Why do I keep attracting Villainesses?

Chapter 22

Chapter 22

Chapter 22.

It was a nice dream, but I knew that when I woke up, I’d still be in this dark, cold cave, trapped under the arm of a woman who was as beautiful as she was terrifying.

My life as a web novel extra was definitely not going the way I thought it would. Instead of a simple life in the background and a mountain of gold, I had a pile of bones and a very clingy mistress.

"Just my luck," I whispered to the empty cave, before the darkness finally took me again.

I later woke up once more, but because the sea witch still had her arm wrapped tightly around my waist, I was forced to stay perfectly still and wait until she decided to get up.

’ Each new day, I learn another annoying thing about this godforsaken woman...’

’ At this points, mermaids might as well become my most hated fantasy species.’ I said to myself.

It couldn’t be helped because this was beyond irritating.

All I could do was laid there staring at the rough stone of the cave wall, feeling her breath on the back of my neck.

I tried to move just a tiny bit, but her grip didn’t budge, it was always the same no matter how I tried to escape her grasp, she just wouldn’t let go.

’ Don’t tell me she’ll sleep like this for a few more days?’ just the thought of it filled my heart with dread.

I knew nothing about shark merfolk which meant my contemplation might as well be true.

But, fortunately for me.

Eventually, the lazy fish finally woke up on her own.

She shifted around, pulling away from me.

’ Finally! It took her long enough. Arrghh, when was the last time I hated sleeping so much.’

I said to myself, but that was when I felt something damp on my shoulder.

I reached back and touched my skin, and realized my back had drool on it.

’ Of course she drools to...’ I took a deep breath to calm myself. At this point nothing she did that annoyed me fazed me much.

The sea witch yawned loudly and sat up straight. She stretched her arms and legs out, rubbing her groggy eyes as she looked around the dim grotto.

The moment she saw me still laying down, mostly because I was waiting for her permission to move, she began patting me roughly, forcing me to sit up.

"Now this won’t do," she said, her voice sounding scratchy from sleep. "You can’t possibly spend most of your day asleep. Were you always this lazy?"

’Me lazy? You’re the one who slept for so long the sun probably went down and came back up again, you piece of shit!’ I wanted to yell at her.

My heart was pounding with annoyance, but of course, I valued my life, so I kept my mouth shut.

"Sorry, mistress." I slowly sat up as well, faking a long yawn to hide my anger. "It’s just the first time I’d slept so comfortably before."

Hearing my reply, a light smile made its way onto her face. She looked almost... happy?

’Please don’t tell me she thinks I meant I enjoyed sleeping with her...’ Just thinking about her misunderstanding my words caused a hint of gloom to almost emerge on my face.

I was just trying to be polite so she wouldn’t kill me, but it seemed like she took it as a compliment.

As if I’d ever compliment someone like her!

"Even though you enjoyed it, you should really learn to wake up early," she said, brushing her pink hair back. "A true shark doesn’t stay in bed all day."

’ And how would you know what a true shark does when you can’t even remember who you’re parents are...’ I said to myself.

"Oh? Are we going somewhere, Mistress?" I asked, trying to sound useful. "Do you perhaps have something you’d like for me to do?"

"You recall how you were complaining about not being able to get used to your new body yesterday," she said, sounding a bit tired as she stood up.

’ I wasn’t complaining you prick...’ I grumbled inside.

"Yes, that I do," I said, faking a curious look. I remembered the feeling of my blood boiling and the way I had almost ripped those two merfolk apart.

It was a terrifying memory, but I wanted to know if she had a fix for it back then, but sadly, her reply had only dampened my hopes.

"Well, luckily for you, your mistress has decided to make up for yesterday. I’m going to take you out today to help you become one with your new self."

"R-Really?!" I blurted out in surprise. I hadn’t expected her to actually care about my training.

If she could help me control it myself, wouldn’t that be a sheer blessing?!

"You’d really do that?!" I said out loud.

Then I realized I sounded a bit too much like an excited kid, so I quickly cleared my throat and tried to look more serious.

"I mean, this humble servant is eternally grateful of your magnanimity, Mistress."

She said nothing but gave me a small smile, looking quite amused by my reaction.

’ She’ll never stop treating me like this, will she...’ I thought to myself, feeling helpless.

" Come, let’s eat first, you’ll need all the strength you have for today.

She gestured toward the remains of the shark from the day before.

Before heading out, the both of us made sure to finish the remaining shark meat before it went bad.

It was a lot to eat, but my new stomach didn’t seem to mind.

Shortly after, we were outside again in our merfolk forms.

The transition felt easier this time; the moment I hit the water, my legs merged into that powerful, dark tail.

******

Right now we were quite far from the nest. My mistress had taken me to a massive reef filled with lots of grown aquatic vegetation.

There was coral and kelp as far as the eye could see, waving slowly in the underwater currents.
