Chapter 417 417 Paying the Price

"Mr. Chu, what's wrong? You seem very surprised."

Seeing Chu Zhongtian's expression, Lin Kuang couldn't help but laugh. His composed and calm demeanor terrified the other man.

Despite his usual arrogance, Chu Zhongtian was terrified. After all, he was just an ordinary person; how could he not be scared in a situation like this? Moreover, he was a man of high status, accustomed to controlling the life and death of others. Now that his own was on the line, his fear was even more intense than that of an ordinary person.

"You... what do you want to do! Lin Kuang, I must remind you who I am in East Sea! Who I am in Yanjing! I advise you to think twice, or else you'll find my backers are not people you can afford to provoke!" Chu Zhongtian roared in shock and anger, his body trembling uncontrollably.

"Oh? Your status? Tsk tsk, is your status really that valuable? Is it that intimidating? Chu Zhongtian, sometimes you have to pay the price for your mistakes. It doesn't matter who you are; everyone must face the consequences of their actions. Besides, your mistakes are quite serious, aren't they?" Lin Kuang said with a smile, utterly dismissing him.

Upon hearing Lin Kuang's words, Chu Zhongtian's expression changed, horror flashing in his eyes. He was suddenly struck by an intensely bad premonition.

"You... what exactly are you trying to say?!" Chu Zhongtian asked, his voice wavering with shock and doubt.

"Nothing much. I just wanted to tell you that I've seized the goods you left with Zhang Lianmei. I also wanted to inform you that the only reason Zhang Lianmei cooperated with you was because I told her to set you up," Lin Kuang said with a grin, clearly in a very good mood.

Hearing this, Chu Zhongtian froze for a moment. Then, his face flushed red, and his eyes filled with indescribable rage. "You... you two... you're in this together! You played me!" he roared, pointing a finger at Lin Kuang. However, he inwardly breathed a small sigh of relief. His most important secret, it seemed, had not been discovered.

Lin Kuang quietly watched the man's eyes, taking in his every expression.

"What's wrong, Mr. Chu? Feeling relieved? It's just one batch of goods; you can simply write it off. After all, you, Chu Zhongtian, aren't short on money. As long as your most important secret remains undiscovered, it's not a problem, right?" Lin Kuang asked in a playful tone.

At these words, Chu Zhongtian's face changed again, vacillating between pale and red like a neon sign.

"Lin Kuang! What... what do you really know?! What are you trying to say?!" Chu Zhongtian stammered, his voice trembling.

In that instant, Chu Zhongtian felt as if all his secrets had been laid bare, and his heart filled with terror.

"Eh? Why so nervous? Do you have some other secrets? Oh, oh, oh... look at this brain of mine. I remember now. It seems you're also working with people from the Island Country, aren't you? Ah, what was that person's name? Let me think, let me think..." Lin Kuang said with a smile, pretending to ponder.

Hearing Lin Kuang's words, Chu Zhongtian was dumbstruck. His cooperation with Inoue Kenta was supposed to be an absolute secret. What do Lin Kuang's words imply? Has he discovered it? Has he really discovered it? With this thought, he stared at Lin Kuang, his gaze trembling, praying that the name wouldn't leave Lin Kuang's lips.

However, fate often works against one's wishes. The more Chu Zhongtian prayed not to hear the name, the more certain it became that he would.

Sure enough, Lin Kuang suddenly slapped his forehead as if in a flash of insight, looking as though he had just recalled the name.

"Oh, right! That person is named Inoue Kenta. He's the one who provided you with all these goods. Inoue Kenta told me you're an insatiably greedy person, and that he really hates you. But you should count yourself lucky. Lucky that his plan failed and lucky that I caught him. He said he was going to personally eliminate you after everything was over. So, Chu Zhongtian, shouldn't you be thanking me?"

Seeing Chu Zhongtian's dejected expression, vacant eyes, and ashen face, Lin Kuang asked with a smug smile.

At this point, Chu Zhongtian was completely dumbfounded, utterly bewildered. He had never imagined that Lin Kuang would know about Inoue Kenta. Even more shocking was the revelation that Inoue Kenta had been captured alive. Worst of all, the captured man had spilled everything! What a complete lack of professional ethics!

"What's wrong? Stunned?" Lin Kuang couldn't help but ask.

Chu Zhongtian stared blankly at the ceiling, as if he hadn't heard Lin Kuang at all.

Seeing this, Lin Kuang couldn't help but shake his head. This guy's mental fortitude is too weak. He collapsed after just a few sentences. How boring!

Just then, Han Qiaoqiao's trembling voice cut in. "Don't... don't move, or I'll kill you."

Han Qiaoqiao stood beside Lin Kuang, gripping a miniature pistol with the dark muzzle pointed at his temple. If he dared to move, she would pull the trigger.

At this, Lin Kuang simply smiled faintly, his gaze landing on the trembling woman.

"I really don't know why he's so infatuated with you," Lin Kuang said calmly, his eyes fixed on Han Qiaoqiao. "Without you, he probably wouldn't have ended up like this. Han Qiaoqiao, all of this is your fault. To be honest, the person I want to kill most is you."

Upon hearing this, Han Qiaoqiao turned pale, her lips taking on a purplish hue. Her body shook so violently that the miniature pistol in her hand trembled incessantly.

As if grasping at a final straw, Chu Zhongtian screamed, "Shoot, Qiaoqiao, shoot! Kill him!"

"Alright, alright," Han Qiaoqiao answered tremulously and pulled the trigger.

In that same instant, however, Lin Kuang's figure vanished from the chair. The shot went wide!

"Where... where did he go?" Chu Zhongtian exclaimed.

"Right here," an icy voice sounded from behind Han Qiaoqiao.

Before she could turn, Lin Kuang's hand chopped down viciously on the back of her neck, shattering her vertebrae.

THUD. Han Qiaoqiao's body crumpled to the ground, blood oozing from the corner of her mouth.

Lin Kuang felt no sympathy for this woman. She deserved to die and had to pay the price for her actions.

Chu Zhongtian stared blankly at the scene. Watching Lin Kuang kill Han Qiaoqiao, he let out a howl as his mind completely broke down, and he fainted on the spot.
