Who Made Her an NPC?!

Chapter 144 : Oath of Allegiance to Queen Fu‑fu, and the Way to the Star Sea

Chapter 144: Oath of Allegiance to Queen Fu‑fu, and the Way to the Star Sea

Under the impact of the successive explosions, the signal tower, having lost its underground support, finally could not hold. Like a tree cut at root, it toppled southward, crashing onto the ground with a thunderous roar, kicking up lingering dust clouds.

The collapse of the signal tower signaled the official end of the Seven‑Person Council’s control—along with the aliens behind them—over Haidu, the massive settlement built on the wasteland.

With something lost, something new would rise.

As the signal tower fell, dust billowed. With the Seven‑Person Council and Fragment Star defeated, the one who stood up, without doubt, was Bai Fu.

Bai Fu stood atop a slanted, massive stone slab, her hand gripping the black staff. Though no crown of authority rested upon her head, the chilling aura she exuded, and the faint vortexes swirling around her from her Psionic Field, all amplified her terrifying presence.

An uncrowned queen.

Whether hidden superhumans too afraid to show their faces, or the civilians who had just evacuated under the cover of players, upon seeing Bai Fu’s slightly blurred figure in the dust, all shared a similar thought in their minds:

First eliminate the Truth Society, then strike the Gene Primogenitors—Bai Fu, with her superhuman record and those undead who obeyed her every word, was telling everyone on Origin Star:

Mighty ones, the era has changed!

The falling leaves carried the message: on Origin Star, Bai Fu had ascended the throne. Mankind had ushered in an era belonging to Bai Fu.

Although the former five great factions still had three intact, everyone believed that even if they united closely, they could hardly defeat Bai Fu.

Actually no—that assertion softened among those advanced superhumans hidden in the shadows, who thought more boldly: “Even if those three factions united, they would still struggle to withstand Bai Fu’s assault.”

After all, Bai Fu was terrifyingly strong.

Before Bai Fu emerged, many thought the Truth Society’s president might be the strongest ever on Origin Star. That belief, however, had failed to gain majority approval.

Now the situation was different. Anyone who’d trained even a bit knew Bai Fu was absolutely the number‑one superhuman in all of Origin Star’s history.

She had very likely broken through some limit. If she decided to go all out, no one in Origin Star could guarantee surviving her assassination.

In this wasteland era devoid of large‑scale WMDs, she was a walking nuclear weapon.

“I knew Satori and the others wouldn’t hold. We ignored Pombarton altogether. Now it's clear—the mech units Satori brought down from the ship and Fragment Star’s immunity to damage don’t even register in Bai Fu’s eyes.”

“It makes sense. If the president of the Truth Society hadn’t been a mutant modified by Fragment Star’s tech, Bai Fu alone would’ve been enough to bury Satori’s group in that previous attack.”

Satori’s strength was decent, ranking mid‑tier among advanced superhumans. But compared to the Truth Society’s president, he paled. His victories had relied solely on exploiting the president’s physiological weaknesses.

Facing Bai Fu—flawless and dubbed “Origin Star’s Destruction Dragon,” the hexagonal warrior—his outcome was predictable.

“They probably informed the Railway Guild by now. I wonder how they feel. Having an uncrowned queen suddenly taking the top spot must pinch, even if she’s stunningly beautiful.”

A senior superhuman, with little stake in the Gene Primogenitors, joked loudly.

In fact, the Railway Guild remained much calmer than expected.

This was largely because they had collaborated with Bai Fu before. To secure the cooperation, they agreed to Bai Fu’s request, promoting Su Li to minister prematurely.

Moreover, before Bai Fu entered Haidu, they had contacted the film company where Igor worked and obtained plenty of intelligence from him.

For example, Bai Fu planned to collaborate with Igor on a documentary; she had hinted at organizing undead to explore the polluted world; and that Bai Fu, being somewhat of an otaku, preferred to stay home rather than go out and fight when not needed.

These pieces of information led the Railway Guild to conclude: even if Bai Fu truly ascended to Queen of Origin Star, it wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing for them.

Staying home meant she’d delegate power.

Organizing undead to pioneer polluted zones was even better—undead didn’t really die, only weakened when killed, so sending them to pollute wastelands was perfect: no terrifying civilians along the roads.

Furthermore, if this plan succeeded and was implemented, Origin Star might actually recover to pre‑cataclysm conditions.

Thus, although they had a Queen Fu‑fu over their heads, their sphere of control expanded—and they actually benefited.

