Chapter 88: Ch 88: Emrys’s Astonishment
Chapter 88: Ch 88: Emrys’s Astonishment
Emrys had a dream, a really long dream.
The last thing he remembered was fighting the red creatures and facing his death. However, when he opened his eyes again, he found himself standing on the surface of a transparent sea.
This sea was vast, truly too vast. As far as the eye could see, only the blue sky above his head and the endless sea beneath his feet were visible.
At first, Emrys thought he was dead, but he soon realized that he was still alive. It is just that he had entered a very strange state where he could clearly feel his physical body and sense everything in the outside world, but he could not control his body.
It was weird, too weird!
He was clearly physically standing on the surface of a vast sea, yet he could sense his physical body standing outside, unable to control it. How could something like this be possible?
He could feel as if he had completely lost control of his body and was confined here to being a mere spectator, watching events unfold from the side.
He never expected this sensation to turn out to be the truth. He saw a foreign soul taking control of his body which again surprised him.
Only then did he think that he might not really be present physically on top of the vast sea. It might just be his soul.
When the foreign soul possessed his body, he could sense the immediate changes his body started undergoing. He could also sense the gradual increase in his physical strength and Soul Cultivation.
To Emrys, time passed very slowly. He started feeling bored. Just when he thought he would die from boredom, something unexpected happened. He suddenly sensed a connection forming between him and a Soul Beast.
But it was strange!
This kind of sensation made him recall the first time he awakened his Soul Mark and felt the existence of Void Phoenix. It was exactly the same, just, slightly different.
Although he could feel this connection forming, he sensed that it was not pure. Deep within his heart, he felt the connection was incomplete, filled with negativity and the aura of darkness.
He tried to make sense of these feelings but realized he could do nothing but wait. He attempted to use his abilities but failed. He tried calling out the Void Phoenix but failed. He even tried cultivating but failed.
In the end, he lay down on the surface of the sea and closed his eyes. Since he could do nothing here, why waste his energy on doing something utterly meaningless?
It was unknown how much time passed.
Maybe a day, or maybe a year!
To Emrys, time felt unreal. He can just gradually feel his own strength and cultivation increasing. With the passage of unreal time, he could feel the connection between him and another Soul Beast becoming firmer and deeper.
Then, there came a time when this connection reached the level of Void Phoenix.
But...
Everything still felt illusory to him.
The connection between him and the new Soul Beast had reached the same level as his bond with the Void Phoenix. However, Emrys could still feel that something essential was missing. He could feel as if there was an intangible element needed to make the Soul Beast truly his, not just superficially.
Before the essential element appeared, an information panel appeared before his eyes.

Ba-dum~
Emrys’s heart started beating faster as his eyes fell on the information panel. He, who was just a mere Silver Soul Master, has somehow ascended several levels in succession, becoming an Intermediate Gold Soul Master.
How can it not be shocking?
It is important to understand that the gap between a Silver Soul Master and a Gold Soul Master is not merely a matter of rank. Between Silver and Gold, there is also the rank of Secret Silver Soul Master. Additionally, there is a unique aspect exclusive to Gold Soul Masters and above, which is the Aura of Brilliance.
Gold Soul Masters are said to awaken an Aura of Brilliance unique to themselves. Each Gold Soul Master’s Aura of Brilliance possesses different effects. Some Auras provide protection, while others enhance defense. Some improve senses and perception, while others boost speed. In short, the Aura of Brilliance of a Gold Soul Master comes with varied effects, each with its own specialty.
"Then... What is my Aura of Brilliance’s effect?"
Emrys was both puzzled and excited. He couldn’t help but want to display his Aura of Brilliance and test its effects. Unfortunately, he couldn’t do that for the time being. He could only wait.
And he did exactly that. He waited.
Finally, Emrys’s attention was drawn to the second Soul Mark, the Lord of the Cursed Abyss.
A question formed in his mind.
Is this Soul Mark the reason why he felt a connection that was incomplete, filled with negativity and the aura of darkness?
But where did this Soul Mark come from?
Emrys was certain that this Soul Mark did not originate from his soul. Since it didn’t come from his soul, could it be that it originated from the foreign soul that had taken possession of his body?
As he pondered this, he remembered the profound changes his body had undergone during the possession. The surge in strength, the increase in his Soul Cultivation, and the dark, unsettling power that had accompanied these transformations. It all pointed back to the foreign soul and its influence on his body.
"Could the foreign soul have implanted this Soul Mark within me?" Emrys wondered. "And if so, the question now becomes more complicated. Why?"
The implications were staggering. If the Lord of the Cursed Abyss truly came from the foreign soul, then its attributes of curse, darkness, and abyss might still be influencing him. He needed to understand this Soul Mark better and determine whether having this Soul Mark is good or bad.
