Chapter 441 441: Shadow Guard's Surprise Attack
Chapter 441 441: Shadow Guard's Surprise Attack
"Uh, what did I do? I just subdued you, that's all. I didn't do anything else, did I?" Lin Kuang said, a little frustrated.
Yao Wenwen was very strong, and the battle had drained quite a bit of Lin Kuang's energy. Fortunately, while she was powerful, her combat experience was far inferior to Yao Zhao's. That was the only reason Lin Kuang's victory had seemed relatively easy. If Yao Wenwen possessed combat experience on par with Yao Zhao, winning wouldn't have been so simple. At the very least, it would have required a bitter struggle.
"Jerk, your arm is pressing on my chest!" Yao Wenwen snapped, her charming face flushing slightly.
"Oh, is that so? Didn't you say that if I won, I could do whatever I wanted with you? This is nothing. I was just wondering where we should rest tonight. How about you suggest a place?" Lifting Yao Wenwen's chin slightly, Lin Kuang asked with a grin.
Hearing this, Yao Wenwen's pretty face instantly turned crimson. She had only said those words lightly before, completely confident of her victory and never imagining she would lose. Now that she had, it seemed her declaration might actually come true.
At this thought, her beautiful eyes filled with a sense of grievance. I've never done anything with a man before... Am I really going to lose my virtue here today?
Seeing Yao Wenwen's aggrieved expression, Lin Kuang couldn't help but crack a slight smile. "Relax, I was only teasing you." With that, he gently helped her to her feet.
However, just as he was helping Yao Wenwen up, an indescribable sense of mortal danger surged through his heart—a premonition of imminent death! At that moment, a single thought dominated his mind: Flee! Without a second's hesitation, he swept Yao Wenwen into his arms and executed the Willow Catkin Technique. His body flashed like lightning, vanishing from the spot in an instant.
But even with his swift reaction, he was still wounded. His lower back had been pierced. Although the wound was less than an inch deep and hadn't struck any vital organs, blood still gushed from it freely. The assassin had apparently not expected Lin Kuang to escape his guaranteed kill-strike.
Lin Kuang set Yao Wenwen down and pressed several points on his back around the wound with his fingers. The bleeding stopped instantly.
Once that was done, Lin Kuang turned his gaze to the spot he had just occupied. A figure now stood there, shrouded in a black robe that completely obscured his face. Only a pair of cold, shimmering eyes were visible.
"Who are you?" Lin Kuang asked, his tone frosty as he stared at the person in black.
"Shadow Guard," the figure replied. His voice was cold and devoid of human emotion, like that of an icy machine.
"Shadow Guard?" Lin Kuang repeated, puzzled.
"The Shadow Guard of the Fan Family," Yao Wenwen, who was standing beside Lin Kuang, spoke up. "It's said the Fan Family's Shadow Guards are a group of death warriors, loyal only to the Family Head, Fan Wudao. Every single one of them is powerful, but their exact numbers and capabilities are unknown."
Yao Wenwen's expression was grim. She was facing a Shadow Guard. Even though she didn't know the full extent of their power, she knew they had to be incredibly strong. After all, they were the elite masters who protected the Fan Family Head!
Lin Kuang nodded. "So you're one of the Family Head's personal guards. It seems your master can't sit still any longer," he said coolly, looking at the Shadow Guard.
The Shadow Guard said nothing. He simply lifted his longsword, its tip aimed directly between Lin Kuang's eyebrows.
"You are strong, but you must die." As he spoke, the Shadow Guard's figure vanished in an instant, as if melting into the air, creating an incredibly eerie sensation.
Seeing this, Lin Kuang's expression grew grave. He drew Nameless from his waist and pushed his powerful Perception to its absolute limit, sensing every minute movement in his surroundings.
Yao Wenwen remained silent, likewise trying to perceive the Shadow Guard's movements.
Just then, Lin Kuang spun around and slashed behind him, as if someone were standing right there.
CLANG!
As Lin Kuang's slash connected, Nameless rang out with the sound of a collision. The Shadow Guard's figure reappeared at the point of impact.
"Yao Wenwen, get out of here. Go back to Guo'er and the others. I'll handle this," Lin Kuang said calmly, glancing at her.
Hearing this, Yao Wenwen stubbornly refused to leave. But upon seeing Lin Kuang's cold gaze, she had no choice but to let out a reluctant huff and turn away.
"Hiding is useless against me. I was just careless a moment ago," Lin Kuang said calmly, his eyes fixed on the Shadow Guard.
"Is that so?" the Shadow Guard retorted, and his figure vanished once more.
Seeing this, Lin Kuang's eyes widened. The Shadow Guard had simply vanished into thin air! I thought it was an illusion caused by extreme speed, but now it seems that's not it. How is that possible? How can a person just vanish into thin air? This isn't normal. There must be some trick to it that I don't know.
With his powerful Perception on high alert, he scanned his surroundings. He was confident that even though the Shadow Guard had disappeared, he could sense his presence the moment he acted.
The air around Lin Kuang became deathly still. It was so quiet that the oppressive silence alone could make a person break down.
Lin Kuang sneered inwardly. My resolve is like iron. If my opponent thinks they can distract me with a tactic like this, it's laughable.
A full minute passed with absolutely no movement. Anyone else might have assumed the Shadow Guard was gone for good. However, Lin Kuang's intuition told him otherwise. The Shadow Guard hadn't left; he was still somewhere nearby. The sharp sense of danger in his heart had not subsided in the slightest.
Nearby, Lin Guo'er, Liu Shilin, and Xu Yingying watched on, their beautiful eyes filled with worry for Lin Kuang.
Only Yao Wenwen's expression remained relatively calm, but her sweaty palms betrayed her anxiety. That minute may have seemed short, but for the one standing in the center of it all, the pressure was immense. Yao Wenwen understood this all too well. She worried that Lin Kuang wouldn't be able to withstand the pressure. The moment his concentration wavered, the Shadow Guard would undoubtedly unleash a torrential onslaught!
Damn it, you have to hold on! You're the man who defeated me! Yao Wenwen muttered to herself. She seemed unaware that in her confusion, she had begun to worry about Lin Kuang.
Lin Kuang stood calmly on the spot. Not only was his mind undisturbed by the Shadow Guard's pressure, but he was even dividing his attention to recover the True Qi in his body. It was a testament to his incredible boldness that he dared to do so at a time like this.
CLANG!
In that same instant, Lin Kuang whipped Nameless up to block the space directly above his head.
