Chapter 365: It’s Not Easy to Be a Sheng Family Daughter-in-Law (Part 5)

"What’s wrong?"

Tang Yanqi pretended to be calm, looking at Sheng Jianan with a steady gaze. The corners of the man’s mouth curved up a bit more, and his eyebrows maintained their usual arrogant and unruly expression: "You came to pick me up without telling me, trying to surprise me?"

Sheng Jianan’s tone was neither light nor heavy, slow and deliberate, but with a rising intonation at the end, giving it an inexplicable seductive feeling.

Tang Yanqi’s cheeks reddened again, but her gaze remained calm: "Actually, I just forgot to tell you, and then you turned off your phone."

"Smack"

She lightly got a flick on the forehead, and someone, clearly displeased, tossed out four words: "Insensitive to romance."

Holding Tang Yanqi’s hand, Sheng Jianan led her inside. Upon seeing Mr. Sheng, he let go of her, walked to the elderly gentleman’s wheelchair, and knelt down on one knee, eyeing Mr. Sheng up and down: "Wow, old man, you’re looking quite spirited."

Mr. Sheng glared at him: "You brat, no manners."

Sheng Jianan laughed, his deep, inky eyes filled with mirth, his thin lips curved slightly, as he said something more to the elder in a deep voice.

Tang Yanqi looked at him, only feeling the flower bud in her heart bloom a little more.

Have you ever seen such a person who could seamlessly blend roguishness with calmness?

Have you ever seen such a person who could perfectly integrate arrogance and levity with wisdom and steadiness?

Have you ever seen such a person who could harmonize childish rebellion with domineering intensity?

If you have, then you would definitely fall in love with him, because it’s really hard not to love someone like that.

Tang Yanqi was momentarily in a daze, her gaze forgetting to move away until his gaze inadvertently met hers. Their eyes met in mid-air, and even though nothing happened, Tang Yanqi couldn’t help but blush, lowering her head, and stopped looking at him.

That moment of eye contact was when the flowers in her heart blossomed.

On the other side, Shen Yao came out of the kitchen, carrying two plates of fruit in her hands, placing one in front of Sheng Jianan and Mr. Sheng, and the other in front of Tang Yanqi: "Aunt said these just arrived today, very fresh."

Shen Yao was very gentle, her voice just as soft. Tang Yanqi instinctively looked at her, smiling: "Thank you."

For some reason, she felt something was not quite right.

She had seen gentle girls before, Bai Xue was one, but Shen Yao’s gentleness was different from Bai Xue’s. Bai Xue was gentle but gave off the impression of a delicate and refined woman, while Shen Yao was more composed.

Was it this difference that made her feel something was off?

Tang Yanqi couldn’t figure it out. The sound of movement at the door interrupted her thoughts. She looked up to see Sheng Jiayu entering, wearing a white dress paired with a beige trench coat and a deep purple scarf wrapped around her neck.

Compared to the last time she saw her, Sheng Jiayu’s outfit today was more casual, but it still couldn’t hide her aura of a strong woman.

Mrs. Sheng happened to come out of the kitchen with tea and, upon seeing her, her expression changed, almost blurting out: "Why are you here?"

As soon as the words left her mouth, Tang Yanqi keenly sensed that the atmosphere in the room seemed to become awkward, but Mrs. Sheng acted quickly, forcing a smile on her face: "Jiayu’s here, just the other day Grandpa was talking about you."

Sheng Jiayu glanced at Mrs. Sheng, and Tang Yanqi’s gaze fell on her, clearly seeing the sarcasm and disdain in Sheng Jiayu’s eyes, just like how Sheng Jianan used to look at her. They really were siblings.
