Walker Of The Blue Sky

Chapter 208: Ch 208: The Third Trial

Chapter 208: Ch 208: The Third Trial

The barrage of sharp arcs of light dashed toward Emrys’s sea of consciousness, frightening him for a moment.

This was too terrifying.

"Aura of Brilliance!"

Without any hesitation, Emrys activated his Aura of Brilliance and used his Light Manipulation ability to control the light within a five-meter radius.

Layers of light barriers appeared, each with refractive properties capable of diverting the path of any incoming attack. These barriers were stacked in multiple layers, one after another.

When the terrifying arcs of light came crashing in, they were either blocked or forced to change direction.

Bam! Bam! Bam!

The attacks of light arcs were terrifying. Although they were blocked, they still managed to break several layers of light barriers.

In this way, Emrys managed to prevent the attack from reaching his body and entering his Sea of Consciousness. Had he not quickly utilized his Aura of Brilliance in the nick of time, he was certain he would have had to say goodbye to his Soul Cultivation Path. His Soul River would have been overwhelmed, entering a Chaotic State. Even his Sea of Consciousness might have been shattered.

Well, since this is a trial and the divine voice mentioned earlier that death here isn’t real, it might imply that even if his Sea of Consciousness is destroyed in this place, it won’t have any real consequences. However, this is just a possibility. There is no way for Emrys to be certain. That’s why, he has to do everything to save himself from being injured even on this trial ground.

"Phuuu!"

"Now, there is only the last step to take!"

Emrys let out a deep breath and muttered. Before truly stepping on the 200th step, he prepared to face the attacks that might come to destroy him.

Had it not been for the Aura of Brilliance and the ability to manipulate light, Emrys wouldn’t have been able to block the previous attack. That’s why, Emrys was determined to use these abilities as a protection measure again.

He just felt that this was not enough. He has to prepare more.

Thinking for a while, Emrys finally took the 200th step. While doing so, he chose to keep the Aura of Brilliance activated.

Just as his feet touched the 200th Step, the entire Sky Ladder trembled violently. At the same time, countless arcs of light appeared in the sky, each completely covered in destructive energy.

For a moment, Emrys felt his heart pounding in his chest. An intense sense of danger flooded his mind. His instincts screamed at him to move but his body seemed frozen. The air around him buzzed with a terrifying crackling sound and he could feel his skin prickling as if needles were piercing him all over.

Unlike before, the arcs of light didn’t target his Sea of Consciousness all at once. Instead, the first arc of light descended, slashing through the air like a blade of pure destruction.

Bam~

The arc of light collided against a layer of light barrier and shattered it. At the same time, the areas around the destroyed first layer of the light barrier were instantly obliterated into dust.

"This is insane!" Emrys thought, gritting his teeth. "The power here... it’s like someone is deliberately targeting me, trying to test the extent of my strength!"

Emrys couldn’t help but guess this. How could this still be called merely a trial?

But then again, this was indeed a trial. A trial is meant to test the talent and strength of a person.

Just as Emrys took a deep breath, he noticed the arcs of light descending upon him, each separated by a mere second. Moreover, each destructive arc was faster and more precise than the one before.

Emrys realized that relying solely on his Light Manipulation skill would be a foolish choice. The dark mist began to emanate from his body, forming a spherical shape around him. It then quickly solidified. Just like the light barriers, the dark mist also created several layers of this Dark Mist Sphere around Emrys to shield him within.

"Bang!" "Bang!" "Bang!"

BOOM!

Emrys doesn’t know what is happening outside. His sight was completely blocked within the dark mist sphere. However, he can still hear the constant sound of collision and shattering.

After a while, when the sound disappeared completely, Emrys realized his domain of Aura of Brilliance had disappeared completely. Most of the arcs of lights were blocked by Dark Mist Sphere, but almost all of them were shattered. Emrys was left with only the last layer of Dark Mist Sphere.

If even this layer had shattered, then his Sea of Consciousness would have definitely been attacked and maybe destroyed.

It was finally at this moment that Emrys could say that he had successfully climbed the 200th step, meaning he had reached the top of the Sky Ladder. Only now the pressure he felt from Sky Ladder also disappeared.

His mind also suddenly shone brightly, as if a layer of dust had been wiped away. He was more in tune with the sky and earth.

Suddenly, he felt something and turned around.

The space around him had shifted once again. Now, there was a big platform in front of him, and on top of the platform stood a stone monument. There were countless lines and light dots on it, looking just like stars.

╠ Congratulations on passing your second trial, Emrys Frazier. ╣

╠ Now, you can move to the third trial. In front of you is the Billion Dao Monument. Billion Skill Monument is a divine monument where billions of Mysterious Daos are recorded. You are required to comprehend at least one Mysterious Dao in seven days. ╣

The divine voice disappeared after it had given its instructions.

Emrys’s heart skipped a beat.

"I don’t even know what a Mysterious Dao truly is, how can I comprehend one of them in just seven days?"

Emrys was surprised and confused, not knowing how to deal with the current situation.

"The first trial was about combat prowess. I won simply because my strength was stronger than my opponent. I can’t say that I have good combat prowess. The second trial was about testing willpower. My willpower was tempered when I was still in the shattered fragment of the Cosmic Cultivation World. Even so, I barely passed the second trial."

"The third trial is about comprehending a Mysterious Dao. It directly tests a person’s comprehensive ability. Unless one is extremely bright, they can’t comprehend anything. As for me, I’m not confident in my own comprehensive ability. I don’t have any idea what a Mysterious Dao actually is. When I don’t even know about a subject, how can I take the exam?"

Emrys shook his head, feeling helpless. For a moment, he even thought that he might fail this trial.

Combat prowess, willpower, and comprehension ability—these three represented the innate ability of a living being, and apparently, comprehension is more important than the previous two.

"Seven days, huh..."

Whether he can comprehend something or not, he has to give it a try.

Hence, Emrys walked over and sat in front of the huge stone monument. Then he turned his head toward the monument without thinking twice and started to focus. He didn’t even notice when, but he was slowly absorbed into it. He automatically entered a mysterious state that protected him from diverting his attention somewhere else or some outer element from disturbing him.

In this state, he seemed to have appeared in a vast void where there was nothing but darkness. Slowly, light dots appeared and became stars. The stars continued to expand and formed a cluster. Slowly, Emrys saw galaxies appearing one after another that soon transformed into a vast starry universe.

He was completely captivated by the scene he witnessed. But then, he saw different colored lines appearing one after another. These lines carried a mysterious power that could actually affect this universe.

Emrys didn’t even count them but realized that there were actually a total of 3,000 lines, each line representing a different element or substance. He even felt sharpness in some of them, and some gave him a familiar feeling. One of them gave him the sensation of being able to unleash the true might of a blade capable of slashing through the vast starry universe.

These 3000 lines carried a chain of order that formed nature.

These were 3000 laws of the universe.

There was no need for someone to explain these things to Emrys. He automatically understood everything as he witnessed them.

A surge of great joy welled up in Emrys’s soul. He had a feeling that as long as he could comprehend these laws, his strength would skyrocket.

Unfortunately, as he tried to focus, he failed to comprehend them which puzzled him greatly. He can definitely see them and sense them all around him. He also had a feeling that all he needed to do was try and he could comprehend a law. But when he truly tried, he failed. It was as if these laws were not present at all.
