Chapter 54 Live
Chapter 54 Live
Mercy paused just before entering the hospital, turning slowly towards the throng of reporters. She removed her sunglasses with a flourish, revealing eyes that sparkled with confidence and mischief.
The crowd hushed, hanging on her every move. They seemed spell bound, mesmerized.
"Y'all got your equipment ready for a live stream?" she called out softly pretending to clap to grab their attention. But they were gawking at her. She knew that very well but she was the daughter of Elizabeth Rodgers after all. She had some drama I'm her blood. "Because I'm about to drop a bombshell that'll shock the entire nation. Hot gossip, straight from my household."
The reporters erupted into a frenzy, scrambling to get the best spot.
"Over here, Ma'am!"
"What’s the scoop?"
"We're live in three, two, one...!"
Mercy’s smirk widened as she caught Rosa's eye. Rosa stood frozen.Reporters battled for position, shoving each other aside to set up their cameras and microphones. Tripods were hastily erected, and cables snaked across the ground.
"Move it, I need this angle!"
"I’ve got the best shot here!"
The noise and chaos intensified, with the barking orders and assistants rushing to get everything in place. The hospital staffs were speechless. They were expecting visit from a shareholder ( apart from Phill but he was also a doctor so they were used to him). They didn't know how to react. But sensing the gravity of the moment they brought out an elegant chair, placing it in the perfect spot for Mercy's impromptu press conference.
Mercy leaned over the seat with a appreciative smile and waited patiently, watching the commotion with a slight, amused smile. She allowed the tension to build, savoring the anticipation. Finally, as everything fell into place, she sauntered over to the chair, her movements slow and deliberate.
She sat down gracefully, crossing her legs and leaning back with an air of absolute control. She adjusted her dress and looked around, ensuring she had everyone's undivided attention."Alright, everyone," she began, her voice smooth and confident. "I know you were called here and you all are dying to hear what I have to say. Trust me, this news is worth the wait. But first, I want to thank you all for being here. I see familiar faces, and I know you guys are the best in the business.”
She glanced around, making eye contact with several reporters, including Rosa, who was now visibly seething. Mercy’s smirk returned. "Some people think too much of themselves. They take others for granted. They think they are the smartest and nobody can see through their tricks. My...my...how mighty their fall is. ”Mercy's words were definitely directed at Rosa.
She had her doubts on her intensions regarding Jake but today, when she found out about her tip off with the press, she was furious. She was furious at her mother and father. So this was the perfect opportunity for her to take two birds out with one stone.
"Now, where was I? Oh yes, the bombshell. But before I spill the tea, I just wanna say one thing." She paused for dramatic effect, her eyes locking with Rosa's once more. "For those people that think they can play dirty and get away with it. Well, I'm here to show them just how wrong they are."The reporters leaned in, their microphones extended, cameras capturing every moment. The atmosphere crackled with anticipation, everyone eager to hear the revelations Mercy was about to unleash.
"Ma'am, what’s the big news?"
"Is it about Jake?"
"Shall we be going live now?"
Mercy held up a hand, silencing the clamor. "All in good time, my friends. All in good time."Mercy’s unexpected appearance had turned the hospital grounds into a stage for a drama that no one had seen coming.Definitely not the one to Rosa's liking.

Back at the Rodgers Mansion -
Elizabeth’s eyes were wild, her breath coming in ragged gasps as she leaned over the table, staring into the open drawer. She had locked herself in her study. She couldn't fathom her useless husband had the audacity to humiliate her in such a way, in front of her children. She was having trouble maintaining her composure. The urge to kill someone...was growing stronger. The cold, metallic glint of the pistol mocked her. Her hands shook as she opened and closed the drawer repeatedly, her mind a chaotic whirl of rage and confusion.
“Goddamn it!” she screamed, sweeping her arm across the table, sending papers and a vase crashing to the floor. “How could he? How could he do this to us? To me?”
Her heart pounded furiously in her chest, her mind racing through thoughts of betrayal and anger. She wanted to scream, to break everything around her, but she felt paralyzed by the weight of it all.
A loud, urgent knock interrupted her thoughts. “Mrs. Rodgers! Mrs. Rodgers, it’s Marissa! Please, it’s urgent!”
“Leave me the hell alone!” Elizabeth bellowed, her voice echoing through the room. “I don’t want to see anyone!”
“Mrs. Rodgers, please! It’s about Miss Mercy! She’s gone live in front of the press!”
Elizabeth’s heart skipped a beat. She rushed to the door, yanking it open. “What did you just say?Marissa stood there, holding a tablet, her face pale with worry. “She’s at one of your hospitals, holding a press conference.”
Elizabeth snatched the tablet from Marissa’s hands, her eyes narrowing as she focused on the screen. There, in high definition, was Mercy, sitting resolutely in front of a small crowd of reporters. The hospital logo loomed behind her, a definite reminder of the family's empire.
The scene on the tablet played out in slow motion. Mercy’s voice was steady, but Elizabeth could see the tension in her eyes, the way her hands gripped the arms of the chair.
“Thank you all for coming,” Mercy began, her voice cutting through the low murmur of the crowd. “I have a statement to make regarding recent revelations about our family.”
"What is she doing?” she whispered, her grip tightening on the tablet. “What is she planning to say?”
Mercy continued, her voice grew stronger with each word.
“It has come to light that there have been serious deceptions within my family. Deceptions that have hurt many people, including myself and my brothers.”
The reporters leaned forward, their cameras capturing every word. Elizabeth could almost feel the weight of their scrutiny and their hunger for scandal.
