Chapter 81-A Nephew I didn't know I had

Phill's POV

I rarely slept at work. I had no idea when I had dozed off over my desk. The vibration from my phone woke me up. I rubbed my eyes as I stared at the screen. Not one, not two but fifteen missed calls from Mercy.

I immediately called her back. She answered at the first ring. " Thank goodness you are alive. I thought I would have to send someone to check after you as well. Where the hell were you, Phill? "

I rubbed my eyes and strained to look at the clock. It was almost twelve. It would be early morning in Paris. Why was Mercy yelling at me early in the morning? " What's up, Mercy? Is everything alright in Paris? " I heard her heaving a deep sigh. " Everything is fine here but nothing is alright back home. You need to head over to Lea's place immediately. Her son is missing! "

" Wait! What? " I almost fell from my chair. " Yes! Our nephew went missing about an hour or two ago. Lea said she saw a hooded figure or something like that around her garage. In her camera feeds. The police are on their way. She wants you to head over to her property and get our private detectives working on the situation. Jake and Lea are trying to head back but there is a thunderstorm coming up. I don't think they will be able to set off before the weather clears a little. I hope it's not too late before that. Now, move your ass Phill. Why are you still on the phone. God forbid if someone kidnapped the child... " I could tell she was fighting to hold back her tears. " Mercy, pass me Lea's number. I am on it. Don't worry. We will find the child in no time.Wait, hold on. What's his name? "

" Kai. She said his name was Kai! " And then we hung up.

My heart was pounding as I grabbed my jacket and sprinted out of the office. The drive to Lea's house was a blur, my mind was racing with thoughts. Thoughts with over powering emotions. It had been three whole years since I last saw her or talked to her. I was reluctant to let go of her when she left. But I had no choice. The reason she was leaving Jake, also had me intricately enterwined. It was our family, my mother and I couldn't force myself into her privacy this time.

I had no clue whether or not she carried her pregnancy to term, given how mad she was at Jake. I had my doubts that she wouldn't harm her child because of Jake but then again, I never heard about him in news or anything. I did follow her work but there was nothing... no mention of her son. So this indeed came as a shock. Lea's son. My brother's child. My nephew, Kai. He was my flesh and blood as well. I felt a very unsettling turmoil. Something which I would never be able to explain.

As soon as I arrived, I called Lea while running up to the front door. The phone rang twice before she answered.

"Phill? Is that you? " She immediately asked. Her voice was strained. She was huffing like she had run a mile. "Yes, it's me! I just came to your place. The detectives have also arrived. They are with me. Don't worry we will find him. But where are you? Are you alright? "

"We're on our way to the airport," she said, her voice trembling. "Jake's driving. We're trying to get back home, but the weather's terrible.Have you found anything yet?"

"No, but we're working on it. How are you holding up?" I asked but there was an awkwardness hanging between us like a heavy fog. After a momentary pause, I added, "I’m glad you finally told Jake the whole truth."

"I don't know how to feel right now, Phill. Everything’s happening so fast," she replied, her voice breaking. "We saw a hooded figure in the CCTV footage. Can you check if there's any sign of forced entry or anything out of place?"

I relayed the information to the detectives, who immediately began scanning the footage. "Lea, do you have any business rivals or anyone who might want to harm you or your child?" I asked, hoping for a lead.Lea almost scoffed and then she hesitated. "Business, rival?" I knew exactly what she was thinking. The name that popped up was none other than, Elizabeth Rodgers. Our mother. But she was on vacation. She didn't even know Lea that well or about her child...Or did she? "I... I don't know, Phill. I can't think of anyone right now. But I'll try to remember. I just need Kai back. Please find him."

"We will," I promised. "Stay safe. We'll keep looking and keep you updated."

Before I could say more, I heard police sirens blaring through the phone. "Lea, what's happening?"

"The police are pulling us over," she said hurriedly. "I have to go...Jake, we are f*cked up! Now what do we do? " I could hear her yelling before the line went dead.

I stood there for a few moments as the detectives and Lea's staff got to work. The police also arrived right on time. The nanny got to explain how and where they last saw, Kai. After all preliminary examinations, the only workable lead was the footage around the garage area.

The police divided their team and started scanning the area and another team began to comb through the house.Lea's security and staff were all lined up and they were about to be interrogated separately. The nanny looked inconsolable. She has been crying nonstop from the moment I came and she looked miserable. I looked around at the portraits hanging in the hall.

Lea with her little one. There was no mistake it was Jake's. He was an exact replica of my brother, the same eyes and hair and smile. A miniature version of our rockstar.
