Chapter 140 -: 139 Killing the protagonist.[4]
"Bam!"
Julius’s war hammer slammed into the ground right where the Love Guardian had been standing a split second ago.
The stone floor exploded upward like someone had set off a bomb.
Cracks shot across the wall like angry lightning, and the whole area shook so hard it felt like the tenth floor might collapse any second.
"Hamph!" Julius snorted in annoyance.
He flicked his wrist, and the heavy hammer vanished.
In its place, a brutal-looking mace appeared in his other hand.
On the other side, the Love Guardian was busy backpedaling like a scared crab while Rosalina kept swinging her greatsword at him non-stop.
Sparks flew every time their blades met.
This oversized pimp was actually pretty strong, somewhere around the mid stage of the Conversion stage of soul ascension.
Julius and Rosalina were only at the early stage.
Normally that small gap wouldn’t matter much.
With their full power and signature spells, they could easily beat someone at the peak of Conversion.
But they couldn’t use those big moves here.
If they did, Crypian and Alia would recognize them right away. That was the last thing they needed.
And as for their eyes, Julius could still use his All-Seeing Eyes without getting caught, but Rosalina couldn’t risk using her Rose Petal Eyes.
Not yet. Their eyes were only at the first stage anyway, so they weren’t that strong right now.
Sure, Rosalina had used hers before to create an illusion for Julius, but even normal spells could do something similar.
The real power of those eyes would only show up once they reached the second stage.
Then... things would get interesting.
Maybe even strong enough to give them a fighting chance against an early Domain Manifestation caster of soul ascension.
Right now though, Rosalina was doing just fine without fancy eyes.
She kept pressuring the Love Guardian, forcing him to keep moving backward.
Julius stood about twenty steps away.
He grinned under his mask, gripped the mace tightly, and swung it hard toward the Love Guardian.
The round head of the mace suddenly shot out on a thick, glowing chain.
It stretched through the air like a striking snake and wrapped straight around the Love Guardian’s helmeted head with a loud CLANG!
At the exact same moment, Rosalina leaped forward and brought her greatsword down in a powerful overhead slash.
Two deadly attacks coming from different directions at once. Perfect teamwork.
But the Love Guardian wasn’t completely helpless.
He raised his free hand and muttered quickly, "Supreme Grade Treasure Summon!"
A bright blue circle spun into existence in front of him.
It grew bigger and bigger until it turned into a large glowing ring.
A pitch-black space appeared in the middle of the ring, pulsing like it was hungry.
"Space Ring!" the Love Guardian shouted proudly.
The ring hummed loudly and placed itself right in the path of Rosalina’s greatsword.
"Whoosh!"
The giant sword got sucked straight into the black hole-like space with a loud vacuum sound.
One second Rosalina was holding her heavy weapon, the next second her hands were completely empty.
Her eyes went wide behind her mask. "What?!"
She stared at her empty palms like someone had just stolen her favorite toy.
"Move!!" Julius roared.
His warning snapped her out of her shock.
The Love Guardian had already swung his massive sword straight at her head.
But before the blade could connect, Julius’s chained mace smashed into the side of the Love Guardian’s helmet with a deafening crack.
The big armored idiot stumbled sideways, completely losing his balance.
Rosalina quickly backflipped away to safety.
While she was still in the air, a glowing circle appeared beside her.
She reached into it and pulled out a long, sleek bow.
She landed smoothly, planted her feet, and pulled the bowstring back with all her strength.
"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"
A storm of sturdy, powerful arrows shot toward the Love Guardian like angry hornets.
Each arrow flew with incredible speed and force, whistling through the air one after another.
The Love Guardian was still trying to regain his footing after that mace hit to the head.
He looked ridiculous, helmet dented, shield flickering, and now getting peppered by arrows from Rosalina while Julius’s chained mace was still wrapped around his head like a ridiculous metal leash.
From the back, Crypian and Alia were still hugging each other tightly, watching the fight with sparkling eyes.
"See, my love?" Crypian whispered dramatically.
