Chapter 1074 - 1077: Hua Hua Speaks the Truth After Drinking 5
His sudden, forceful tug startled Chenxing, causing her to stiffen as she tried to break free. But his strength won out, pulling her to lie by his side. Chenxing turned her head slightly to look at him, the air thick with the scent of red wine.
"Hua Hua, I’m not Shaocheng. I’m Chenxing now. You’ve really had too much to drink—you can’t even tell who’s who."
Her entire body was rigid, too stiff to so much as flinch.
Luckily, the seat was spacious enough. Even lying shoulder to shoulder, they didn’t feel cramped. The fox-fur blanket beneath them was soft and comfortable, but as Chenxing lay there, he clung tightly to her hand. Her frustration mounted, causing her to stop struggling.
As they lay there staring at the sky, the sound of birds singing in the lush tree outside the courtyard could be heard.
For a moment, neither spoke.
Hua Hua truly basked in the feeling of lying under the same blanket with his elder sibling, staring at the sky. He couldn’t help but curl his lips into a dazzling smile.
"Big Brother, do you remember? Back then, the world only had you and me. I wasn’t a renowned fashion designer, and you weren’t the commanding Sect Leader. No one cared who we were. I was timid and often bullied, and you said I saved your life. You promised to protect me and that no one would harm me again."
Threads of sorrow seeped from the corners of his eyes and brows. He clutched Chenxing’s hand tighter to his chest as his throat tightened. With deliberate emphasis, he said, "Big Brother, have I ever told you? I’d rather live those precarious days of the past again than stay in this cold, lifeless mansion every day. Do you know why?"
He paused, slowly turning his head to look at her. That gaze—Chenxing couldn’t describe it. It inexplicably tugged at her heart with an ache she couldn’t suppress.
Unable to stop herself, she echoed his question, asking softly, "Why?"
He laughed lightly, withdrawing his gaze to stare up at the lofty sky. "Why else? Look at my life now. Eating, drinking, even using the restroom—everything, I do alone. I truly don’t want to stay cooped up in this mansion. It’s so cold here, without the slightest hint of warmth or life. Morning, noon, night—only me. No one to even talk to."
"My sleep has always been restless. At night, I often have nightmares, waking drenched in cold sweat. At those moments, I desperately wish you were by my side. Even if you scolded me for being useless, that’d be enough. But even this small wish has become extravagant. All I can do is turn on the TV, switch on all the lights, let the mansion glow with light to chase away the fear in my heart. Or drive aimlessly on empty streets, then wander into a bar to drink a little..."
"Big Brother, I feel so lonely—so terribly lonely! Do you know that?"
"Big Brother, I feel so lonely—so terribly lonely! Do you know that?" he said again, suddenly rolling over to bury himself in Chenxing’s arms. Chenxing froze in surprise, hurriedly pushing him away, but her ears caught the sound of Hua Hua’s muffled cry—a small, restrained sob that lingered in her ears, instinctively stirring pity within her.
"Big Brother, tell me... I already feel so lonely now. If one day you are no longer in this world, won’t I become even lonelier? I wouldn’t even have the chance to miss you!"
"What should I do then? What am I supposed to do? Tell me, what should I do?"
He became a completely irrational Hua Hua—an unhinged Hua Hua—panting heavily in his distress. "I don’t dare wish for anything grand. I just hope I can still be your little brother, can still see you beside me. I’ve never been greedy. But if the heavens take away even this last bit of hope from me, what am I to do?"