With these thoughts, after finishing the conversation with Igor, the Railway Guild’s leadership immediately summoned Su Li.

“Can Bai Fu beat the Gene Primogenitors?”

“She can.”

Su Li had full confidence in Bai Fu.

The Railway Guild’s high‑ups accepted her answer, and to show goodwill, they dispatched an elite team of agents to tour the Gene Primogenitor border.

After receiving news that Bai Fu had successfully eliminated the aliens, the Railway Guild’s leadership was ecstatic. They felt their gamble had paid off, and they were about to take off.

By contrast, the Former Republic and the People Alliance were in chaos.

Now that the Gene Primogenitors had been defeated, were they next?

“We’re not backed by aliens like the Gene Primogenitors were. And those aliens didn’t seem helpful anyway. If Bai Fu comes at us…”

They felt despair, unable to figure out how to resist.

Against a high‑level superhuman like Bai Fu, merely amassing small‑time troops was pointless.

“Let’s send someone to the Gene Primogenitors, test the waters—tell them we want to see how evil they've been doing backstage.”

Soon, all factions rushed toward the Gene Primogenitors.

Most sought meetings with Bai Fu, wanting to see what she would do next after eliminating the Gene Primogenitors.

A new monarch ascended—one had to understand the new sovereign’s character and policies.

Some aimed to profit from the chaos. These were daring wanderers and bandits, who often took advantage of disorder. When remnants of the Truth Society were chased and scattered, they reaped benefits.

But this time they had hit a rock—most players still had a sense of morality. Seeing these looters arise without Bai Fu’s orders, they charged at them.

[ Dessert after dinner is served, brothers! ]

[ Huh, looks like they came to hand out experience! ]

Players joined forces and wiped out all the miscreants.

“Well done.”

Bai Fu, having received the news, praised generously.

She intended to build Origin Star into a secret garden that continuously provided her with support. Therefore she would never tolerate wanderers and bandits living off plunder on Origin Star.

After letting players temporarily protect the Gene Primogenitor settlements, Bai Fu left Hei Fu and Little Hei Fu to watch over Haidu. Then she followed a few high‑level researchers she had casually captured to find the ship Fragment Star had landed on.

A hundred years ago, Fragment Star landed within the White Tower Republic aboard a spacecraft. Since the people of Origin Star had no idea how to operate the ship, it had remained parked there ever since—in what is now the territory of the Gene Primordials.

An hour later, inside a seemingly unremarkable karst cave north of Haidu, Bai Fu finally laid eyes on the spacecraft she had long dreamed of.

The ship was not particularly large. According to the senior researcher, it was a light cargo vessel, 42.6 meters long. Designed primarily for freight, its structure was kept as circular as possible rather than adopting any complex asymmetric designs. Viewed from above, it resembled a droplet.

Even as a cargo ship, however, the intelligence the senior researcher had coaxed out of Fragment Star indicated the vessel still boasted impressive combat capabilities. It was equipped with a then-new (100 years ago) Type II warp engine, smash-class kinetic cannons, disintegration beams, plasma torpedoes, and cocoon-type forcefield shields. Its output wasn’t necessarily inferior to space destroyers produced by low-level star-grade civilizations. The only drawback was that, as a cargo ship, its other features were quite mediocre.

Drip by drip, the stone was worn. After much exploration, Bai Fu finally saw hope for reaching the stars. She suppressed her excitement and asked:

"How fast can the Type II warp engine fly?"

The senior researcher shook his head. "Fragment Star never shared those critical specs. We only performed a few maintenance routines based on his instructions. According to him, though the ship is damaged, it wouldn’t hinder his return to the stars."

Bai Fu asked again, "When I interrogated you earlier, didn’t you say only he could operate the ship once revived?"

The senior researcher replied quickly, "Actually, there is an operating manual on the ship. But the problem is—we can’t read it. It’s written in the interstellar common language. Only Fragment Star could understand it."

A language barrier?

That was indeed a problem.

"Then how did Fragment Star communicate with you all initially?"

"He had a special device called the Language Perceptor. He used that to learn the international language of Origin Star. But that thing was lost ages ago. No one knows where it went."

Bai Fu rubbed her forehead.

No way. Now that she had found her chance to reach the stars, was she really going to be thwarted just because she was an "interstellar illiterate"?

She had considered torturing Fragment Star—but he was the type of hardcore savage who didn’t fear death. Even when she fractured his soul, he never once begged for mercy.

"There’s really no other way?"

