Chapter 492: Like a Stubborn Plaster (2)

No matter what Su Anle said, Sheng Jianan acted as if he hadn’t heard her at all, continuing to focus on his own words.

After a long bout of verbal sparring, Su Anle finally couldn’t take it anymore. Her tone lost its calmness and took on a trace of anger: "Sheng Jianan!"

This time, Sheng Jianan finally stopped his one-sided conversation. Su Anle frowned at him: "We ended three years ago. Can you stop doing this? Can’t you find anyone you want? Why do you have to cling to me?"

Sheng Jianan restrained his previous flippant demeanor. His eyes turned deep and serious as he looked at Su Anle, speaking each word clearly: "I only want you."

"I..."

Su Anle was completely defeated. Just yesterday, he was so angry. Why is he clinging again now?

Sheng Jianan didn’t press her further. No moment was clearer to him than now, that throwing tantrums or getting angry was useless. All he wanted was her.

Three years, over a thousand nights, he had been angry enough, thrown enough fits. As long as she returned, he could let everything else go, without caring.

Yesterday, when Shen Jiyan appeared and he saw their family of three enjoying themselves, he admitted it had struck a nerve. But when he calmed down, he was still clear on what he wanted.

The two remained at an impasse until a crisp voice broke the stalemate.

"Mom..."

No one knew when the door to the inner room opened. Su Weiyi stood at the entrance, her eyes dark and bright, filled with tears. Su Anle pushed Sheng Jianan aside and rushed over. The little girl started crying, pointing her tender finger at her stomach: "Mom, Xiao Yi hurts."

Su Anle frowned and touched it, feeling a cold spot.

The little girl seemed in unbearable pain, tears kept falling. Su Anle couldn’t afford to worry about Sheng Jianan, holding her and walking out. Sheng Jianan followed closely, taking them to the hospital. On the way, Su Weiyi couldn’t help it and had an accident in Sheng Jianan’s car. A stench filled the air. Su Anle could hardly stand it, but Sheng Jianan acted as if nothing was wrong.

Once they got to the hospital, he arranged for a doctor and a room for them. Su Weiyi’s condition was not optimistic. Su Anle was busy taking care of her, having no time for Sheng Jianan.

The doctor diagnosed that Su Weiyi had eaten something unclean, along with an existing slight cold, leading to gastroenteritis, hence her current state.

Sometime later, Sheng Jianan came in from outside carrying a bag containing a new set of children’s clothes.

Su Anle cleaned up Su Weiyi a bit, and without being overly particular, changed her into the clothes Sheng Jianan had bought. A nurse came to give her an IV drip. The little girl vomited twice in the meantime, looking paler and paler, but only fell asleep against the white pillow after about half of the drip.

All focus was on Su Weiyi, making the situation between Su Anle and Sheng Jianan less awkward.

Sheng Jianan sat by the bed, occasionally tucking in Su Weiyi’s blanket, checking the drip speed to ensure it wasn’t too fast.

From his eyes, Su Anle saw a trace of tenderness. Sheng Jianan was someone without patience. When had he ever cared for anyone like this, let alone a little girl?

Su Anle sighed, then spoke: "Sheng Jianan, she’s really not your daughter; it has nothing to do with you."

Sheng Jianan seemed not to hear, his gaze still fixed on Su Weiyi’s small face.
