Wizard: Starting from the Skill Tree

Chapter 663: Ambush

Chapter 663: Ambush

As their figures detached from the cover of shadows, under the faint purple moonlight of Eilistraee and the eerie glow of surrounding luminous plants, their appearances became clearer.

What appeared before us were night elves; their physiques similar to human females, even more slender and elegant, yet the details showed distinct racial traits.

Their skin was not human-colored, but a cold white akin to fine moonstone, delicate to the point of being nearly transparent, with faint purple veins visible beneath.

Their faces were as exquisite as works meticulously carved by a master artist, with perfectly proportioned features, lines that were soft yet retained a sense of depth, and pointed ears peeking out from the cascading silver-white long hair.

Their eyes were pure light purple, like the purest Eilistraee moonlight condensed, deep, tranquil, yet lacking the emotional warmth of humans, containing only an aloof and ancient essence that belongs to the forest and moonlit night.

They were dressed in robes woven from some kind of deep purple vines that seemed to be growing slowly and peculiar leaves that glowed faintly, with robe corners moving automatically without wind, faintly resonating with the ambient energy around.

At this moment, the two perfectly beautiful but icy as the moon elf priests were holding not bows or swords, but two short staffs embedded with small crescent-shaped crystals at the top.

As the short staffs swung, a light purple, aurora-like flowing veil unfolded silently, rapidly spreading toward the location where Master Ted and Elvin stood.

The veil appeared gentle yet carried a strong spiritual power and energy delay effect, it was the Silent Moon Veil of Eilistraee’s lineage, aimed at disrupting the caster’s mental focus and magic operation.

Night elves also had some understanding of wizards, knowing that wizards were also incredibly powerful casters, hence they acted first, trying to hinder Ted and others from casting spells.

And right in front, where Duke sensed the true main force of the night elf squad, there stood a tall male night elf with a clear Level 2 aura, holding a spear emanating silver-white brilliance, stepping out like a moonlit God of War from a clump of violently twisting shadows.

His gaze cold as frost, directly locked onto Master Ted in the group.

Beside him, another female night elf with a slightly smaller stature but as agile as the wind, held a beautifully curved Moon Blade in each hand, her gaze sweeping like a snake toward Duke and Shadow Raven in the group’s rear.

Six night elves, three in each group, launched a synchronized targeted attack.

The two on the left used Moonlight Bullets to suppress, the two priests on the right released interfering Moon Veils to constrain the main casters, while the warriors and assassins upfront headed straight for the core and most threatening targets.

"Defend! Handle it yourselves!" Master Ted’s stern shout exploded in the spiritual link, the tip of his magic wand suddenly erupted with dazzling incandescent light like a miniature sun, dispelling the creeping light purple Silent Moon Veil, while a condensed energy ray shot towards the Level 2 elf warrior at the front, attempting to thwart his charging momentum.

Una displayed incredible flexibility and speed, sliding close to the ground to narrowly avoid the Moonlight Bullet shot at her, as the light orb grazed her leather armor, striking the tree trunk at the rear, silently melting out a deep pit with smooth edges.

Hal was much more embarrassed, hastily throwing a small metal round shield, colliding with the Moonlight Bullet, bursting into glaring white light; the shield surface instantly became pitted and uneven, its luster dimmed, and Hal himself was also staggered by the explosion’s blast.

Elvin busily applied auxiliary spells of Mind Clarity and Resistance Enhancement to himself and Master Ted, trying to resist the influence of the Silent Moon Veil, his face pale.

He knew very clearly who was the core figure in the group—as long as Ted was still around, there was hope for resistance.

Once Ted was targeted group-fire and taken out, the remaining ones including him would find it hard to escape, at least that’s what he believed.

Elvin had directly confronted with night elves and knew their strength should not be underestimated.

Duke and Shadow Raven faced the agile female elf assassin wielding Dual Moon Blades in front, along with another elf mage quietly emerging from the shadows behind, holding a slender moonlight wand.

This mage was clearly the main force dealing with Duke and Shadow Raven.

As soon as she appeared, a light tap on the wand sent two silver-white light rings swiftly wrapping towards Duke and Shadow Raven.

These rings were not physical but carried a strong binding and energy restraining effect, it was the Moon Shackles of the moonlight series of control spells, aimed at limiting target’s actions and casting ability.

And that female assassin, at the moment the Moon Shackles were cast, her figure turned into a blurry afterimage, blades crossed, bringing two chilling crescent blade lights, twisting towards Duke’s neck and abdomen like scissors.

Her attack was cunningly fierce and extremely fast, clearly taking the chance moment Duke was affected by the control spell to launch a fatal strike.

Facing this coordinated and deadly double blow, Shadow Raven’s reaction was unexpectedly swift.

The long strip package in his arms had disappeared unnoticed, his whole person retreating rapidly as if swallowed by shadows, narrowly avoiding the Moon Shackles aimed at him, meanwhile sliding out a pitch-black, non-reflective dagger from his sleeve, precisely blocking one of the Moon Blades aimed at Duke with a crisp ’ding’, sparks flying.

Yet he was forced continuously backward by the aftermath of the other Moon Blade, evidently struggling alone.

All the pressure instantly focused on Duke, seemingly locked by the Moon Shackles, and with the assassin closing in.

The elf female mage’s eyes flashed with a hint of cold triumph, she was very confident in her Moon Shackles, believing that a wizard of the same level couldn’t break free instantaneously.

And the companion’s Moon Blades were sufficient to take the opponent’s life in that struggle moment.

However, just as the silver-white rings were about to touch Duke’s body, the air around Duke slightly vibrated.

No chanting, no apparent spellcasting movements, even no intense energy burst.

Only the ground paved with luminous moss and fallen leaves beneath his feet seemed to be brushed by an invisible hand, an extremely fine, almost imperceptible dark gold dust silently spread out, instantly covering a two-meter area around him.

The two silver-white glowing Moon Shackles rings, upon contacting this dark gold dust field, unexpectedly sounded softly like ice and snow meeting a red-hot iron, their light visibly dimming, dissipating.

Not broken by brute force, but the moonlight energy forming the rings seemed to be silently absorbed or neutralized by that strange dust.

"What?!" The triumph on the elf female mage’s face froze instantly, she hadn’t expected this human wizard before her to react so quickly, his spellcasting speed also so fast.
