Chapter 735: Ending Three_3

Chapter 735: Chapter 735: Ending Three_3 "Grandma, I like all of these, Auntie’s cooking skills are really good," Xiao Shan Yue truly loved the culinary skills of the house’s Auntie, feeling that Auntie’s cooking was great and everything she made tasted delicious.

Moreover, because she had experienced hunger when she was young, Xiao Shan Yue was not picky about food at all. As long as there was something to eat that could fill her stomach, that was enough.

Of course, she would eat more of the delicious things.

As for alcohol, Xiao Shan Yue barely drank, and was not accustomed to spirits or beer, but she would have some red wine or fruit wines and even apple cider vinegar.

"Try this drink," Xia Xiao said, after having two slices of the bean curd, picking up the small wine glass.

Gao Jiaxing also put down his chopsticks and raised his glass to clink with hers. Xiao Shan Yue had never drunk this before and was somewhat curious about how it tasted, seeing how much her grandparents seemed to enjoy it.

Xiao Shan Yue clinked glasses with Gao Jiaxing and Xia Xiao, feeling envious of their relationship inside her heart, thinking how romantic her grandparents were.

However, as soon as the alcohol touched her throat, Xiao Shan Yue’s little face scrunched up, a bundle of confusion.

One word, spicy

Two words, bitter

Three words, slightly sour

Four words, a hint of sweetness

One could say it had a taste of everything: bitter, sweet, sour, and spicy, but once the alcohol reached her stomach, she felt a warm sensation and her whole body seemed to open up and relax.

Xiao Shan Yue’s eyes lit up, "Good liquor."

"Right? But not that tasty," Xia Xiao said with a smile. She had put a lot of thought into brewing this liquor, having specifically researched it with her mother-in-law Zheng Xianghong at the time.

The idea that liquor should have four flavors, brewed with spring water, naturally meant it couldn’t be too tasty.

After all, it’s meant to last for a long time, meant to be savoured for as long as possible, and not like drinking water or soft drinks. If it were too tasty, it would be consumed quickly and wouldn’t last very long.

"This liquor is quite old, just have a couple of sips, don’t drink too much," Xia Xiao said, looking at Xiao Shan Yue’s blushing face, wishing Shitou were there.

Xiao Shan Yue nodded heavily, obediently putting down her glass, acknowledging that, while good, it really did not taste that great.

"Eat some dishes and drink some soup," Gao Jiaxing said after finishing two sips of his own, feeling that a couple of sips of liquor were not nearly satisfying enough, but he also knew this liquor was precious and shouldn’t be guzzled down; it was more interesting to drink slowly. Moreover, he hoped to be able to drink it for a lifetime, wishing to live to a ripe old age with his partner.

After staying with Xia Xiao and Gao Jiaxing for half a month, Xiao Shan Yue returned to the army.

Once Xiao Shan Yue left, the house became even quieter, but Xia Xiao and Gao Jiaxing were not bored.

Each day, they would get up early to stroll in the park, climb hills, water the vegetable garden, weed, nurture flowers, prune branches, read newspapers, watch news on television, chat, take walks, and wander through the markets—thus their days would pass by.

One morning, Xia Xiao also woke up early. As she aged, her sleep became shallower and, sleeping early, she would wake up early as well, usually before six in the morning.

When Xia Xiao woke up, Gao Jiaxing was no longer by her side. After dressing, she went to the courtyard and saw Gao Jiaxing practicing boxing there.

"Come and practice," Gao Jiaxing greeted her as he saw her.

"I’d rather not." She used to follow along and learn some self-defense, but now, at her advanced age, Xia Xiao had lost all interest in it.

"Better you join me for square dancing at night," she replied.

As soon as Xia Xiao said this, Gao Jiaxing responded, "That gets boring after a while, too many people, too noisy, and it disturbs others."

"But that’s the lively atmosphere," Xia Xiao said, who now rarely joined in the square dancing herself. Sometimes, though, she would move along for a bit while taking evening walks with Gao Jiaxing, but she found it less appealing now.