The senior researcher spread his hands. "There is, but it’s troublesome. The ship has a main control computer capable of automatic piloting. It also learned the Origin Star language through Fragment Star. But it’s locked with a special restriction—it only obeys commands from the owner of the Pillar of the True Spirit. Even Fragment Star couldn’t override it."

Pillar of the True Spirit?

Bai Fu paused.

Wasn’t that the obsidian? She currently held two Obsidian Shards. If she obtained the final one, wouldn’t she then be the owner of the Pillar of the True Spirit?

With that thought, Bai Fu led her team toward the two laboratories already secured by Anya.

The two labs weren’t far apart. Along the way, she could conveniently finish the last two branches of the hidden main story quest [Savior Delusion] she had obtained from Pratt.

Branch 3 [Buried Secrets], quest objective: uncover the secrets hidden within Psionic Research Institute No. 3 Subdivision.

Branch 4 [Final Obsidian Shard], quest objective: locate the last shard.

Bai Fu first arrived at Psionic Research Institute No. 3 Subdivision, a division focused on psionic knowledge. When she got there, Anya had already tidied up the lab.

"Hmph, ambush me? Dream on! With the Prayer Cards boss Fu-fu gave me, even advanced superhumans would have a hard time. Let alone you lot!"

Strutting proudly in her power armor, Anya walked the corridor, where the lab guards lay scattered on the floor.

Seeing Bai Fu enter from outside, she ran over swiftly.

"Boss, I’ve found everything you asked for!"

Removing her helmet, her small face was full of eagerness for praise. As she spoke, her eyes darted toward Yulia.

Truth be told, she didn’t enjoy fighting—lying at home with Undying Ones fawning over her was far more pleasant.

It was all Yulia the wicked woman’s fault!

As the number-one Fu-fu fan in the world, how could she not understand what that wicked woman’s gaze toward their boss meant?

That woman clearly wanted to hide away with their boss and do some shady, "well-matched" activity!

Too much! She had been there first!

But that wasn’t even the worst part—Anya had a bad impression of Yulia ever since she beat up Bai Fu at the Abandoned Cooling Plant.

Who knew what ulterior motives that wicked woman had for approaching boss Fu-fu?

Protecting the world’s best boss Fu-fu was a sacred duty!

With that belief, Anya had been working and training relentlessly lately, hoping to outperform Yulia.

"Good work."

Bai Fu patted Anya’s head.

Just as Anya said, all the research records and psionic knowledge from Subdivision No. 3 had been gathered. After reviewing them quickly, the game notified her that the quest [Buried Secrets] was completed.

Unfortunately, she found no new Knowledge Chain among this psionic data. It seemed that the six Knowledge Chains she currently possessed were all Origin Star had. To progress further, she would need to head to the stars.

"This Newbie Village is just too limited."

Shaking her head, Bai Fu packed away the research files, planning to include them in her documentary for added content.

"Let’s go. Let’s check the other lab."

Again, she met no resistance.

After word spread of the Seven‑Person Council’s annihilation, most of the Gene Primordials who still had thoughts of resistance gave up.

Their boss was gone—what more could they do?

Might as well let Bai Fu do whatever she wanted.

Utilizing the characteristics of the Psionic Vision skill, Bai Fu soon found a hidden wall in the lab. Breaking it down, she discovered the long‑sought final Obsidian Shard.

"At last, all three shards."

Bai Fu let out a breath.

Looking at the shards in her hand, then at Yulia, she suspected Yulia’s power likely stemmed from the Pillar of the True Spirit. But now that all three shards were in her hands, what exactly had Yulia fused with? Could it be that simply being exposed to the Pillar of the True Spirit would grant her powers like Yulia’s?

She doubted it. If it were that simple, she could start mass‑producing super soldiers.

"I’ll go back and study it with Yulia later."

With the final Obsidian Shard obtained, Bai Fu’s expedition to the Gene Primordials could be considered a complete success.

She began to tally the rewards of this operation.

First were the two branches of [Savior Delusion]. [Buried Secrets] rewarded her with 2 million XP, and [Final Obsidian Shard] rewarded her with 700,000 XP and an orange‑grade rare Prayer Card: [Blessing of the Mind].

This was the only orange-grade Prayer Card Bai Fu had obtained so far, so she had high expectations for its effect.

"It should be a buff-type Prayer," she guessed.

Bai Fu opened the detailed description of the Prayer Card, and upon reading it, nearly burst out laughing.

