Chapter 800: Hoping for Even Closer Ties

Chapter 800: Hoping for Even Closer Ties

This remark left Melissa Merce speechless; a look of awkwardness crossed her face. Why was Jocelyn still like this? Speaking without considering others’ feelings! But she was Finn Morgan’s sister, and Melissa couldn’t offend her.

So she smiled and changed the subject, "Jocelyn, why do I see an elderly person celebrating their birthday on the stage background?"

"My grandfather’s comrade. The two of them once faced life and death together, and since they share the same birth year, month, and day, they agreed decades ago to celebrate their 80th birthdays together." After saying this, Jocelyn took another sip of milk.

Melissa nodded thoughtfully, "So both sides’ family and friends will be coming, right?"

"That’s for sure." The girl turned her eyes to glance at her, reminding her, "So don’t think you can secure my brother with just a birthday banquet. As long as my brother doesn’t care too much about The Monroe Family’s face, The Monroe Family will be embarrassed in front of more people."

Hearing this, Melissa’s face turned alternately pale and flushed.

Jocelyn tipped her head back and drank the cup of milk in one go, "It tastes great!" Then she shouted to the servant not far away, "Mrs. Li! Please bring me another cup of milk!"

"Alright, Miss!"

Melissa was filled with jealousy; even though she wasn’t Finn Morgan’s biological sister, she lived here, enjoying the treatment of a lady of the house.

In the European-style mansion, the floor-to-ceiling windows were spotlessly clean, and the warm sunshine streamed through the windows.

Zachary Merce pulled Everett Morgan into the spacious lounge, where the two sat down in front of the sofa.

Zachary handed him a contract with a smile, "Here’s to a pleasant partnership in the second half of the year! We’ll be more than partners."

Everett Morgan wore a light gray suit, different from traditional tailoring and tones, looking suddenly unconventional.

He smiled and glanced at the contract on the table, naturally understanding the other’s intention.

Taking advantage of the privacy, Everett spoke, "Zachary, strengthening our bond is naturally a good thing. Like you, I hope these two kids end up together, knowing each other well, isn’t that great?"

"Indeed, indeed." Zachary took a sip of his tea.

Hearing Everett continue, "In resisting this, Finn has been unwilling to inherit my company. Graduating with dual doctorates from the world’s top university at 22, he returned home only to work for others. Over the past four years, I’ve come to realize that marriage is his own affair and he must make his own decisions."

This made Zachary’s face slightly stiffen.

But he still held his ground, "Marriage is no trifling matter, Everett. Your Finn is excellent, but he lacks romantic experience."

Saying this, observing the other man’s expression, he continued, "You know that divorce rates are soaring these days. If Finn were to marry my Melissa, any little tiffs between the young couple would be easily mediated by our families, wouldn’t you say?"

Everett no longer voiced his opinion. He had already made his stance clear regarding his son’s marriage.

His gaze shifted to the contract on the table as Everett stated, "With my son not coming back to help, I indeed feel a bit overwhelmed. Several projects are launching simultaneously in the second half of the year, and I don’t plan on taking on new ones."

The implication being, take back the contract! No partnership!

This left Zachary feeling strange; years of friendship, was it all going to collapse due to the marriage talks breaking down?

"Everett, Melissa genuinely loves your Finn." Alas, the parental heart, he wanted to try one last time for his daughter, "Could you see if they would be willing to give a relationship a try?"
