Chapter 664: Assassination
Chapter 664: Assassination
Under normal circumstances, there is a process involved in casting a spell, but the yellow sand floating around Duke seemed to appear suddenly, without any energy fluctuations being sensed.
The speed at which this sand appeared was incredibly fast, almost eerie.
The elf sorceress was sure that her magic had hit its mark perfectly, but to her surprise, it was blocked by this suddenly appearing sand.
They had some knowledge about wizards, but not much, and were unaware of the existence of Talent Magic.
The Shackles of the Moon enveloped Duke’s metallic yellow sand without causing a ripple.
This control-type Level 1 Magic had inherently low energy intensity, serving more as a tool for control.
At this moment, the lethal twin blades of the female assassin slashed forth.
But what met her was neither flesh and blood, nor a hastily formed energy shield.
Duke didn’t even move his feet; he simply raised his right hand calmly, fingers splayed, and made a gentle grip toward the two cold moon arcs slashing toward him.
The dark gold sand around him suddenly went wild, countless fine metallic sand grains converging, stacking, and condensing like a swarm of bees with life and will, moving faster than the eye could catch.
In an instant, less than half a meter in front of Duke, a dense sand shield with irregular edges, about half a foot thick, flowed with a dark gold hue and subtly patterned with sand vortexes, materialized out of thin air.
The surface of the shield was not flat but had a natural arc capable of deflecting attacks.
"Clang! Clang!"
Two ear-piercing metallic crashes erupted, and the female assassin felt as if her blades weren’t slicing into sand but striking a mountain forged from refined steel.
The strong recoil left her arms numb, the tiger’s mouth cracked, the moonlight energy attached to the Moon Blades absorbed completely by the sand shield, not leaving even a trace of ripples.
And that sand shield, aside from the slight movement of surface sand grains, remained utterly unmoved, without even a white scratch left behind.
This ordinary physical attack had even less effect on the metallic yellow sand, unless Duke used the Sword Qi from the Cyan Sun Sword, it wouldn’t shake such a defense level of metallic sand.
"This is impossible!" The female assassin was in utter shock, failing to hit, she showed no hesitation to retreat, flitting back like a startled swift, while casting several poisoned darts to disrupt any possible pursuit by Duke.
But Duke’s gaze had already shifted past her, towards the elf sorceress who, stunned briefly due to her broken magic, stood at the back.
His eyes were calm and indifferent, yet contained an icy coldness that sent a shiver down the elf sorceress’s very soul.
His raised fingers did not retract but instead made a seemingly casual swipe towards her position.
The next moment, the soft humus beneath the elf sorceress’s feet burst open violently.
Countless dark golden metallic sand grains surged forth like a fountain, instantly transforming into dozens of incredibly agile, razor-sharp sand tendrils, winding and piercing towards her from all directions.
The elf sorceress turned pale, hastily erecting a fragile moonlight shield while retreating rapidly, trying to escape the range of the sand tendrils.
However, the speed and coverage of those sand tendrils far exceeded her expectations, and it seemed inevitable she would be engulfed.
At this critical moment, the Level 2 Elf Warrior, just engaging in a fierce fight with the golem-like creature summoned by Ted, suddenly twisted his head, a bright silver light in his eyes, releasing a short whistle.
The moonlit spear in his hand flew out, not attacking the golem or Ted, but cutting a graceful arc through the air, spanning tens of meters, fiercely stabbing into the mass of dark metal sand about to engulf the sorceress, carrying fierce and unmatched moonlight energy.
"Boom!"
The moonlit spear clashed violently with the cluster of sand tendrils, exploding into an energy storm mixing silver white and dark gold, sending the elf sorceress flying out in a disheveled state. Though she suffered some shock injuries, she narrowly avoided being crushed and strangled by the sand tendrils.
The Level 2 Elf Warrior caught the returning spear, his face dark as water, staring deadly at Duke, particularly at the slowly flowing dark gold dust at Duke’s feet, and the sand shield floating in mid-air, slowly dissipating, his eyes filled with gravity and murderous intent.
This seemingly young Level 1 human wizard displayed bizarre methods, formidable defense, and swift reactions, entirely beyond their expectations.
The strange, moonlight energy-absorbing, extremely hard metallic sand grains, were an odd ability they hadn’t encountered before.
Just as the Level 2 Elf Warrior threw the moonlit spear with all his might, crushing the sand tendrils to save the sorceress, while the spear spiraled back into his hand in the blink of an eye.
The warrior’s eyes flashed with fierceness; saving his companion was merely a feint.
His true intention exploded in the instant the spear was in hand, old force just fading as new force surged.
He twisted the wrist holding the spear at an improbable angle, muscles bulging across his body. The returning moonlit spear didn’t stop, but leveraging its return force, propelled itself faster, more intense, and craftily by several times, becoming a silver-white lightning tearing through the air, no longer an arc but a straight, fatal thrust aimed directly at Duke’s throat, filled with his entire essence and Level 2 moonlight energy.
This attack was without warning, faster than most could react.
The moonlight gathered on the spear was no longer cold but as blazing as molten silver, carrying decisive lethal intent to pierce through anything.
Before the spearhead arrived, its fierce sharpness already made the hair on Duke’s neck stand on end.
The elf warrior’s face even bore a cold and resolute arc.
For him, despite Duke’s defenses being strange, he remained a frail caster, and having just cast a spell, was in a casting break.
This coup de grâce imbued with his entire strength and well-laid plan was enough to take his life before he could react.
Yet, Duke’s eyes never showed a trace of panic.
Confronting this assault, which would instantly kill most Level 1 mages, he didn’t even try to move or dodge.
He simply withdrew his finger lazily pointing towards the sorceress, and let it hover lightly before his chest, as if brushing off invisible dust.
"Sand Servant."
A silent thought transmitted through the mysterious stone slab connection.
In the next instant, a strange sight emerged.
Before, beside, and even behind Duke, three whirling vortices of dark gold sand exploded simultaneously from the humus layer and the air.
These vortices seemed to grow directly out of the void or as if the sand grains lurking in the environment had suddenly been granted life and form.
