Chapter 80-Mad rush

Chapter 80-Mad rush

All hell broke loose when Anna's words sank in.

"No, no, no!" Lea cried, her voice breaking as she clutched the phone to her chest. "He can't be missing! Not my Kai!Where the hell did you lose him? "

"He was in the backyard playing, and then we couldn't find him. We've been looking everywhere." Lea's face went pale as soon as Anna finished talking, her grip on the phone tightening. "Anna, find him. At any cost. We’re on our way." She said, about to hang up.

Jake stood frozen, his face ashen. " How could you let this happen?" he demanded coming close to the screen, his voice trembling with fury and fear. "How did you lose him?" Anna looked equally distraught but tried to calm everyone down. "I'm so sorry! Maybe he's just playing hide and seek. He loves that game!"

"Are you kidding me?" Lea snapped, her eyes blazing. "This is not a game! Call the police right now! We need to find him!"

Lea’s fingers flew across her phone screen as she navigated through the security cameras in the house, rewinding back about an hour or so. Jake stood behind her, his eyes darting over her shoulder. “Come on, come on…” Lea muttered, her voice trembling with urgency as the recordings buffered because of her poor internet connection.

Jake’s breathing was ragged. “How could this happen?" It still seemed like he was in a shock. Lea glanced at him. “It’s not the time for blaming, Jake. We need to focus on finding him.”

Suddenly, Lea's eyes widened as she paused on a camera feed showing the backyard. “Wait… there’s something,” she said, pointing at the screen.

Jake leaned in closer, his gaze following where Lea’s finger was. “What is it?”

The camera showed a hooded figure moving cautiously behind the garage, a dark shape slung over its back. The figure seemed to be moving deliberately, but the footage was grainy and obscured by shadows.“Who is that?”Jake asked, his voice tight.

Lea’s heart pounded as she zoomed in, but the image remained blurry. “I don’t know, but that’s definitely not Kai or Anna or the staff. But if someone’s carrying something… it could be... "

" I don't care about the damn weather. Get us the hell out of this place. I need to be back home, right now! " Jake was driving like a maniac through the busy traffic, honking and shoving at every car in front of him. He was trying to get a private jet ready, to fly out of the country but it seemed like the weather condition had suddenly worsened.

They could see the rain clouds darken the sky but that wasn't the problem. There was a thunderstorm warning and it was about to unleash any moment. But Jake didn't care.

His phone rang again right after he hung up and this time it was Mercy. Jake passed the phone to Lea as he focused solely on the street. " Talk to her. Ask her to get our private detectives on the case. Ask her to send Phill right away to your place... " He was yelling one instruction after another as Lea's hand fumbled to take the call.

" Hello, Mercy. It's Lea! " Mercy chuckled on the other end completely oblivious to the tsunami that the couple was surfing. " Oh, Lea is it? What a pleasant surprise. I am so glad that you are answering my brother's phone. Are you guys like busy or something? I hope I didn't interrupt anything! " She giggled.

" No! No! Mercy! There is a big problem. " Lea blurted barely able to restrain her sobs. Mercy's tone immediately shifted as she realised Lea's distressed tone. " What is it, Lea? What happened? Is Jake alright?"

" Jake is fine. He is driving. We are headed towards the airport. We need to go back home immediately but I think we might not get clearance from the airport right away because of the weather condition. I need you to call Phill immediately and ask him to reach my place. "

" Whoah! Whoah! Slow down, Lea! Slow down! I don't understand what is happening. You are leaving right now? Why? Why does Phill need to go to your place? What happened? " Mercy was already moving out of her hotel, her car keys in one hand as he locked her hotel room with the other.

" Mercy, my son... I mean our son, Jake and mine... My Kai is missing! I think I saw a hooded figure near the garage in cctv footage. It was like half an hour ago. I need the police on it right away. Please, Mercy I beg you. Phill is the only... "

" Hold on! Hold on! Your son is missing? You had a son? Damn! It's Jake's? I thought it was Phill's. Damn! Lea! I am coming to the airport right away. I will call Phill right away but I don't know where he is at the moment. It's the middle of the night back home. Let me get our private detectives onto the case right away. " Lea could hear her start the engine as she hung up.

" Jake look out! " Lea yelled as she clutched onto Jake's arm, moment before he was about to smash onto another car. He was driving tok recklessly and had entered a one-way. No sooner they could hear the police sirens coming towards them, not very far.

" Shit! " Jake hit his steering wheel. " Not now! Damn it! Not now! "He kept driving despite the warning calls and the sirens blaring louder as he sped.

" Jake, I think we should pull over and explain! " Lea suggested as she repeatedly looked behind. The police were hot in their persuit.

" Not now, Lea! Not now! I need to get back to my baby! I just got to know that he exists and before I could hold him in my arms, he is gone. And I don't know where. I need to find him. Even if I have to burn the world. "
