Wasteland Hideout: Upgrading from the Sewers

Chapter 36: Fate Card — Luxury Card

Chapter 36: Fate Card — Luxury Card

Yu Yuan’s gaze finally fixed on the Resource Recycling Trash Can.

Although he didn’t want to admit it, this option was indeed the best choice for now.

The clothes were stained with grime, but still wearable—at worst he could wash them; nobody would see, nobody cared.

No vegetables? If he was constipated he could drink more water to moisten his bowels, or use survival points to buy wild fruit or wild vegetables and grasses from other players.

Only resources—now that was hard to predict.

What bothered Yu Yuan most was actually the four words: Resource Recycling.

With a target in his mind, Yu Yuan didn’t hesitate any longer.

Choice—Resource Recycling Trash Can

[Resource Recycling Trash Can has been placed in your shelter. Please check it yourself!]

A very ordinary white trash can appeared at Yu Yuan’s feet; the words “Resource Recycling” were printed on both sides of it.After the Fate’s Gift choice was completed, the wooden box of Fate Cards began to shake.

Three seconds later, a long, earth-yellow card with mysterious patterns floated out in front of Yu Yuan.

[This Fate Card — Luxury Card]

‘Pebble-tier’ Luxury Card

[Luxury Card, quality: Pebble-tier. The player must complete one extravagant act unrelated to survival within two days, consuming resources ≥ 50,000 survival points, otherwise the player dies.]

(Kind reminder: remember to be extravagant! Not just to consume. Or you can spend 150,000 survival points to expand your shelter’s area.)

“Extravagant…”

Reading the kind reminder below, Yu Yuan’s heart sank.

Although he would very much like to expand the shelter, he simply couldn’t come up with 150,000 survival points; even if he sold every resource he had, it wouldn’t be enough.

If so, he could only find a way to spend those 50,000 survival points on something unrelated to survival.

150,000 was too much; 50,000 he might still manage, and he already had a rough idea in his head.

Still… Yu Yuan felt a slight sting in his chest.

After all, fifty thousand survival points!

Right now, excluding his firearms, he didn’t even know whether all his other resources added up to fifty thousand survival points. Two days—he might be risking his life.

He went back to the newsstand and flipped through the papers from the last few days.

In yesterday’s and today’s papers, there were four pebble-tier intelligence entries in total.

Besides one article about the typhoon moving away and the weather recovering, the remaining three were Neighborhood News entries.

After discussion, Thug Prison decided to complete a resource transaction with Burning Fortress the day after tomorrow at 1:00 PM in the Black Stone Gorge in the northern wasteland, as a response to retaliation from the Black Shield Police Department.

They dispatched two plunderer squads to transport 20 slaves to swap with Burning Fortress for one truck of fuel, some survival supplies, and explosives.

Danger Level: Low

Due to typhoon and heavy rain, many areas of Green Forest City experienced floods, especially multiple subway tunnels in the eastern city, which were inundated by sudden floodwaters.

The scavenger organization in District 5—the Free Ones—and the scavenger gang in District 9—the Ghost-Head Gang—suffered heavy losses in the floods.

Only the wilderness plunderers hiding in District 10—the Blood-Hand Gang—under the leadership of the Mahada brothers, managed to seize the Green Light supermarket in time.

Only three people went missing and four were injured; they have no plans to leave until those injuries heal.

Black Shield Police Department commander Lao Ke completed an armed suppression mission in the central district and returned to the eastern city this morning, bringing news that at 1:00 PM tomorrow the Thug Prison will conduct a transaction with Burning Fortress.

He ordered Enforcer Carmen to take charge, with Enforcer Soda assisting, to ambush the returning plunderer squad and seize all transaction supplies tomorrow afternoon at the Carlyle underground tunnel in District 9 of the eastern city.

But Enforcer Soda received a clandestine instruction from Commander Loris—to eliminate Carmen.

Yu Yuan fetched a pen and paper and began to sketch and make notes.

The first two news items had been updated yesterday morning; the Black Shield Police Department’s attack on Thug Prison scheduled for tomorrow afternoon appeared this morning. Originally Yu Yuan hadn’t planned to get involved, but now the situation left him no choice.

Erasing the Luxury Card required at least 50,000 survival points; obtaining that amount through normal channels within two days was impossible. His only hope lay with the supplies in the Thug Prison’s transaction.

He opened the virtual map to check the location of the Carlyle underground tunnel in District 9. District 9 lay northeast of District 13 and was already at the far edge of Green Forest City.

The fastest route from the eastern suburbs to the northern suburbs crossed District 9, and Carlyle’s underground tunnel was a section of that route.

On the virtual map he plotted the sewer route from his shelter to District 9 and Carlyle underground tunnel, and Yu Yuan frowned slightly as he looked.

This distance was no small matter!

If he walked there himself, a one-way trip would probably take almost two hours, and he would have to cross District 11 to enter District 9. The thought of possibly encountering that mysteriously roaming giant rat made his head ache.

After specially marking all the relevant notes for tomorrow’s operation on the shelter’s memo, Yu Yuan turned his attention back to the trash can at his feet.

It looked exactly like a typical household 14-liter trash can with a flip lid.

He happened to have accumulated a lot of trash over the past couple days, piled up in the corridor outside the shelter. He’d planned to clean it out today—now it could be put to practical use.

There was a lot of garbage; even if he filled the trash can to the brim, it would only consume half of it.

Yu Yuan was more than satisfied with that; now it was just a matter of seeing what surprise the trash can would bring him tomorrow.

He then entered the shelter and began donning the Enforcer tactical set.

[Enforcer Chest Rig] [Enforcer Tactical Gloves] [Enforcer Tactical Boots] [Enforcer Goggles] — full set equipped.

He loaded spare magazines and grenades for the FN FAL Assault Rifle into the chest rig, and strapped on the kukri, Glock 17, and M500 revolver.

Yu Yuan could clearly feel the weight on his body—he was loaded down.

He looked at Mie Mie and silently activated [Equip].

In the next instant, the Mie Mie that had been lying on the ground vanished, replaced by a surge of strength coursing through Yu Yuan’s entire body. The once-heavy gear suddenly felt incredibly light in his hands.

A look of excitement crossed his face as he picked up the FN FAL and stepped out of the shelter.

He needed to find a way to remove the Luxury Card.
