Chapter 209: Ch 209: Terrifying Creature

Chapter 209: Ch 209: Terrifying Creature

Emrys frowned, not understanding why he couldn’t comprehend a single law. He believed his comprehension was quite good and that comprehending a law shouldn’t be this difficult. For some reason, he felt as if something was forcefully stopping him from understanding the laws of the universe.

Emrys is a person who never dwells on a matter for too long. Since he couldn’t understand the Laws of the Universe even after trying for several hours, and always felt that something was restricting him from understanding them, he let it go and stopped trying to comprehend them.

At the same time, he made up his mind to find an answer to why this happened to him. In the end, he shifted his glance somewhere else.

This dark void was vast and infinite. Other than 3,000 lines that represented the Laws of the Universe, several other things appeared one after another.

Emrys looked around and was soon attracted to a statue, so devilish and malevolent that Emrys shuddered uncontrollably. At the same time, he felt a familiar sensation from this statue.

After hesitating for some time, Emrys arrived in front of this statue.

This was not a statue of a human, demon, or abyssal being. It depicted a bizarre creature with hundreds of eyes and dozens of tentacles. The entire form looked utterly strange. Even though the statue was crafted from unknown materials, Emrys can tell that the real creature didn’t have a body made of muscle, bones, or blood. Instead, it was composed of dense, dark fog—the same kind that often surrounded his own body.

Emrys recalled what the Abyssal had mentioned about this fog. It was called the Mist of Abyss.

Aside from the rest of this creature’s body, its eyes and tentacles all seemed to be made of the Mist of Abyss.

While Emrys was staring at this statue, he felt several attributes such as the attribute of death, destruction, slaughter, blood, and more. Among these so many attributes, the ones that attracted Emrys’s attention the most were the attributes of Darkness, Curse, and Abyss.

Darkness, Curse, and Abyss...

Emrys’s eyes suddenly lit up. He thought of something and completely ignored the fact that this was the statue of a bizarre monster. Instead, he completely focused on the statue, concentrating to the extreme, trying to understand its essence.

Not long after he concentrated, he felt like falling from the sky into eternal darkness. There was no land or anything to support him; he kept falling without any sign of stopping. The sensation was disorienting. His heart immediately raced with fear. He felt as if the space below his feet had torn apart, plunging him into an abyss that had no end.

The wind howled in his ears yet there was no wind. It was just the eerie silence of the void. Emrys’s surroundings were pitch black, with not a single star or light to break the monotony of the darkness yet he could still see his own self very clearly.

He tried to steady his breath but the weightless free-fall made him feel like he was tumbling endlessly.

He stretched out his hands trying to grasp onto anything but there was nothing to hold on to. If there was anything, then it was only the emptiness of the void.

Panic began to creep in as he realized he had no control over his descent. He tried controlling his body but was unable to, he tried to fly but was unable to, he tried to teleport, but was unable to. No matter what he tried, he was unable to achieve anything.

His thoughts raced and he wondered if this was some sort of illusion or a test, but it felt all too real.

Emrys was frightened as he looked around and couldn’t help but feel a sense of reality. He tried harming himself, using the Space Blade to injure his own leg, only to end up bleeding.

The blood was real, the pain he felt was real, and his current situation was real as well.

Only then does Emrys understand that something is very wrong. He had just concentrated on understanding the essence of that statue. How did he end up in this terrible predicament?

The falling seemed endless. He kept falling without any sign of stopping for an unknown period. In this void of extreme darkness, space and time seem to hold no meaning. It is impossible to tell how much time has passed.

"Is this my end?" Emrys thought as a chill ran down his spine. He had faced many dangers after awakening his first Soul Mark, but this feeling of complete helplessness was unlike anything he had ever experienced. No matter how much he struggled, there was no ground to stand on and no sky to reach for. If there was anything, then it was just an infinite descent into the unknown.

As he kept falling, the darkness around him began to change all of a sudden. Faint noises started to enter his ears, and these noises seemed to be coming from some distance away. The noise grew louder and louder with each passing second.

This was when a sudden surge of energy burst forth in his surroundings. A small vortex opened below him, pulling Emrys to somewhere unknown.

Slowly, Emrys saw darkness fading. The light appeared before his eyes. Everything appeared blurry at first, but when his eyes cleared up and he could see clearly, he was shocked to witness a horrifying scene. He found himself staring at a landscape drenched in chaos and destruction.

He was standing on a desolate plain, under a sky covered in swirling dark clouds and crackling with ominous energy. The air was filled with an unsettling humming noise that seemed to vibrate through his very bones. Emrys’s breath hitched as he looked closer at the ground beneath his feet. It was littered with the remains of countless creatures. Some were humanoid, some were monstrous, and others had already been deformed to the extent that they defied any recognizable form. Twisted limbs, shattered bones, and unidentifiable parts of unknown creature’s body fragments were strewn across the land. All of them were half-submerged in a thick dark substance that pulsed like a living thing.

At first, Emrys felt this thick dark substance was Mist of Abyss, but then he felt unfamiliarity and shook his head.

No, they were not the Mist of Abyss.

In the distance, the same creature he saw in the statue was standing. It towered above the remains of countless creatures below. It was far larger and more menacing than Emrys could have ever imagined. Its hundreds of eyes blinked in unison, each one gleaming with an eerie light that appeared so devilish that just the sight of them caused Emrys’s soul to shudder.

The creature’s dozes of huge tentacles lashed out like serpents, grasping at the ruined bodies and absorbing the dark fog that seeped from them.

Emrys’s heart pounded in his chest as he realized that this unknown creature wasn’t just feeding on the physical remnants, it was actually devouring the very essence of life, the souls, and energies of the fallen. It was also at this moment Emrys realized that the thick dark substance submerging the remnants of countless creatures was actually waste left behind after the creature devoured everything it needed.

He felt a cold shiver run down his spine as the creature’s eyes suddenly turned towards him. All hundreds of eyes locked onto him.

Those gazes, they frightened Emrys.

Emrys tried to move, to look away, but he found himself frozen. He was rooted to the spot as if the very ground was holding him captive. No matter how hard he tried, he was unable to move. As those hundreds of eyes locked onto him, Emrys felt as if his very soul was being laid bare, as if he was completely vulnerable in front of this monstrous entity.

"Roar!"

This misty creature didn’t have a mouth, but it roared at Emrys so loudly that Emrys was sent flying for miles. At the same time, he spurted out a mouthful of blood and several wounds appeared on his body.

Just one roar and Emrys almost died.

Although he was alive, he was terribly injured.

It was then Emrys noticed dark mist spreading everywhere. He noticed that this dark mist was not only spreading, it was actually swallowing everything in its path.

Raising his head, he saw the giant creature’s head for the first time. Its head was like a wolf that manifested in the sky out of the Mist of Abyss, and then Emrys saw the creature actually swallowing the entire sky, causing the darkness to descend to this world.

Even in this darkness, Emrys could see everything very clearly. Next, he saw the giant creature swallow this entire world in one gulp.

Emrys was also in this world and he was swallowed as well, but for some reason, nothing happened to him. Magically, he found himself floating in the void.

After that, he saw the giant creature going somewhere, and his perspective of view automatically followed the creature. He witnessed the creature bring darkness and destruction to every world along the way before swallowing the entire world.

Time has no meaning in this void, but Emrys felt he had been watching the creature for hundreds or even thousands of years, destroying and swallowing countless worlds.
