Who Made Her an NPC?!

Chapter 114 : Shocking the Whole Audience, Who is Bai Fu?

Chapter 114 : Shocking the Whole Audience, Who is Bai Fu?

Chapter 114: Shocking the Whole Audience, Who is Bai Fu?

The Truth Society President wanted to have a word with Bai Fu, and even specially left a brainwashed Mutant in the laboratory for that purpose. It was hard not to draw attention from others with a move like this.

The smile on Bai Fu’s face, who had been the focus of everyone’s attention, gradually disappeared.

This old bastard of a Truth Society President must have suffered a loss at her hands and was now deliberately pulling a stunt like this to trap her, right?

Fine, fine, if that’s how you want to play, then next time we meet, I’ll have to raise the intensity a bit. Even if I can’t kill you, I’ll make sure to rip off both your arms!

In the silence, Behim was the first to step forward: “Interesting, I was just worried I couldn’t find him, and now he actually came out on his own. I’d like to see what he has to say.”

As he spoke, he gave Bai Fu a deep glance, eyes full of meaning.

Then, he began directing the Mechanic who had been moving with the main group: “This is a chance. Try to trace his signal. If we can pinpoint his current location… then the century-long history of the Truth Society ends today!”

Behim suddenly let out a cold laugh, as if once he learned the President’s location, he could instantly teleport over and kill him on the spot.

So dramatic?

Bai Fu’s eye twitched slightly. She raised her Personal Terminal: “Are you ready? If you are, I’ll contact him now.”

“Miss Silver Moon, please wait a moment.”

The Mechanic busied himself for several minutes, even bringing over an external screen, and only then gestured to Bai Fu to proceed.

Bai Fu input a number into her Personal Terminal. When the beeping sound came through the device, everyone held their breath.

Seconds later, accompanied by a soft ding, a figure appeared on the screen.

It was the Truth Society President. His face bore no discernible expression.

To Bai Fu, this was her second encounter with the Truth Society President. It was no longer novel, but to everyone else present—especially those involved in intelligence work—this was undoubtedly a historic moment.

Since joining the intelligence department, the name of the Truth Society President had echoed in their ears without cease.

They had given him many nicknames, and invited numerous experts to draw his appearance based on his actions and displayed personality.

Most of those portraits exaggerated his ferocity and crudeness, like Zhang Mazi. A few depicted him with exceptional looks to highlight his charisma, but even those included traces of ruthlessness in the corners of his eyes and gaze.

However, when the Truth Society President finally appeared, every Special Agent present froze.

He looked too ordinary—just like any average person they might encounter on their daily commute.

In fact, Bai Fu had thought the same when she first met the Truth Society President, but her impression wasn’t as deep as Su Li and the others, simply because her interaction with him had been too brief.

“For real?”

“Is this a body double?”

“If he really looks like this, then on some day in the past, when we were investigating him, he might have been sitting right next to us?”

It’s always difficult for people to change the perceptions already formed in their minds.

Bai Fu ignored everyone around her and said, “Heard you wanted a few words with me?”

The President raised his right hand and gestured a four: “Since your name appeared in the Combat Unit’s reports, I’ve suffered four losses at your hands. I haven’t experienced that in years.”

“This won’t be the end,” Bai Fu replied.

The President wasn’t angry: “But I disagree. The small scuffles are over now. Bai Fu, this will be your closest chance to killing me yet!”

Before Bai Fu could respond, Behim couldn’t hold it in.

He burst out laughing and mocked, “A rat from the sewers dares to talk big? Next time we meet, I’ll twist your head right off your neck myself!”

The President still wasn’t angry. He simply said one word coolly: “Scram.”

That word hit Behim’s heart like a bullet.

“Bastard, you think you can tell me to scram? If you’ve got the guts, come out right now!”

The President silently stared at Behim.

Behim wanted to hurl more insults, but suddenly felt like he had fallen into an ice cave. A bone-chilling cold rose from his tailbone to the top of his skull, and his body involuntarily shivered.

He had actually been scared?

Furious and humiliated, Behim was just about to act when Ding Hongtao of the Human Alliance stopped him.

“Shut up. Now’s not the time for this nonsense.”

