Chapter 106: Ch 106: A Dire Situation
Emrys looked at the other him who was suspended in the void right in front of him.
Yes, this place was more like a void than a place with an atmosphere.
The other Emrys’s body was translucent, shimmering faintly with an ethereal glow. It was as if he was looking at a ghostly reflection of himself, a spectral duplicate that seemed to pulse with otherworldly energy. The void around them was vast and endless, more like a dark expanse with no discernible features or boundaries.
Emrys could feel a deep connection between himself and his translucent form.
Emrys: "???"
He could not understand how he appeared at this place or why he was feeling a deep connection between himself and the translucent Emrys.
There has to be a reason!
Suddenly, Emrys noticed something unsettling. A frown appeared on his face as he shifted to the side, changing his angle to observe his translucent form. He was shocked to see streams of blue energy flowing out of his body.
Following the streams of blue energy, he soon located a giant dark sphere. To his surprise, he noticed something familiar. Blood-red patterns marked the surface of this giant dark sphere, exactly like the ones he had seen on the blood-red chain that had once pierced his body when he was standing on the surface of a tranquil sea.
Dark streams of energy flowed out of the giant dark sphere, connecting to the blue streams of energy. This connection formed an indirect link between the giant dark sphere and his translucent form.
Emrys could tell that this connection could be crucial. Moreover, the dark sphere and its sinister patterns also seemed to hint at something deeper and more dangerous.
For some reason, he felt a growing sense of urgency. Also, his instincts told him that he had to understand the meaning of this connection and the significance of the dark sphere.
He slowly started to move closer. As he moved closer to the giant dark sphere, he could feel its ominous presence more intensely. The blood-red patterns pulsated with a malevolent energy. Each throb of patterns’ pulse was cold enough to send a shiver down his spine. Moreover, his translucent form appeared to be reacting to the dark sphere’s influence, flickering and shimmering more intensely.
As he got closer, he suddenly felt a pull from the dark sphere. It was as if the dark sphere wanted to pull him inside.
"Just what is this thing?"
Emrys muttered with concern and fear. It is said that the fear of the unknown is most devastating, and this seems to be true.
The closer Emrys got to the dark sphere, the stronger he felt a pull, as if the sphere was trying to draw him in. The sensation was both compelling and terrifying.
Almost exactly at this time, Emrys felt a strange connection with this dark sphere as well. It was as if the dark sphere also represented a part of himself, a part that he had yet to confront. And this part seemed to be a deep abyss filled with darkness.
While Emrys was observing the sphere, he did not even notice when he got extremely close to the dark sphere. He appeared to be hypnotized or something similar.
Fortunately, he suddenly felt a restriction around his body that woke him up.
At first, Emrys was confused but when he looked down, he saw blue streams of energy wrapping around his body tightly, not letting him move any step ahead.
Emrys was terrified for a moment. He could not even imagine the consequences had the blue streams of energy not stopped him from moving ahead anymore.
He looked at the dark sphere with fear in his eyes. He understood that this thing was very dangerous and he should stay away from it as far as possible.
Then Emrys turned back, followed the blue streams of energy, and saw that it was coming from his translucent form. In other words, his translucent form saved him from encountering something horrible.
He looked at the translucent him with gratitude in his eyes.
Suddenly, memories flashed before his eyes. These memories appeared to be foreign but reminded him of what he had forgotten. The memory made him witness the moment he had been pierced by the blood-red chain. He felt the pain, the fear, and the overwhelming power that had surged through him at that time.
For a moment, he felt that everything was connected. He also understood that this dark sphere was a manifestation of that traumatic event. It was a reservoir of dark energy that had become intertwined with his own soul.
How?
Emrys remembered everything.
It turned out that when the blood chain pierced into his body, it had been on the verge of fusing with his soul. If that fusion had occurred, the consequences could have been dire. His consciousness might have been devoured by negative thoughts, or his soul could have been replaced entirely, giving rise to a new, darker soul possessing his memories, soul force, body, and essence.
Emrys was extremely fortunate that the Multicolored Orb, hidden deep within his soul, had suddenly reacted. The orb’s tremble sent a powerful shockwave through his soul, almost shredding it to pieces along with the foreign soul power that was contaminating it. This reaction from the orb prevented the catastrophic fusion and saved him from a fate worse than death.
The next moment, Emrys felt an overwhelming power coming out from the Multicolored Pearl. This power was unlike any he had seen or encountered before. Even Elysia’s frightening momentum was nothing in front of this power.
Emrys was unaware how, but the dark soul power born from the runic blood chain transformed into a dark sphere with runic patterns on its surface. Moreover, a bond was established between his soul and the dark sphere.
How?
It was through the connection of blue streams of energy and the dark streams of energy.
These memories brought light to a part of the puzzle and forgotten pieces that answered Emrys’s several questions.
Emrys took a deep breath, steadying himself. Now, he knew he had to face this darkness, to understand it, and perhaps even to control it.
However, now was not the time.
Taking a deep breath, Emrys focused on the dark sphere once more. But this time, he did not try to get closer. Instead, he intended to look at it from afar.
Shockingly, although he does not want to get closer to the dark sphere, the same is not true for the other party.
Emrys suddenly felt the void around him beginning to shift and change. He felt that the dark expanse around him had started to become more dynamic, more alive. At the same time, he sensed a special energy flowing through him, through his translucent form, and into the dark sphere. It was like a cycle, a continuous flow of power that connected all parts of his existence.
However, it was also at this time that the void suddenly shook again. An ocean of deathly energy invaded this place, bringing along an endurable pain that could not be explained with logic alone.
There has to be a reason behind the invasion of this deathly energy.
But the appearance of this deathly energy also became the reason to calm down what was happening earlier.
Emrys also felt his vision blurring at this moment.
.....
Emrys opened his eyes and found himself submerged in a place of utter darkness, surrounded by a deathly aura that invaded his body. Panic set in as he suddenly recalled something and turned to see Mu Bailing tightly holding his hand.
To his horror, she had lost consciousness and a majority portion of her life force. Wrinkles marred her once smooth skin, and her hair had turned stark white. She looked more like an old lady now than the beautiful young woman she had been before.
It was a sight no woman would ever want to see.
Fortunately, Mu Bailing was unconscious.
He looked at his own body, but his condition was different from Mu Bailing.
Yes, he was also affected by the deathly aura.
Though he was also affected by the deathly aura, Emrys was not as impacted as much as Mu Bailing. Something within his body seemed to resonate with the deathly aura that significantly diminished its effects. This synchronicity allowed his body to remain intact and his mind clear.
"Arghhh!"
Emrys suddenly screamed in pain, but instead of a sound, dark bubbles rose around him. A realization struck his mind. He could tell that he was submerged in a vast expanse of dark liquid. Moreover, this was no ordinary liquid; it was saturated with deathly energy.
Emrys screamed in pain only because the heavy injuries his body had suffered earlier had reacted. Due to the dark liquid, he felt as if countless worms were squirming in his wounds, slowly biting his flesh, drinking his blood, and eating his bones.
Struggling to stay conscious, Emrys scanned his surroundings. He desperately searched for a way out. He knew he had to act quickly to save both himself and Mu Bailing. The situation was dire, and he had to get out of there as soon as possible.
