Payback time

Julia pulled the chair and sat down waiting to hear what he had to say to her. Mr Wellington looked at her across the table for a while before opening his mouth to say something.

"You and Jason have gone through a lot because of the woman downstairs. In all, you suffered the most. There is a plan to put an end to all of this. Jason kept you out of it for a reason. At the right time he will explain everything to you," Mr Wellington said and read her reaction.

Julia lowered her head as that was not what she was expecting to hear. To her, how is working under Mrs Haward a plan? The woman had done terrible things to both her and Jason.

"Will I be okay?" Julia asked when she lifted her head to look at him.

"Yes, I would not leave you alone with her. I will be here with you," Mr Wellington said and Julia nodded.

"You will be fine just go back to your work. Do not hesitate to report anything she does that makes you uncomfortable," Mr Wellington added and Julia nodded getting up from her seat.

Julia exited his office without a word. Mr Wellington picked up his phone and dialled Jason's number

"Settled in your new office yet?" Mr Wellington asked.

"Yes, familiarizing myself with stuff," Jason replied.

"Okay, just checking in on you and remember what we discussed yesterday," said Mr Wellington.

"I will, but how is Julia?" Jason asked.

"She is not crying yet," Mr Wellington teased.

"Please don't let anything bad happen to her," Jason requested.

"She will be fine. I got my eye on her," Mr Wellington assured.

"Thanks, Dad," Jason said and the call ended.

Back at the Hawards company, James had arrived at the office, using the elevator he went straight up to what used to be Jason's office. Sitting behind the desk, he dialled the extension number to the finance office.

"Hello, come to my office at once and bring your laptop," James said, disconnecting the call after.

In less than five minutes, James heard a knock on the door. He asked the person to come in and the finance manager entered.

"Sir," the finance manager said as soon as he was inside.

"Sit down," James said, his legs crossed and one hand resting on the desk as he faced away from where the finance manager was sitting face his side.

"How does finance look like?" James asked.

"Sir, we... we .." the finance manager hesitated.

"We what?" James asked turning his seat to face him.

"We are good," the finance manager said and smiled.

"Good, I told you I don't want to hear any negative news. If we are running out of money get the people to work double time," James said.

"Sir, three of our staff have resigned and you have not approved the request for a replacement. The work has been added to the active employees. If we make them work double time, I am afraid they will leave too," the finance manager tried to reason with James.

"I will approve for you to replace one. With the two gone, we are getting some money back so we will keep it like that," James said.

"That is all you can leave and send my secretary over," James said and the finance manager responded with a 'yes sir' before exiting the office.

"Sir you sent for me," entered the secretary.

"You already know what I want," James said and smiled.

" I ..I..my..my.." the secretary looked away.

"What?" questioned James getting up from behind his desk and looking at her straight in the eye.

"My period came," the secretary informed him making James frown.

" Get out," James said sternly and the lady did as commanded.

James picked up the company's card from the drawer and sat behind the desk. He turned on the laptop, went through his unread emails and approved for one employee to be recruited to replace the three that had left.

Back at Paradise Hotel, the day slowly passed by with Mrs Haward trying to find a way to make Julia feel uncomfortable. She went round conducting inspection and after decided to watch how the servicing was done but in all, Julia made no mistake. Her shift finally ended.

"Where do you think you are going? You close only when I said you have?" Mrs Haward said but the receptionist was sent to get Julia again.

"Julia the boss wants to see you," the receptionist informed Julia and Mrs Haward left Julia alone.

Julia went back upstairs and found Jason in Mr Wellington's office. She hugged him, happy to see him after spending an entire day with Mrs Haward.

"I came to get you," Jason said and excused himself exiting the office with Julia.

They used a different route out of the Hotel so Mrs Haward didn't see Julia leave nor was she aware Jason was in the building. Julia and Jason left the company with Peter driving. Julia realised they were not heading home.

"Wait, where are we going," Julia asked.

"Is a surprise," Jason said to her with a smile.

After driving for a couple of minutes the car stopped in front of a luxurious restaurant. Jason put on a cap and a face mask before stepping out of the car holding Julia's hand. They entered the restaurant and were led to the rooftop which Jason had got for just the two of them. Julia was so surprised looking at where they were. The whole place was decorated with lights and flowers. There was a table for two with a rose flower. Jason picked up the rose and gave it to Julia. She smiled as she accepted the rose. He pulled a chair for her and she sat down and the dishes were brought in. They were all her favourites. She smiled ear to ear as she alternated her gaze between Jason and the servants placing the dishes on the table.

"My love, I know Mrs Haward would give you a hard time, this is a way of making your day better," Jason said.

"Yeah, about that, why didn't you tell me today was your last day at Paradise?" Julia asked with a frown.

"I will tell you everything when we get home. For now, I want you to enjoy yourself," Jason said and she nodded.

They ate their food and talked about how their day went. Soon dessert of ice cream with Oreo biscuit mixed was served. They moved to the rail to enjoy the view while eating their ice cream.

"Well, well, well, I didn't know you do public places now," came a familiar voice.

"Sir apologies I tried to stop him but he ..." reported the staff of the hotel but was stopped by Jason before he could complete his statement.

"James, this place is in use, so please leave," Jason asked coldly.

Julia just stood behind Jason looking on.

"What are you going to do if I refuse because this is my favourite place too," replied James.

"James just leave," Jason repeated.

"Or else what? You should leave, scammer," James said and Jason closed his eyes.

When he opened them again his aura had become three times colder.

"Julia, my love I will be with you shortly," Jason said and he walked towards James. "I said get out,' he repeated sternly standing toe to toe with James.

"Or what?" James questioned looking Jason in the eye.

Next James felt a punch land on his face, he staggered backwards and also moved to hit Jason but he dodged and gave James another hit making him fall to the ground.

"Now leave," Jason repeated walking towards James.

Julia moved away from where they were fighting and watched Jason, surprised at his fighting skills.

"Make me," James retorted and spit the blood out of his mouth.

James got up and decided to face Jason foot to foot. The fight quickly got intense with James getting beat down. After hands exchanged blows and leg kicks, Jason flipped James over making him fall flat on his face.

"That is for my child. It's payback time," Jason said and kicked James's side so hard making James groan in pain.

"Jason let's go please," Julia requested.

Jason called the assigned waiter and after informing him he was leaving, he asked him to clean the mess. The mess he was referring to was James.

"Jason I will make sure you pay for this," James yelled after them.

"James messed up our night, I will take you elsewhere," Jason said making Julia smile.

Jason kissed Julia's forehead and they both walked towards the exit.