"Even in danger, our pure love protects us through this brave guardian!"
Alia nodded with tears in her eyes. "Yes! True love will always win!"
Julius and Rosalina both felt their stomachs turn at the same time.
Rosalina kept firing arrows without stopping.
"If I hear one more word about ’pure love’ from these three, I’m going to puke inside my mask," she growled.
Julius yanked hard on the chain of his mace, pulling the Love Guardian off balance again.
"Same. I wish I could turn their voices on mute."
The Love Guardian waved his hand in a panic.
The blue Space Ring appeared in front of him again.
Right away, it started pulling with strong suction force. Air currents swirled around it like a mini tornado.
"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"
Rosalina’s arrows flew straight into the ring and disappeared one after another.
But she didn’t stop.
She kept pulling the string and firing as fast as she could.
Julius held the chain tight, keeping the Love Guardian stuck in one spot like a dog on a leash.
"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"
The arrows came so fast they looked like modern bullets.
Julius could barely see them with his eyes. He blinked in surprise.
"Damn... my babe is really something," he muttered under his mask, a proud smile forming on his face.
To be honest, it wasn’t a big shock.
Rosalina had trained with every kind of weapon since she was a little girl.
She mostly used a sword, but she could handle anything perfectly and with perfect control.
Unlike Julius, who sometimes swung his weapons like a wild animal, Rosalina made every strike look clean and precise.
Julius yanked the chain hard.
The Love Guardian had stabbed his big sword into the ground to stay steady and was trying his best to dodge the arrows, but he looked ridiculous doing it.
With one strong pull, the chain snapped back toward Julius. The round head of the mace flew back and landed neatly in his hand.
Julius didn’t waste a second.
He moved forward, but this time his target wasn’t the Love Guardian.
"Let’s see what saves you this time!!!" he growled. Bloodlust flashed in his eyes.
Rosalina noticed what he was doing and smiled under her mask.
She fired even more arrows, pushing the Space Ring to its limit.
Sparks started flying out of the glowing blue ring like a broken machine.
She kept shooting without stopping.
With the last powerful arrow, the Space Ring began to crack.
Small sparks danced across its surface, then bigger ones.
The ring started breaking apart like an old electronic gadget short-circuiting, pieces of blue light flickering and popping until the whole thing shattered with a loud crack!
Even after the ring broke, Rosalina didn’t stop.
She quickly changed her aim and sent a fresh storm of arrows flying straight toward Crypian and Alia.
The Love Guardian’s face changed instantly behind his helmet.
"You cowardly evil fiends!!!!" he roared. "Fight me fair and square!"
He abandoned his position and rushed toward Crypian and Alia to protect them, moving as fast as his heavy armor would let him.
Julius stepped right in his path, blocking him with a cold laugh.
"Calling us evil and expecting chivalry?" Julius said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Don’t you think that’s a little hypocritical, Mr. Pure Love?"
Before the Love Guardian could answer, Julius swung his mace with full power.
"Boom!!!"
The heavy mace smashed straight into the Love Guardian’s large chest plate.
The impact sounded like a cannon going off.
The big armored man flew backward through the air like a rag doll, arms and legs flailing wildly.
He crashed hard into the broken stone floor, sliding several meters before stopping in a cloud of dust.
From the back, Crypian and Alia gasped loudly, still holding each other tightly.
"Darling, are you okay?!" Alia cried out.
"Our guardian... he’s fighting so bravely for our love!" Crypian added with dramatic tears in his eyes.
Julius rolled his eyes so hard it was a miracle they didn’t fall out of his head.
Rosalina lowered her bow for a second and muttered, "If these two say the word ’love’ one more time, I’m going to throw up. Seriously."
Julius laughed under his mask and spun the mace in his hand.
"Same here. Let’s finish this clown show before I actually puke inside my armor."
The Love Guardian slowly pushed himself up from the ground, breathing heavily.
His chest plate now had a huge dent shaped exactly like Julius’s mace.
He looked angry, embarrassed, and a little dizzy all at once.
