Chapter 22 Coincidence

Jake's POV

Damn! We just landed and then my stomach started to act up.

It must have been due to the prolonged alcohol abuse. I never had a high alcohol tolerance. Neither did I have any tolerance for substance abuse. But it had become my norm for quite some time.

" We will do a quick check up and then reach the spot. You guys go ahead. There is a descent hospital on our way. Might as well stop and get Jake checked. "

I heard my manager tell the rest of the team and crew as we changed our course ahead of the next bifurcation.

I sat with my hands under my stomach, couched.

" Jake, are you alright? ”

My manager rubbed my back as I squirmed my face in pain.

" I'm fine. Don't worry. I think I just need some pills... ”

He frowned before settling back in his seat and I didn't have the energy to clarify what I mean.

The car turned right after entering through the main gate. As we were headed towards the parking lot my manager suggested that the two of us got off at the emergency entrance.

I set a foot outside, one foot still inside the car.

A car drove past.

And it took my breath and sanity along.

There was no mistake.

I could identify Lea even if she was under a rock.

I saw Lea.

It was definitely her.

She was sitting in the seat beside the driver's seat.The seat was tilted and she was leaning back.

" Lea!!!!!!!!!! ”

K screamed with all that I had, extending my arms in an attempt to stop the car.

But it sped past her and disappeared around the corner.

" Jake!!! What do you think you are doing? ”

My manager literally pulled me by my collar and dragged me back inside.

It was true I had already attracted a crowd.

" I thought we agreed upon certain things. If you want you can take your time off and continue with your therapist. This behavior won't do, Jake. It's just not your career, you are putting my career also at stake. "

He definitely thought I was having another episode of mental breakdown.

I was hyperventilating. But since she was already gone, I had no other option but to give up and walk towards the emergency room for a quick check up.

" Ahhh! I think it will be safer to run a quick scan. You know, just to be sure. Repeated stomach aches could mean a myriad of things. With schedules like yours, it would be better not to neglect the emergency. I am sure you have time for that. It will hardly take ten to fifteen minutes and then we will be done. "

It turned out that my manager knew the doctor all along. So we were done real fast. But then he suggested an ultrasound was necessary and my manager decided we had enough time for that.

" Shit! This damn thing had to break down right now! ”

He ahd asked me to lay down on the bed as he got the ultrasound machine ready. But it seemed like the machine had other plans.

" I will need to call the technician. Can you please give me a minute? ” The doctor was about to leave when my manager grabbed him by his arm.

" We don't have time for that. Can't we use another machine? ”

" Ummm, I think the one at the gynecology depart should be working. They need it regularly so it's well maintained.

Come on. Follow me. I will ask my colleague. Let's run your test there. ”

It was definitely weird for a full ass grown man to breach the line of pregnant women and go straight inside the gynecologist's cabin.

I couldn't tell if they recognised me from somewhere and were talking about my work and were swooning over me or if they were gossiping about me and doubting my sexuality.

We were ina rush so I ignored everything and entered the chamber.

My mind was already preoccupied with Lea's image in the car.

She looked paler for some reason and it made my heart unsteady and heavy and hard.

As soon as I entered the section where the machine was I saw some images on the screen.

On the ultrasound screen, I could see this little bean-shaped thing floating around. It was about the size of a grape or a jellybean. I noticed these tiny arms and legs starting to form, like little buds. The head looked a little big compared to what looked like the body. I winked hard. All of a sudden it started to become hard to breathe. Just looking at the image, I was feeling something.I thought the substance abuse was getting to my head. I winked, closely looking at it and there was this tiny flicker, like a little heartbeat. It was amazing to think that all those tiny parts were coming together to make a whole new person.

" Extremely sorry. This belonged to the last patient. I was still studying it. She has a difficult pregnancy. ”

The gynecologist came running as we entered. " I will quickly clear this for you. Please take a seat. ”

I saw him pressing a few buttons probably saving some data and deleting the rest.

Soon the table was ready and the screen cleared.

They stretched me out. I could sniff a faint scent. It instantly reminded me of Lea.

Arghhhhh!!! She was again getting into my head.

The doctor was only a few seconds into rolling the stick over my abdomen when he yelled,

" Gotcha! Just like I suspected. You have some stones inside your gall bladder. Small ones but quite a lot. That's why you were having these repeated stomach aches. My intuitions are never wrong. "

His declaration was making me feel like I had won an award and not just been diagnosed with a clinical condition that definitely required surgery.

I looked at my manager and her looked grim.

So I went back to resting my head back on the bed and staring at the screen.

My own insides didn't excite me half as much as the tiny little thing that I had seen when I had entered.
