Chapter 939 - 937: Saving Face with Fake Generosity (Third Update)

In the Ji Family’s general manager office, Da Bao had just put down the phone when Little Treasure came over with a stack of documents."Is Sister’s phone broken?"

On their way back to the Ji Family after meeting a client, Da Bao called Nuonuo several times, but it was always busy. Little Treasure, sitting beside his brother and seeing his frustration, asked about it and found out that Sister’s phone wasn’t connecting.

He also took out his phone to try, and it was the same result. Like Da Bao, he spent quite a while worrying.

"No, she was talking with Fang Kai about movie business for over an hour."

Da Bao answered casually, but to Little Treasure, it sounded quite different.

"Fang Kai? The guy who co-starred with Sister in Director Sun’s movie?"

Though Little Treasure wasn’t as focused as Da Bao, he always kept an eye on the guys revolving around his sister. If someone was too annoying, he couldn’t help but secretly investigate and put some obstacles if necessary.

"Yeah, that guy." At the moment, Da Bao increasingly showed the demeanor of a mature man. Even if he had some misgivings, it didn’t show on the surface.

Little Treasure wasn’t just anyone; he knew just as much about his brother and sister as their mom did.

"Is the guy too famous?"

Little Treasure ultimately couldn’t remain as calm as Da Bao, especially since the matter concerned his beloved sister, making him even more attentive.

Da Bao lifted his eyes to glance at him, "Little Treasure, don’t meddle. Sister should handle it."

Upon hearing this, the young master rolled his eyes internally. Was his brother pretending to be generous even though he knew that guy Fang Kai was interested in Sister?

"Ji Dabao, you know Sister is so clueless about emotions!"

Da Bao nodded, "I know, that’s exactly why I’m not worried!"

When he said he wasn’t worried, he was obviously faking it.

But he couldn’t constantly act like a jealous husband, excessively controlling her. After all, besides being Ji Family’s daughter and his future wife, she was also the actress Si Han.

She had her own social circle, her own ways of doing things, and her principles. If he controlled her too much, it would only make her resentful and push her further away.

Little Treasure stared at him for a while, then shrugged to show he wouldn’t care anymore.

"Alright then, since you don’t mind about your own wife, why should I, as the brother and little uncle? Isn’t this the classic case of the Emperor not being anxious but the eunuch being anxious?"

Da Bao shrugged without saying anything, making Little Treasure even more irritable and feeling like his brother was just maintaining a facade of generosity.

When it was time to leave work, Little Treasure took Da Bao’s car home, but on the way, Da Bao suddenly changed direction.

"Ji Dabao, are you so busy that you took the wrong lane?"

"No, Sister mentioned she wanted to eat nectarines. It’s not the season yet, but the fruits at Le Sheng Fruit Chain Supermarket are the most complete and freshest in the city. Buying them there should be fresher." Da Bao was quick to act.

"Tsk, yet another wife-slave!" Little Treasure pursed his lips.

Da Bao smiled and glanced at him, "Don’t worry, young master, you can’t escape. Our Ji Family is full of wife-slaves!"

Little Treasure scratched his head and disdainfully said, "Tsk, such good genes."

Da Bao’s eyes deepened in amusement, "Yeah, if you want to blame, blame it on Dad!"

Because they wanted to buy fresher nectarines, the two brothers ended up returning home half an hour later than usual.

Nuonuo probably heard the car noise and ran out to open the gate to welcome them.

"Why so late, was there traffic?" Nuonuo worriedly opened the co-pilot door, letting Little Treasure out of the car.

Normally, if anyone from the Ji Family was coming home late, they would call home to let everyone know, to avoid worrying.

Little Treasure glanced at her and huffed, "Weren’t you the one who wanted nectarines?"

Nuonuo looked puzzled, meeting Little Treasure’s slightly angry gaze, "Yes, but isn’t there a fruit shop selling them at the street corner?"

"Someone thought they’re not fresh enough!"

Little Treasure said that and left the two other fools, walking into the yard himself.

Nuonuo looked at Da Bao in front of her innocently, "What’s going on with young master?"

Da Bao smiled and kissed her on the lips, carrying the fresh nectarines with one hand and wrapping his arm around her waist as they walked into the yard, "Don’t mind him, he’s just unbalanced."

Nuonuo immediately understood, thinking that young master was probably stifled from too much exhaust fumes after making too many detours.

"Brother, take a rest; I’ll go wash some nectarines to taste."

Nuonuo carried the nectarines into the kitchen, and after ten minutes, she came out with several glasses of freshly squeezed juice on a tray, handing the first glass to the young master.

"Little Treasure, taste the nectarines you specifically went to buy, see if they’re sweet?"

Little Treasure took the glass, first taking a sip.

"How is it?" Nuonuo asked.

"Hmm, it’s alright!"

Little Treasure said with a straight face, then tilted his head back and downed half the glass, glancing at the two other glasses on the tray.

Nuonuo immediately understood, handing one of the glasses to Da Bao and taking one herself, then saying, "There’s more in the kitchen, if it’s good you can get some more."

No sooner had Nuonuo said that than Little Treasure was already standing up with his empty glass, marching into the kitchen. Da Bao gave Nuonuo a thumbs up and took a sip of the juice.

"Hmm... indeed, it’s fragrant and sweet."

Looks like the half-hour detour was indeed worth it!

Two days later, Nuonuo was summoned back to the company by Ning Yi and Jiahao to discuss matters concerning another artist’s new album. Nuonuo didn’t bother Tian Fang but directly had the Ji Family driver take her back to the company.

Normally, when she returned to the company, she mostly stayed in the artists’ office, but that day, Ning Yi and Jiahao weren’t in the artists’ office. Tong Ke and the others happened to be around and told her that Ning Yi and Jiahao went to the general manager’s office.

Nuonuo initially thought she would just wait there, but Tong Ke said, "Senior sister, Brother Ning asked you to go over to the general manager’s place when you arrived."

Nuonuo had never met the boss of Xinying Entertainment, but she had met General Manager President Chen a few times. President Chen was always polite and attentive to her, and their relationship wasn’t bad.

"Alright then, I’ll go over."

Nuonuo carried the snacks and fruits she bought specifically on the way to the high-level office, handed the food to colleagues working in the hall. The colleagues seemed to know her purpose, pointing to the general manager’s office, saying, "Brother Ning and Brother Hao are over at President Chen’s, and they asked you to go in to find them when you arrive."

Nuonuo felt strange; in her months at the company, she experienced that the relationships between superiors and subordinates were very harmonious and casual. This time, being told repeatedly like this felt as if there was something important to explain.