Not just Ding Hongtao—even those not from the Old Republic wore unfriendly expressions. Behim had no choice but to sulk in silence.

Bai Fu raised an eyebrow lightly and asked, “You went to all this trouble just to hurl some threats at me?”

The President said, “I’m very curious about who you really are. When you collaborated with the Gene Primordials, I had people secretly investigate your identity. The report I received was a complete blank.”

Bai Fu replied, “Is it possible that my past is as plain as your face—so plain that it appears like a blank slate?”

The President shook his head. “It doesn’t matter if you don’t say. I’ve already mobilized people to investigate. I believe others are just as curious about your real identity.”

Bai Fu: “……”

See? No one believes the truth when I say it, so I might as well keep up the mystery and let people spiral into overthinking.

You people have really made ‘Me’ suffer!

“Bai Fu, we don’t actually have to be enemies. If you’re willing to surrender and join the Truth Society, I can forgive all your past offenses and share with you our advanced Psionic knowledge.”

As soon as the President said this, more than a dozen gazes immediately locked onto Bai Fu.

Bai Fu remained calm as ever: “Our paths are different; there’s no point in working together.”

“Very well.” The President nodded. “I will only give you one chance. Since your answer is a refusal, you’d better hide. Otherwise, our next meeting will be your death. No one will be able to save you!”

Bai Fu laughed: “Even though you keep making trouble for me, issuing death threats again and again, I don’t really hate you. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have progressed so quickly. So next time we meet, I’ll leave your corpse intact.”

“You have no idea where my limits lie!”

The President abruptly ended the call.

There was no visible change in his expression, but from his tone, it was clear he was already on the verge of losing control.

Bai Fu didn’t care. She turned to the Mechanic beside her and asked, “Well? Did you locate him?”

The Mechanic looked embarrassed: “The other side has a Mechanic too, and a far superior one at that. All my attempts failed.”

Well, I figured that would happen.

Bai Fu hadn’t held out much hope to begin with, so she wasn’t particularly disappointed.

“Figure it out yourselves.”

She said something to those around her, then began checking the other gains from this operation on her own.

Aside from the obvious gains, she had also received many hidden benefits.

After finding the blueprint that hadn’t been destroyed in time and unlocking the 【Another Psionic Primordial】 quest, she gained 0.2% exploration progress. With the fall of the Marsk Mutant Laboratory, her contribution to the destruction of the Truth Society rose from 11.45% to 22.61%, almost doubling, which showed just how important this laboratory was to the Truth Society.

However, these improvements were still just numbers for now; it would take more time to convert them into actual benefits.

At this stage, to grind more XP, aside from having Hei Fu continually create cards, she could only rely on main quests.

Bai Fu had already decided what to do after leaving the Marsk Mutant Laboratory.

The first thing was to lift the recruitment restriction at the Garden of Silence and recruit more Players to help rebuild the Goli Desert. Next, she would go to the Old Republic and the Gene Primordials to complete the main storyline branches.

What she hesitated about now was whether to go to the Old Republic first or the Gene Primordials. From the Goli Desert, the distance to both major factions wasn’t too different.

“Judging from Pratt’s quest, the Old Republic isn’t exactly good either, but I have no personal grudge with them. So I’ll go cause trouble for the Gene Primordials first, and then—”

“Wait!”

As Bai Fu was deep in thought, Behim’s shout interrupted her. She looked up to see Behim staring at her with rage.

“Don’t you all think this conversation came out of nowhere?”

Su Li frowned slightly. “What do you mean?”

Behim said, “Isn’t it possible this was all an act? What if Bai Fu has already secretly defected to the Truth Society, and this was their way of helping her clear suspicion so she can infiltrate us? Of course, I’m just suggesting a possibility—it might not be true. Or maybe the Truth Society did this intentionally to make us think that, and sow discord among us. Either way, for security reasons, I think we must conduct a review on Bai Fu.”

If Behim’s first half sounded a bit far-fetched, the latter half made some people adopt a neutral stance. That was exactly how those from the Human Alliance felt. They didn’t necessarily suspect Bai Fu of colluding with the Truth Society—they were just curious about who she really was.

With Behim drawing all the attention, they didn’t need to do anything, just pretend to be neutral.

