Chapter 14Good news

Phill's POV

Lea was finally up.

She was sitting right in front of me.

Her vitals were looking good but she did not look alive. She looked like a statue, sitting there, staring at the wall in front of her.

I gathered my courage and finally walked up to her.

" Feeling good? " I asked, despite knowing the answer too well.

She looked at me and forced a smile.

I sat down beside her and held her hand. She was taken aback at my gesture.

" Is everything alright,Doctor? " She asked me, surprised.

I nodded.

" You suffered multiple fractures. They will take time to heal. It's a miracle you survived to be honest and so did the baby."

Her expression changed from surprised to confused to anxious within the fraction of a second.

" Baby? "

She asked as the machines started beeping with the alarming increase in her heartbeat.

I held her hand tighter.

" Lea, calm down. It's alright. I thought you knew about your pregnancy. I thought you were worried about your child. That's why I broke the news so casually. Please calm down, Lea. "

I tried to beg but she was already hyperventilating.

" I am pregnant? " She asked again as if doubting my credibility.

" First trimester, Lea. If it's not something that you want, it's not too late for abortion. "

I suggested hoping to make her feel better.

She looked at me with disbelief.

" What are you talking about? This child mine, " She wrapped her arms around her stomach protectively. She literally made me think I was the threat but I let it pass. She was not in the right state of mind.

" This is my Jake's baby... "

She whispered as she started sobbing and then she erupted into a full fledged cry.

" Lea, please don't... " I was about to give her a hug but suddenly she stopped crying. She quickly looked around the room. There was nobody there except Lea and myself.

" Nobody should know about this. "

She squeezed my hand and ordered." Nobody should know it's Jake's baby. " She repeated herself.

I nodded. " Understood. Your secret is safe with me Lea. But does he know? I mean does Jake know that you are pregnant? "

My curiosity was getting the better of me.

" No, he doesn't and he must not know. " She tried to peek outside the door. " Does he know, that I am here? "

" He was here. I sent him away before you were still unconscious. He might return anytime. " I was having an inner struggle whether or not to say what I wanted but then I added, " He looked very worried and concerned. What happened? Did you have a fight? I can help you resolve the issue. Your condition is not anywhere near normal. I mean it's better but you will need complete bed rest and utmost care if you wish to continue with this pregnancy. As the father, I think he has a right to know. "

I didn't want to but I said what I said. That's what doctors do. They prioritise their patients.

" No! " was her sharp response. " He must not know about the child. I will talk to him when he comes. Send him in here. " She looked sad, hurt and determined at the same time.

" How will you manage by yourself? I thought you didn't know anybody else in town. " I was genuinely worried and curious about her situation. Why did she not want that moron to know about his child?

" I... I will go back to my hometown... "

" No, Lea. Were you not listening? You cannot travel in this condition. Not without jeopardizing the baby's life. Your own condition is fragile. You cannot travel atleast for one or two months. " I cut her short.

" One or two months? " She tried to calculate something on her fingers but she did not reply after that. She sunk back in her bed and closed her eyes as her hands lingered over stomach.

" Please dim the lights. " I could hear the crack in her voice. She was breaking from the inside. She was hurting back because of something but she was not going to show it.

I stood up and walked over to the switch board when suddenly the door of the cabin, flung open.

" Lea...Lea you are awake. "

It was Jake.

It looked like he had run several miles.

" We tried to stop him, Doctor Phill, but he would not listen. "

The ward boy tried to explain who was right behind him.

I dismissed him.

Jake spared me a weird look and then he went beside Lea and took her hand.

He was crying.There was no denying that. But he was an actor after all. Who was I to judge whether they were real or they were fake.

"Lea, I... I don't know how to... " He was stammering as I finally saw a smile on Lea's face as she cupped his jawline.

" It's alright Jakey! It was just an accident. You don't need to blame yourself. As for what happened before that, I am sorry I came without notice. I should have let you know. Things like those are common in big cities and big industries, Jake. We will need to grow out of our tiny holes. You are a star. I am so proud of you. "

I failed to wrap my head around what Lea found so amazing to be proud of when clearly he had done something terrible, when suddenly my phone rang.

" Phill, I sent you some pictures. I was at this Cafe in the morning. It's owned by this very close friend of mine. The food is awesome and it's close to your hospital. Let me treat you. We haven't been able to catch up, lately."

I rolled my eyes as I scrolled over the pics that Jessy sent me.

I stopped and had to zoom in to a certain picture.

I could see Jake in a very compromisable position with a woman inside a private cabin which was exactly opposite to where Jessy was.
