Chapter 176: Ch 176: Eleventh Step Serpent
"Umhmm!"
The instant Emrys appeared inside the cave, a thick vitality assaulted his body, causing him to moan comfortably. But he soon came back to his senses and shook his head.
This was an unknown location and he had to stay alert all the time. Although it was a very comfy sensation, it also made Emrys lose his sense of danger and alertness for a few moments. This realization made Emrys raise his guard. He could not afford to lower his guard here right now.
Taking a deep breath, Emrys took a cautious step forward. His eyes narrowed as he walked deeper into the cave step by step. The air inside was thick with vitality, so much so that it was almost overwhelming in its intensity.
As he moved deeper into the cave, the walls began to close in slightly.
"The passage is narrowing," Emrys muttered.
The light from the entrance grew dimmer, but his senses were sharp and he had seen more than a hundred meters deep inside the cave when he had activated the three-dimensional word earlier.
Although there was no danger within this area, he still stayed cautious and continued to walk deeper, soon crossing the threshold he had seen last.
From now on, an unknown territory was in front of him. Emrys could have looked at this entire cave from the perspective of a God, but he chose to avoid doing so. Every time he activates the three-dimensional world, he has to use the Node Shift ability. There was a limit to how many times he could use this ability.
Today, he had already used up two out of five usages. It is better to save some usage until the critical moment.
As he walked deeper, the vitality in the air became even thicker and denser. Emrys could also feel the energy around him which was like a pulsing heartbeat.
The floor of the cave was uneven, and as he walked, Emrys noticed strange, glowing plants clinging to the walls. They emitted a soft, greenish light, providing just enough illumination to see the nearby surroundings.
Emrys curiously leaned closer to inspect one of the plants when he realized that this plant wasn’t something he had seen before, neither in this world nor in his world. The plant seemed to draw energy from the cave itself, thriving in this isolated environment.
As Emrys leaned closer to the plant. he suddenly felt a tremor beneath his feet. He stopped, his body tensing as the ground shook slightly.
"It isn’t a natural movement; something seems to be triggering the tremor," Emrys muttered as he observed the nearby areas carefully. But whatever it was, it moved too quickly for him to pinpoint.
The ground produced tremor once again and before he could react, the ground erupted in front of him.
"Hiss!"
A massive, serpent-like creature shot out from the ground below. This creature’s scales were shimmering with an eerie, fiery glow. The creature’s eyes locked onto Emrys, and he could feel the heat radiating from its body.
The serpent didn’t let Emrys observe its appearance for long. It opened its jaws wide and unleashed a deafening roar, revealing rows of razor-sharp fangs as it lunged toward him with terrifying speed.
Emrys didn’t hesitate. With a swift motion, he dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding the creature’s snapping jaws.
The serpent was fast, much faster than he had anticipated. Emrys knew that he needed to act quickly. Channeling his energy, he hurriedly created a dark mist barrier around him
At the same time, the serpent lunged at him again, but this time, Emrys was ready. He leaped into the air. The serpent’s head slammed into the ground where he had stood moments before, sending shards of rock flying in all directions. A few rocks also struck Emrys but were unable to touch his body due to the presence of Dark Mist Barrier.
Emrys was not the one to sit back and let the serpent attack him. Raising his hand, he took out a spear. This was the last weapon in his hand and this weapon belonged to Han Lin whom he killed with Cursed Breath.
Bang!
While in the air, he thrust the spear at the serpent which collided against its scales.
"Hiss!"
The creature roared in pain, its body convulsing as the spear managed to pierce through the gap between its scales a little bit. But it wasn’t enough to bring the serpent down.
As the serpent roared in pain, Emrys noticed something. The fiery glow of its scales was concentrated around a small area just below its head. It was a faint pulsing, almost like a heartbeat.
"What is that?"
Emrys found it very strange. He was unaware of what that small area below the head of this serpent was, but his gut feeling was telling him to attack the serpent there.
Without wasting time, Alex rushed towards the serpent once again.
"Roar!"
Perhaps, due to Emrys’s earlier retaliation, the serpent was angered. It was the first time it got injured and suffered pain. That feeling was not good at all. It didn’t want to experience something like that again, so immediately thrust its tail at Emrys.
The force behind its thrust was massive.
Having no choice, Emrys retreated a few steps in order to avoid the incoming attack.
Bang!
Once again, the serpent’s attack landed on the ground where Emrys was just a second ago, destroying the ground and sending pieces of rocks and soil everywhere.
Emrys just could not get close to the serpent at all.
Emrys took a deep breath and looked at the serpent again, only to notice the light wound he made on its massive body had been healed for some reason.
"Could it be that it has recovery ability?" Emrys muttered. Since he was not sure, he chose to ignore this matter and started to think about how he should deal with this serpent.
This serpent was an Eleventh Step Beast and a very powerful one even amongst Eleventh Step creatures. Obviously, Emrys has to put some effort if he wants to kill this beast.
"I might become an Eleventh Step Warrior after killing this beast!"
Emrys was already at the peak of the Tenth Step, and was sure to easily kill this beast as well just like how he dealt with the Scaled Lungfish that was also a Step higher than him.
