Chapter 573: The Person Behind the Scenes
Chapter 573: The Person Behind the Scenes
Hearing Lin Kuang’s words, the dozen or so men exchanged glances. Finally, one of them stepped forward, stood respectfully before Lin Kuang, and said reverently, "I am willing to submit."
Lin Kuang nodded in satisfaction. "Good. And the rest of you?"
As he spoke, his gaze swept over the others. People are like that; without a leader, no one wants to be the first to act. However, once one person takes a stand, the rest will inevitably follow. Just like now, the remaining men quickly declared their allegiance. In an instant, all of He Dong’s bodyguards had chosen to submit to Lin Kuang.
It was a good thing He Dong was already dead. Otherwise, seeing this would have probably killed him from pure rage.
"Very good. You’ve made the right choice. Truly," Lin Kuang said with a smile. "Otherwise, you’d all be corpses right now."
None of them doubted his words. They had witnessed his power; for someone with his strength, killing them would be effortless.
"He Dong and He Qiang are dead. Tell me, who is the second-in-command of the San Ye Sect? I need to find him," Lin Kuang asked calmly, looking at the men before him.
"Th-that would be Luo Wenjun, but he’s the third-in-command of the San Ye Sect," one of them quickly spoke up. "Besides, he wasn’t on good terms with He Dong and He Qiang. It should be easy to win him over."
Lin Kuang chuckled and nodded. "Good. Take me to him. I’d like to have a talk."
"Right away. Please follow me," the man said, turning to lead the way.
Lin Kuang followed with a smile, the dozen other men trailing closely behind him as they headed for the exit.
When the two guards outside the door saw Lin Kuang, the supposed captive, walk out completely unscathed, they stared in stunned confusion.
"Hey, what’s going on?" one of the guards asked.
Lin Kuang glanced at him and said calmly, "Not much. I killed He Dong. I’m the new boss of the San Ye Sect now."
The guard was stunned, refusing to believe what he’d just heard. "Kid, stop messing with me!"
"Do I look like I’m joking?" Lin Kuang asked with a smile.
The guard froze. He’s right... Why would he need to joke about this?
The thought that Boss He Dong had truly been killed spurred him into action. The guard reached into his jacket, pulled out a gun, and aimed it at Lin Kuang. "You killed the boss, so you can die too!" he snarled, about to pull the trigger.
But at that exact moment, one of the bodyguards behind Lin Kuang opened fire, shooting both guards dead.
Lin Kuang glanced back and smiled at the bodyguards. They were undoubtedly proving their loyalty, a gesture he was happy to accept.
"Alright, let’s go," Lin Kuang said again.
Just then, dozens of San Ye Sect members swarmed out from deeper within the underground facility. Every one of them was armed, and in an instant, they had Lin Kuang and his new followers surrounded. Leading the pack was none other than Luo Wenjun, the sect’s third-in-command.
"Brother Luo, Mr. Lin wishes to see you," one of the bodyguards behind Lin Kuang called out, clearly recognizing him.
Luo Wenjun frowned. He had just returned and knew nothing of what had happened. He didn’t recognize the unfamiliar man before him, which made the request to see him even more baffling.
"You’re looking for me?" Luo Wenjun asked, studying Lin Kuang with a perplexed gaze. "What for?"
Lin Kuang offered a slight smile. "Of course I have business with you. But this probably isn’t the best place to talk. How about we find another room?"
Luo Wenjun’s frown deepened. "Fine. I’ll go with you."
With that, he turned and led Lin Kuang to his office.
"Have a seat," Luo Wenjun said, his brow still furrowed. "What do you want with me?"
"Nothing much," Lin Kuang stated calmly, looking at him. "I’ve killed He Dong and He Qiang. I’m taking over the San Ye Sect. You can either submit to me or choose death."
Luo Wenjun’s expression changed drastically at his words, a murderous glint flashing in his eyes.
"You... you really killed them?!" Luo Wenjun shot to his feet, his voice trembling with a strange excitement.
"That’s right," Lin Kuang replied with a calm smile, remaining seated. "I finished them off less than two hours ago."
Luo Wenjun’s expression shifted again as he stared at Lin Kuang. He could tell this man wasn’t lying. To be so composed after committing murder proved that Lin Kuang was no ordinary person.
"What can you offer me?" Luo Wenjun asked, his expression turning serious.
"You’ll be in charge of the San Ye Sect’s daily operations. I’ll only step in for major issues. Also, no drug trafficking. There may be times I need your help, and you’ll do as I ask. Otherwise, I won’t interfere with you. I won’t even take a single penny from the sect’s businesses. That’s a pretty good deal, don’t you think?" Lin Kuang finished with a smile.
Luo Wenjun stared at Lin Kuang in disbelief. "Are you serious? You’d give me that much authority?"
"Why not? What use do you think the San Ye Sect is to me?" Lin Kuang said calmly, his voice laced with a pride that was uniquely his.
Luo Wenjun fell into deep thought. He wasn’t a fool—how could he pass up such an incredible opportunity? He had even considered getting rid of He Dong and He Qiang himself, but he never dared to act.
Luo Wenjun knew perfectly well that the He brothers were backed by one of the legendary Ancient Martial Arts families. To put it bluntly, the San Ye Sect was merely a secular enterprise for that family, and He Dong and He Qiang were nothing more than puppets.
"Honestly, your offer is incredibly tempting," Luo Wenjun said earnestly, "but I don’t dare accept."
Lin Kuang was taken aback. "You don’t dare? What do you mean?"
He could clearly see that Luo Wenjun was an ambitious man. He felt his offer was more than generous, so this hesitation was puzzling.
"Mr. Lin, you probably aren’t aware of the full picture," Luo Wenjun explained. "The San Ye Sect never really belonged to the He brothers. To be frank, they were just employees. The real power behind the sect, the true boss, is someone from the rumored Ancient Martial Arts families!"
Hearing this, Lin Kuang’s expression flickered. "The Ancient Martial Arts families? Which one?"
