Chapter 245: Ch 245: Attack of Flying-type Soul Beasts
Chapter 245: Ch 245: Attack of Flying-type Soul Beasts
Easternmost direction... huh?
Leaving the artifact shop, Emrys turned his head and muttered while looking at the sky in the east direction.
While roaming all the streets, he had already come across a place where people could take a fleet to go to several places where teleportation formations were not available.
This time, he wanted to see if there was a fleet that could take him to the Ice Lord Valley.
A fleet is a group of ships sailing together, engaged in the same activity, or under the same ownership.
The rules here were somewhat strange.
Instead of a single ship going somewhere, an entire fleet takes off. There may be some kind of hidden dangers that force an entire fleet to fly instead of a single ship.
Emrys hoped to find a fleet that goes to the Ice Lord Valley. Otherwise, he’ll have to depend on himself and go there by teleporting several times continuously.
Talking about teleportation, Emrys can teleport to a thousand miles in an instant now. As for his Node Shift ability, it works in a radius of ten thousand miles.
However, the distance from Star Lake City to the Ice Lord Valley is perhaps dozens of millions of miles, and he didn’t want to go there by teleporting constantly which would take a toll on his body a little.
Anyway, if there truly is not a fleet, he’ll have no choice but to teleport.
Emrys asked around but was disappointed to learn that there was no fleet heading directly to the Ice Lord Valley. However, he found out about a fleet set to depart in a few hours, with its destination being Black Mountain City, which was said to be located halfway up a massive black mountain.
The Black Mountain City was a hundred thousand miles away from the Ice Lord Valley, and the farthest distance a fleet goes from the Star Lake City in the easternmost direction.
"At the very least, I won’t have to teleport for dozens of millions of miles from the Black Mountain City!"
Emrys went straight to book a ticket to Black Mountain City. After purchasing the ticket, he headed to the ship that was part of the fleet set to take off in a few hours and make its way to Black Mountain City.
Soon, Emrys made his way to the fleet’s dock, where several large ships were preparing to depart. The atmosphere around the dock was bustling with activity. Merchants, travelers, and warriors all hurried about, boarding their ships and making final preparations. The ships in the fleet were massive. They appeared to be made of sturdy materials and powered by advanced technology.
As Emrys approached his assigned ship, he was greeted by the sight of towering masts and glowing sails that were enchanted with powerful soul runes to enhance speed and defense by utilizing Soul Force.
The crew was working tirelessly, checking equipment, securing cargo, and ensuring the passengers’ safety. Emrys glanced around, observing the other travelers. Some were powerful Soul Masters while others seemed to be wandering merchants just like Nikolai. All of them were likely heading to Black Mountain City for trade.
Very soon, Emrys boarded the ship.
Once on board, Emrys found a quiet spot on the deck where he could observe the city one last time. Instead of going inside, he liked to stay on the deck instead. In fact, he was not the only one, hundreds of people were like him.
The deck of a single ship alone was wide enough to accommodate hundreds of people easily.
Very soon, the time for the departure arrived.
HONG~
As the final call for departure sounded loudly, several ships started vibrating and then a fleet slowly began to lift off the ground, rising high into the air. Emrys felt a slight shift in the ship as it ascended, but it was smooth and steady enough to not discomfort people.
Just like that, the journey to Black Mountain City had begun.
Very soon, the fleet left the Star Lake City.
There was no such rule that passengers couldn’t stay on the deck. Emrys was still standing at the edge of the deck, gazing at the vast landscapes passing beneath them. They soared over dense forests that stretched for miles. The thick canopy of trees in the dense forest looked like a green blanket covering the earth.
Occasionally, towering mountains could be seen that were high enough to pierce through the clouds. Below, from time to time, rivers appeared that were snaking through the valleys, glistening like silver threads, and small towns could be spotted in the distance, nestled between the hills.
The air around the ship was crisp and cool, with a slight breeze gently brushing past Emrys.
The ship continued to fly and soon the night came and passed.
The next day, before the Celestial Horizon welcomed noon, the peaceful atmosphere was suddenly broken by loud screeches coming from above.
These screeches were simply too loud and appeared to be piercing right into the ears of all the people. Even powerful Celestial Spirit Soul Masters felt their ears shaken up.
Emrys, on the other hand, didn’t flinch.
Looking up, everyone saw a large flock of flying-type Soul Beasts descending upon them. These creatures had sharp talons, massive wings, and eyes that were glowing with malice. Their numbers were overwhelming, and they were flying in tight formations. They appeared as if they were ready to attack the fleet at any time.
"Everyone, we have to engage the protection system soon so you don’t have to worry. But just in case, go back to your rooms and seats respectively."
An announcement was immediately made on every ship.
Simultaneously, an energy field slowly spread and formed a circular bluish wall around every ship before turning invisible. At the same time, the ship’s crew quickly sprang into action. Some grabbed weapons, while others started shouting orders to brace for the incoming attack.
The passengers, however, were not as the crew. Panic quickly spread among them. People scrambled across the deck, trying to find cover or hide inside the ship. They started running to their corresponding seats and rooms. Fear was clear on their faces as they watched the flying-type Soul Beasts draw closer.
Despite the chaos around him, Emrys remained completely indifferent. His expression was calm and his body did not move an inch. He stood still while his gaze never left the sky as the beasts approached. Unlike the others, he did not feel any fear or urgency. To him, these Soul Beasts were nothing more than a minor annoyance. They were not worthy of his attention.
At most, they were a part of his soon-to-gain strength.
Looking at them, Emrys found that there were hundreds of these huge winged beasts and a majority of them were Celestial Spirit Soul Beasts.
Emrys suspected that these soul beasts were also sent here by those from the Spiritarium.
"Roar!"
"Screech!"
The flying soul beasts roared loudly and seconds later, they began to dive toward the ships. Their sharp talons were ready to tear through the sails and attack the crew.
"Bang!" "Bang!"
Fortunately, the energy field was there to stop them. The energy field easily blocked their attacks. Only ripples appeared on the bluish energy field from time to time.
These energy fields were like powerful barriers of light surrounding the fleet, protecting them from the initial wave of attacks. The beasts collided with the shields again and again while screeching in frustration as they were unable to penetrate through the energy field.
The crew was now already armed with all sorts of weapons, but they stood still. They were ready to attack, but they knew they had to wait. They will attack only when the energy field is damaged and broken by these fierce beasts.
Meanwhile, the ship had already launched its attack system. Laser beams, powerful soul waves, and various kinds of attacks were launched at these flying creatures.
Some of these attacks injured a few beasts while the majority were missed. But these attacks angered those beasts more, and their attacks became fiercer than before.
Despite the defenses of the ships, a few of the beasts managed to shatter the energy field and landed on the deck of a few ships before attacking the crew directly. This was when the crew also attacked and started fighting fiercely.
The ship shook as the fight began. More and more screams filled the air as the people tried to avoid the sharp claws and snapping jaws of these terrifying Soul Beasts.
Amidst this chaos, Emrys stood unbothered by everything. He was watching the battle as if he was bored.
The ship he was on also had its energy field shattered by these beasts.
Emrys could have killed all of them before they could attack, but he didn’t bother to act immediately. He had a feeling that the appearance of these beasts here was no coincidence.
After all, these beasts attacked the fleet as soon as they came. It was as if they were ordered to do so. He was already doubting that these beasts were sent by the same person who initiated the war on the battlefield, but he was not sure.
Anyway, if they were deliberately targeting the fleet, then there has to be something on this fleet that attracted the attention of these beasts or the one behind everything!
