Chapter 374: Joining Shengshi (Part 4)
Since I start officially working the next day, I told Sheng Jianan that I’d stay in the dorm for one night and go to Shengshi directly from K University the next day.
"Let me introduce you all, these are the two new interns assigned to our department, Tang Yanqi and Bai Bing. Everyone, please welcome them."
The speaker is a junior supervisor in the finance department, named Li Ke, a middle-aged man in his forties who has a very approachable manner in both speech and action.
Shengshi Group’s map is too vast, and the finance department is divided into many small sections. Li Ke is the direct supervisor of the small unit where Tang Yanqi and Bai Bing belong.
Apart from him, there are ten other colleagues in this small unit, two men and eight women. Unlike Li Ke, they all appear somewhat indifferent, only giving a perfunctory clap for Li Ke’s introduction.
"Jingtian, you take Little Tang; Sasha, you take Little Bai."
Li Ke made a simple assignment and retreated to his office. Tang Yanqi and Bai Bing spent the whole morning familiarizing themselves with the department and the people in it.
The one who guided her was one of the two male colleagues, named Guo Jingtian, not even thirty years old, very young, highly educated, with a baby face and a radiant smile. Yu Shasha, who took Bai Bing, dressed somewhat like Sheng Jiayu, with a look of a strong woman, but always with a taut face, as if the whole world owed her something.
"Little Tang, take these for data entry and print them out, three copies."
"Yes."
Tang Yanqi was a top student at K University, wearing the halo of being top of her class, but in this department, such an academic background counted for nothing.
Apart from her and Bai Bing, there wasn’t a single person without a master’s degree, mostly master’s and doctoral levels. Guo Jingtian, for instance, holds dual degrees in economics and business administration.
Finally finishing her workload, it was lunch break before Tang Yanqi and Bai Bing could exchange a few words, and they picked up their meal cards to eat in the employee cafeteria.
"Tangtang, do you know how I feel right now?"
"What?"
"Comparing myself to others is maddening. I used to think I was pretty good, but after this morning’s ordeal, I realized I’m basically nothing."
Listening to Bai Bing’s lament, Tang Yanqi smiled without saying anything. She had long realized the issue; the gap between people is indeed greater than the gap between people and dogs.
After getting their meals, they randomly found a place to sit.
Tang Yanqi had just taken one bite when her eyes landed on a spot by the window, her hands pausing mid-move.
"Tangtang?"
Bai Bing waved a hand in front of her and followed her gaze.
"What? You know that person?"
Tang Yanqi then withdrew her gaze, smiling: "Sort of."
After saying that, she glanced over again. The person over there happened to put down their chopsticks and looked in her direction too. Their gazes met in the air, and Shen Yao, smiling, nodded as a greeting before lowering her head to continue eating.
Do I know Shen Yao?
Probably not.
Although they had met a few times, Tang Yanqi had hardly spoken to her. Even at the Sheng Family, Shen Yao was always by Mrs. Sheng’s side, as if, as Sheng Jiayu said, she was the real daughter-in-law of the Sheng Family.
It’s just that Tang Yanqi hadn’t expected to encounter her here.
While zoning out, two meal trays suddenly appeared on the empty seats beside her. Qi Cheng and Bai Xue sat down together.
"How are you guys so fast? We just finished the meeting."
Qi Cheng said while shoveling food into his mouth, speaking indistinctly.
