When Love Turns the Tables: The Mysterious Husband's Chase

Chapter 800: New Year’s Gift (10)

Chapter 800: New Year’s Gift (10)

Jiayu stood up and walked to the window, looking at the pitch-black night outside.

Falling in love with someone can be easy, like a white shirt under the sun, a brilliant moment during a basketball shot, water droplets dripping from hair after the rain, or a glance, a smile.

But falling out of love with someone isn’t that easy; it requires a long period of disheartenment.

And she has really done it now.

As she just mentioned, she doesn’t need Xin Ke’s apology. In fact, she will not forgive Xin Ke; his apology is only for his own psychological comfort.

She doesn’t need it, nor does she care. What matters more to her now is another person.

For instance, is He also standing by the window daydreaming like her?

Or perhaps, is He celebrating New Year’s Eve with his family?

Jiayu pursed her lips and took out her phone to call Mu Ke.

They haven’t talked on the phone today.

The phone rang only twice before someone picked up. There was some noise on the other end, but it was so faint it could be ignored.

"Xiao Yu?"

Mu Ke’s deep and pleasant voice came through, making Jiayu’s heart quiver suddenly, her smile deepening, "Hmm, what are you doing?"

"Daydreaming."

Jiayu laughed, "What a coincidence, me too."

Mu Ke looked at the empty road ahead; he was less than five hundred meters away.

There was a moment of silence, then Mu Ke spoke, "I heard that during the Spring Festival, boyfriends are supposed to prepare gifts for their girlfriends, but I forgot. What should I do?"

Jiayu, holding her phone, looked up at the pitch-black sky. The weather was really bad, not even the moon was visible, yet her heart felt incredibly warm.

"What do you mean ’what to do’? There’s no need for that. We’ve..."

Before finishing, Jiayu shut her mouth. She meant to say, "We know each other so well," but after thinking about it, that didn’t seem right. She had thirteen years with Mu Ke, but he only had a year with her.

Why did she suddenly feel like they were so familiar? Gifts, surprises, really weren’t necessary.

Jiayu blushed slightly, Mu Ke chuckled on the other end. As his car made a turn and stopped, Mu Ke spoke again, "Xiao Yu, I have something to do. See you in a bit."

Jiayu felt a bit awkward, didn’t think much of Mu Ke’s words, and just softly replied, "Hmm."

Then hung up the phone.

It was almost eleven. Jiayu didn’t have the habit of staying up until twelve, so she turned off the TV, ready to go upstairs and shower before resting.

Just as she reached the bedroom door, her phone beeped again — it was a message from Mu Ke: [New Year’s gift is at the door downstairs, please check it out.]

Jiayu was stunned for a moment. Did he really prepare something?

Having it delivered this late, it must have been arranged in a hurry. There truly wasn’t any need for it.

Even though she honestly felt this way, she couldn’t help but smile, turned around, and quickly went downstairs. As she reached the front door and placed her hand on the doorknob, Jiayu suddenly felt like she had overlooked something, but the thought flashed by so quickly she couldn’t grasp it. Some chaotic thoughts still lingered unresolved, yet her heart inexplicably started to race with nervousness.

Twisting the doorknob open, a blast of cold wind rushed in and Jiayu instinctively closed her eyes and shrank her neck.

Then she felt something blocking that piercing chill and squinted slightly.

Under the dim light at the door, the man’s fair skin appeared slightly flushed.

"New Year’s gift, please check it out."