[Blessing of the Mind]: Pray to the Void at the cost of 50% of your psionic energy, and receive the blessing of a Void Apostle. For the next 3 minutes, Inspiration attribute +20%, all other attributes +10%, all resistances +15%. Cooldown: 24 hours.

Wasn’t this card basically opening a second phase for herself at the cost of 50% psionic energy?

Compared to the half-baked Psionic Burst she had previously learned from Little Yulia, this was way more powerful.

Psionic Burst not only drained HP but also had lower stat bonuses, increasing only Strength, Agility, and Spirit. Blessing of the Mind, on the other hand, offered a full +20% Inspiration alone, which was invaluable for Bai Fu.

Her base Inspiration was 360 points. A 20% boost meant an additional 72 points, greatly amplifying her damage output.

The only downside was the high cost—it consumed half her psionic energy.

But for her, that might not even be a real issue. Didn’t she have Mana Recharge expert Yulia?

Seriously, Bai Fu now believed that rescuing Yulia from the Truth Society might’ve been the best decision she’d made.

Only one problem remained: as her level increased, so would her energy demands, and Yulia might not be able to keep up.

Her psionic class was only level 50, yet her psionic energy was already at 5430. If she leveled it to 100, even draining Yulia dry might not replenish that 50% energy loss.

"I’ll have to make sure Yulia keeps training her abilities as I level up. If I can help her awaken quickly, even better. She’s already amazing without awakening—I don’t believe she won’t be enough for me once she does."

Excitedly, Bai Fu logged Blessing of the Mind into her Prayer Card Compendium. Then she opened the [President of the Truth Society’s Last Wish] quest she had completed after taking down Fragment Star.

This quest offered rich rewards: 1.5 million XP and a [Normal Leech Card].

Despite the goofy name, [Normal Leech Card] allowed her to copy a skill from an NPC whose total level was under 60!

Bai Fu turned around sharply and faced Yulia, her eyes gleaming like a tiger eyeing its prey.

Yulia was bewildered.

If she remembered right, Bai Fu had looked at her the same way after they beat the President of the Truth Society. Wait—could Bai Fu have some strange post-battle craving for her?

Without hesitation, Bai Fu used the Leech Card on Yulia and copied her Psionic Field—her dream skill. Last time she had drawn from Yulia’s skillset, she’d regretted not getting Psionic Field. Who would've thought she’d get another chance after completing the Truth Society quest?

Confirmed—President of the Truth Society was her top patron. As for Yulia, she could barely count as top sister fan.

Bai Fu opened the Psionic Field description.

At Lv1, Psionic Field was pretty basic. But it could level up to 10, and even beyond. From that alone, the potential was extraordinary.

Including the XP gained from the Gene Primordials faction war, Bai Fu now had 9 million XP. Without a second thought, she dumped it all into Psionic Field.

Being a super rare skill, Psionic Field was an XP hog. Even so, Bai Fu managed to raise it to Lv8.

At Lv8, its effect was outstanding: 40-meter radius, reduced incoming damage by 32% (excluding mental and special damage), and dealt (Inspiration*0.8) damage per second to enemies within the field, plus a repelling effect.

Given Bai Fu’s current Inspiration, if she activated Psionic Field against players, anyone not playing a tank class wouldn’t survive more than five seconds.

That was Queen Fu-fu’s power of suppression!

"Great, now I just need to grind more XP and max this skill out."

Bai Fu was overjoyed. She already knew what to do after leaving the Gene Primordials.

First, synthesize the Obsidian Shards into the Pillar of the True Spirit and try to activate the ship. Then film the documentary and promote the Origin Star Reconstruction Project before the new game version launched to draw more players to join Sovereign of the Shadowed Night and support her grand cause.

But she also knew she had some matters to handle before doing all that.

Factions like the Railway Guild would surely be restless after learning she had defeated Fragment Star. To prevent unnecessary conflict, she needed to talk with them.

She wasn’t like that meme of the Western King yelling "kill kill kill" at everyone. If the Railway Guild and others were willing to cooperate with her Origin Star Reconstruction Project, that would be ideal.

While Bai Fu pondered this, her personal terminal rang.

Su Li?

Speak of the devil.

Bai Fu hit the connect button. "What’s up?"

Su Li replied, "I’ll be blunt. Since you took down the alien, the Railway Guild, Former Republic, and People Alliance all want to sound you out."

Bai Fu nodded. "Let’s meet then. I have a plan to share with you all."

The coronation was over. Now it was time to announce to all players—she was the true protagonist of Origin Star!