Su Li was furious on the spot. “You’re suspecting Bai Fu? Behim, I’m suspecting you instead, so should I conduct a review on you too?”

Behim snorted coldly. “If I’m not mistaken, you’re no longer part of the Railway Guild’s intelligence department, right?”

“Whether I am or not is none of your business. If you try anything reckless, don’t blame me for being rude. I’m not afraid of you one bit!” Su Li raised her fist directly.

At that moment, Bai Fu patted her on the shoulder, signaling her to calm down.

Actually, from the moment they met, Bai Fu had noticed Behim’s attitude toward her wasn’t good. His Favorability was even in the negatives, though not by much. She strongly suspected that Behim’s hostility was not just due to his impulsive nature or personal dislike, but for another reason.

“There’s something I have to make clear.”

Bai Fu stepped in front of the furious Su Li.

“I never intended to cooperate with your Old Republic. So whether I have any connection to the Truth Society or not doesn’t affect you. Of course, you could use the excuse of fighting the Truth Society to forcibly investigate me, but if that’s the case…”

She paused, then suddenly raised her right hand.

Psionic Burn!

Boom!

Three consecutive beams of black psionic light shot from her palm, blasting a nearby wall into rubble. Even the lab ceiling, specially reinforced to resist explosions, cracked open, looking like it might collapse at any moment.

Bai Fu said, “I want to see if your body is tougher than my power.”

Behim’s body froze.

He could clearly sense that if those three blasts had hit him, he would’ve been seriously injured.

“You… you broke through that barrier?”

Behim’s voice trembled. His words made everyone’s hearts—including Su Li’s—race. Damn, Bai Fu had already unlocked an Advanced Class!

This changed everything about how they viewed Bai Fu. A Psionic with an Advanced Class would definitely attract the attention of all factions!

Those from the Old Republic were on high alert, terrified Bai Fu would launch an all-out attack. While they had Advanced Psionics too, whether they could stop Bai Fu was uncertain. Even if they held her off this time, what about next time?

If an Advanced Psionic was determined to destroy a faction, they could cause panic and chaos just with assassinations.

Damn it, that idiot Behim had to stir things up for no reason—wasn’t this just brain-dead behavior?

Seeing that the Old Republic’s people had stopped talking nonsense, Bai Fu was satisfied and withdrew her hand. Strength was power. If she hadn’t unlocked an Advanced Class, this farce would’ve gone on much longer.

However, Behim’s reckless antics solidified her decision—her next target would be the Old Republic. She needed to uncover the connection between the Old Republic and the Holy Spirit Cult’s epidemic, and also obtain the Old Republic’s list from the Psionic Diffusion Committee.

“This matter is more or less settled. I still need to return to explain the situation to those Undying Ones. I’ll come thank you another time.”

Leaving those words for Su Li, Bai Fu walked off. She was still in a hurry to tell the Players that Hei Fu wasn’t dead. If she delayed any longer, who knew what ridiculous stunts they’d pull outside of the Cyber Funeral.

Su Li, aware of the awkward situation, didn’t stop her.

As soon as Bai Fu left, everyone sprang into action, contacting their superiors with just one message—

Investigate. We must find out Bai Fu’s true identity. If there aren’t enough Special Agents, have the Undying Ones check too!

Thus, following the Truth Society, the Railway Guild, the Old Republic, and the Human Alliance’s Players also joined the wave of digging into Bai Fu’s background.

【Ultimate Mystery: Who exactly is Bai Fu?】

【Alien? Native genius? Or a hidden master from the world beyond?】

The topic’s popularity only continued to rise.

Among all those contacting their superiors, only Behim stood out.

“I originally wanted to use this opportunity to investigate whether she was connected to Pratt’s disappearance, but I underestimated her strength. She’s actually an Advanced Psionic—this plan is completely ruined. She’s very displeased with us now, so we’ll have to change strategies.”

“Let the Undying Ones investigate her.”

“Yes, understood.”

Behim ended his conversation with his superior. He now had a headache. If Bai Fu found out the secret that Pratt held, it would be a devastating blow to the Old Republic. All he could do was pray that Pratt’s disappearance had nothing to do with Bai Fu.
