Chapter 757 - 760: Silence is His Greatest Cry 7_1
She slept deeply, not waking until the sun was high in the sky. Warm sunlight mischieviously snuck through the gaps in the curtains, lightly caressing her cheek.
Chenxing lazily opened her eyes. A hangover reminded her of last night’s drinking spree, a mild throbbing in her head.
As she shifted her body, she felt an arm loosely draped across her waist.
She turned her head abruptly and the sight of Gu Shaocheng’s peaceful sleeping face invaded her vision. Yes, it was him. He was sound asleep, his brows slightly knitted, submerged deeper in his dreams than she was.
In that moment, her heartbeat surged wildly.
But after taking in the room’s decor, the heart that had skyrocketed plunged rapidly.
This was a bedroom in the Imperial Palace community, not the one in the Gu Family’s home!
In the past, he was concerned that she couldn’t sleep well in an unfamiliar place, so even when they travelled to Dubai, he would recreate the bedroom of the Gu Family in their hotel room. But now, he had brought her here, without thinking if she had overcome her discomfort in new places?
This disease was incurable.
What she recognized, was him!
...
Surrounded by wafting steam, Chenxing let the hot shower cleanse her body. She kept her eyes closed.
She couldn’t quite describe how she was feeling. Even though she was drunk last night, she still had her wits about her. She remembered begging him repeatedly to take her home, but in the end, he had brought her here.
What did she need to do to get his forgiveness? All she had done was fall in love with someone!
How could Shaocheng be so adamant and yet so unwilling in his treatment of her? Did he really intend to torment her heart like this?
...
After her bath, she cooked some porridge, found the first aid kit, and knelt on the Simmons bed. She proceeded to change the gauze on the sleeping man’s wounds on his arm and leg, and carefully treated some tiny wounds she had inflicted on him with her teeth.
When Gu Shaocheng woke up, Chenxing had already prepared a table full of breakfast.
He sat at the round table, rubbed his temples, and glanced at the food on the table.
A bowl of white rice porridge, its clean and pure color;
A plate of sunny-side-up egg, exquisitely fried. The egg white molded into a heart shape with a tender round yolk in the middle, and a rose at the side, making it an appetizing sight.
She handed him chopsticks. Gu Shaocheng accepted them, quietly drank a couple mouthfuls of the rice porridge. She was also having her share of the porridge. It felt as though they were a married couple, carrying out their daily routine.
Gu Shaocheng found this quite novel.
No butlers or servants at their beck and call, just him and her. It felt special - like he had unintentionally entered a world which was not his.
A truly ordinary world. A little family, a husband and wife. The wife prepares breakfast in the morning, then they head to work together. In the evening they return home, cook dinner together, maybe go for a walk, or just watch TV on the sofa, and fall asleep in each other’s arms when night falls.
"Is it delicious?" Chenxing suddenly asked.
Interrupted from his contemplation, Gu Shaocheng cut the egg into several pieces. He picked up a piece and took a bite, chewing carefully, then gave a lukewarm comment, "It’s alright."
Disappointment naturally flashed through her eyes.
"What about the porridge?"
"It’s alright, too."
"You’re too picky." She muttered. Her cooking skills had always been good. How could she receive such a bland review?
Gu Shaocheng squinted his eyes. "I only eat food prepared by top chefs. What kind of comment do you think I should give you?"
