Chapter 147: Ch 147: Cursed Breath
Chapter 147: Ch 147: Cursed Breath
Emrys appeared in front of the cave and looked at the footmarks in the snow.
"They are inside!" he muttered to himself.
An evil grin spread across Emrys’s face as the dark mist began to rise from his body, spreading carelessly around him. In a short five minutes, the dark mist had grown denser and covered an area of at least a hundred meters, completely swallowing the surroundings. Within this range, not a speck of light could be seen.
Emrys could have easily killed Zhu Yan, Hao Lin, and Hao Ying if he wanted to. But he wanted them to pay the price for trying to poison him and Xu Ling. Killing them directly would only grant them an easy death, and he wanted them to suffer.
He released a large amount of dark mist from the Dark River. The Dark River was different from the Soul River. Although the Dark River appeared after the awakening of Emrys’s Second Soul Mark called the Lord of the Cursed Abyss, it was not a Soul River. The Soul River was filled with Soul Force, while the Dark River was filled with Dark Mist.
The Lord of the Cursed Abyss is a dark-type Soul Mark, completely different from elemental-type, space-type, battle-type, and other types of Soul Marks. However, it doesn’t mean a second ’river’ is needed to support a second Soul Mark.
No, any number of soul marks could be supported by a single Soul River.
Yes, twin Soul Marks are rare, but it doesn’t mean they don’t exist. In fact, Soul Masters with triple Soul Marks have also appeared in the history of Infinite Soul Star.
Nevertheless, without a doubt, all of them only had one river in their Sea of Consciousness, the Soul River.
Emrys is different. He has two rivers in his Sea of Consciousness. However, the appearance of the second river, the Dark River, is primarily due to the invasion of a foreign soul. The foreign soul could not access Emrys’s Soul Mark or Soul River. Without a Soul River, even if someone manages to awaken a Soul Mark, it will disappear not long after the awakening.
The foreign soul who took over Emrys’s body knew this fact very well. Hence, when he awakened his own Soul Mark, his darkness resulted in the manifestation of the Dark River.
The Dark River is filled with Dark Mist, and the Dark Mist has every attribute that the foreign soul has: Darkness, Curse, and Abyss. The Lord of the Cursed Abyss also has these three attributes.
The second Soul Mark, the Lord of the Cursed Abyss, provided Emrys with one Origin Skill called the Cursed Breath. Emrys had never used this skill and didn’t know its effect. This was the first time he executed this technique.
Be it Node Shift, Spatial Blade, or Cursed Breath, no matter how powerful a skill is, as long as they are Origin Skills awakened from a Soul Mark, a Soul Master doesn’t need to consume their Soul Force to execute them. They need attributed energy.
For example, if Emrys wants to execute Spatial Blade, he needs to manipulate Space Energy to do the job. Nonetheless, due to not having enough space energy within his body, he has been unable to use this Origin Skill.
Node Shift was slightly different. Yes, it also needs Space Energy, but the energy this skill requires is an extremely small amount, so small that it was always present inside Emrys’s body from the moment he awakened his first Soul Mark, the Walker of the Blue Sky.
To be honest, this ability is far more important and difficult to execute than Spatial Blade. Logically speaking, it should have consumed an extremely large amount of Space Energy. However, that is not the case for some reason.
Moreover, Emrys never actually tried to think about it.
Anyway, when Emrys used the skill, Cursed Breath, he didn’t consume any Soul Force. Instead, a large amount of Cursed Energy was used. The Dark Mist that was released from his body earlier was actually Cursed Energy.
Before this, whenever Emrys used Dark Mist, it always had the attribute of Darkness.
This is a very unique feature of the Dark River. He can actually sort out a single-attributed energy from the Dark Mist and use it for his attacks.
Other than this, the Dark Mist also had the ability to create fear and confusion in those it touched. Emrys intended to use this to his advantage.
Cursed Breath!
This was the first time Emrys had used this attack. As the mist spread inside the cave, it would soon touch Zhu Yan, Hao Lin, and Hao Ying. He was curious about its effect so he entered the cave. The dark mist was swirling around him like a cloak. He moved silently, his steps barely making a sound on the cold, hard ground.
As he ventured deeper into the cave, he could hear the faint sounds of voices ahead. Zhu Yan and his companions were discussing something, unaware of the dark mist creeping towards them.
Within moments, the mist reached them. Zhu Yan was the first to notice, his eyes widening in fear.
"What’s this?" He exclaimed, backing away from the encroaching darkness.
Hao Lin and Hao Ying turned to look, their faces paling as they realized they were surrounded.
Panic set in as the dark mist began to affect them. Their minds were clouded with fear and confusion, making it hard for them to think clearly or coordinate their actions. Emrys watched from the shadows, his grin widening as he saw their fear.
Zhu Yan, Hao Lin, and Hao Ying tried to fight back, but the cursed dark mist had already affected their body, cursing them, and weakening them. Their movements immediately became sluggish due to the cursed breath. Their attacks also became ineffective.
Surprisingly, Zhu Yan was the first to fall, his body collapsing under the weight of Emrys’s Cursed Breath. Hao Lin followed after him the next second, unable to defend himself against the dark mist. Hao Ying was the last to fall, his screams echoing through the cave before he was silenced.
Emrys was stunned.
Did they truly die so easily?
Is it that easy to kill using Cursed Breath?
