise, she found her brother’s car parked in the garage.

Hua Hua thought it was strange; her brother rarely visited where she lived, and usually, he would call her when he came. Touching her hair, she hurried into the house, searched around the living room, but didn’t find Gu Shaocheng. Could it be that the car in the garage was a gift from her brother?

Such a thing was not impossible!

Haha, finally, she could get a new car. Although her own car was flashy and eye-catching, everyone knows that no matter how good something is, if you use it every day, you won’t feel anything special anymore.

Hehe!

In her excitement!

She went upstairs, headed towards the bathroom, planning to take a bath and then drive the car out for a ride. That settled it—haha, indeed, her brother was the kindest to her, always thinking about her.

But when she pushed open the door to the bedroom, she was hit by a wave of alcohol fumes.

She frowned, wondering who it could be, only to see Gu Shaocheng wearing a bathrobe, lying on the bed.

Hua Hua ran over like a gust of wind, almost thinking the sun had risen from the west, "Bro, why are you sleeping here? And why have you drunk so much?"

Gu Shaocheng glanced at Hua Hua as if he didn’t recognize her and said, "Get me a glass of water."

Hua Hua went downstairs and poured him a cup of sobering tea. Gu Shaocheng was too lazy to even move, simply giving a straightforward order: "Feed me."

How was she supposed to feed him?

As he lay there, completely stable and flat on his back?

Hua Hua came up with an idea, found a straw, and with a mischievous smile said, "Bro, just suck on this."

Disgusted, Gu Shaocheng pulled the straw away from the cup and gulped down the water in big mouthfuls, finishing the glass in one go, which finally soothed his throat.

Hua Hua stood by, concerned, reaching out to touch his forehead.

Her hand was swiftly and mercilessly slapped away.

"What are you doing?" Gu Shaocheng muttered unhappily, slightly drunk but not unconscious.

Hua Hua laughed awkwardly, "I just wanted to see if you had a fever or something. Bro, why did you drink so much? Are you in a bad mood? Did you have a fight with your wife?"

Just to explain a couple of things, folks, about the setting of certain locations.

From the beginning of this novel to when it reached five hundred thousand words, I had set City E in China. As you know, there’s been a serious crackdown on the internet recently, with many web novels being deleted, and the government has strictly forbidden writing about organized crime. Even if crime is mentioned, the ending must be tragic, meaning that any male protagonist involved in crime has to face harsh legal consequences, like ending up in prison, for example. So, you guys wouldn’t want me to write an ending where Gu Shaocheng ends up in jail, right? That’s why when I reached over five hundred thousand words, I went back and revised earlier Chapters, setting City E in Vancouver, Canada—a city with a large Chinese community. This was a reluctant move to avoid violating regulations. So, if you feel like you’re reading about Canada but it still feels like it’s set in China, there’s not much I can do about it; the first fifty thousand words are already written, and it’s impossible for me to change it completely to your satisfaction, to portray everyone as foreigners, foreign places, foreign customs, etc. I apologize, I really can’t make it perfect. Since I couldn’t do it for the beginning, naturally, I didn’t change the rest, and it wouldn’t make sense to suddenly shift from everyone loving Chinese food for the first fifty thousand words to having to eat Western food after that. It would be too inconsistent. So, the story is set in City E, with a lifestyle similar to that in China—that’s the idea, you all get it, right?
