Chapter 569 - 568 Gradually Repairing the Relationship (Part 1)
"Hmm."Le Tong responded softly and didn’t continue speaking.
After all, if you insist on asking her about the ins and outs of this matter, she can’t really explain it clearly.
All she knows is that twenty-six years ago, the youngest son of the Yang Family had a falling out with his family. Then, twenty-six years later, there was a dramatic reunion, and after a DNA test, she was informed that she was the granddaughter of the Old Yang Family. After that, things developed into the current situation.
As for what really happened with her father over the years, it’s still a mystery to Le Tong.
"Then... your grandfather..." Mr. Ji hesitated slightly, as if pondering his words or observing Le Tong’s reaction.
"What?" Le Tong paused her chopsticks and looked at Mr. Ji.
"Does he have any objections about you and Ah Ru?"
As one of the involved parties, Mr. Ji knew that both the current Ji Family and its predecessor, Huagang Group, had a bitter rivalry with the Yang Family.
The two families haven’t done anything excessive to each other for years, purely because their ancestors had early established restraints and balanced power. If they really fought, it would only result in mutual destruction. Therefore, the two families have coexisted peacefully for many years.
But now, long-time adversaries who viewed each other as thorns in their sides had become relatives because of Le Tong. Given Mr. Ji’s understanding of Old Master Yang, it’s entirely possible that the stubborn old man would try to break up the couple.
"He has no objections..."
How could Old Master dare to have any objections?
Not to mention that Le Tong and Ji Rui already have a son together, the guilt Old Master feels towards his youngest son alone makes it difficult for him to interfere in any of Le Tong’s affairs.
Le Tong’s answer surprised Mr. Ji a bit, but he wasn’t foolish enough to reveal his inner doubts.
"Since you and Ah Ru have obtained the marriage certificate, should I go to the Yang Family to formally propose and discuss the follow-up matters?"
This was indeed something he, as a father, should do.
Previously, he had prejudice against Le Tong, so he wouldn’t have proactively arranged this for the young couple. Later, when his misunderstanding was cleared, he thought she was an orphan with no family, so he never mentioned meeting her relatives or anything like that.
But now knowing she has a family, whether it’s ordinary or prominent, it makes sense for him as the groom’s father to actively arrange to meet and connect with her family.
Mr. Ji’s proposal was something Le Tong hadn’t thought of before.
"Let’s talk about it later..."
Le Tong’s answer left Mr. Ji feeling quite disappointed, thinking that Le Tong was still unwilling to forgive him, hence considering a meeting between the families’ elders as optional.
Unbeknownst to him, it wasn’t that Le Tong was consciously avoiding it; it’s just that the Ji Family currently had too many things waiting to be resolved, and personal matters didn’t seem urgent to her.
However, although Le Tong vetoed this matter on her side, Mr. Ji, upon returning home that night, still immediately called the Yang Family.
In Mr. Ji’s view, although Le Tong wasn’t particularly concerned or interested in the matter, her parents were gone. He naturally needed to contact Old Master Yang, whose seniority was above his own, and as a junior and the groom’s father, he should be the first to make a call to greet the elder.
He didn’t mention his call to Old Master Yang beforehand to either Le Tong or Ji Rui. But the next day, Le Tong learned of this from Old Master’s phone call.
Of course, that sly old fox, Old Master, wouldn’t mention this straight away. He chatted casually with Le Tong for quite a while before pretending to mention it unintentionally.
"Girl, Ji Rui’s father called me yesterday."
Le Tong was slightly surprised, "What did he say?"
At this moment, Le Tong’s feelings were very subtle.
Whether it was Old Master Yang or Mr. Ji, she wasn’t familiar with or close to either of them, and her feelings towards both were much the same, indifferent.
But these two people, to whom she wasn’t emotionally attached, became her closest elders due to blood ties or her relationship with Ji Rui. If these two were to have a conflict, she wouldn’t know whom to support, or perhaps, she shouldn’t support either?
"He asked if there were any dates chosen for the wedding and if there were any specific ideas or requirements concerning the betrothal gifts."
Le Tong didn’t know the real intention behind Mr. Ji’s call, whether he truly valued his son’s marriage or if he wanted to use this opportunity to win over the Yang Family.
Le Tong acknowledged her thoughts were a bit dark, but considering Mr. Ji’s excessive actions towards Ji Rui in the past, she couldn’t rule out the latter possibility.
However, she wouldn’t express these speculations to Ji Rui, making it hard for him; she’d rather keep them to herself and observe and verify slowly over time.
"Oh... and what do you think, Grandpa?"
If Old Master wanted betrothal gifts to show off, Le Tong wasn’t a stingy person, and surely Ji Rui wouldn’t mind a bit of betrothal gifts either.
"Silly girl, you calling me Grandpa is the greatest betrothal gift. Other than that, I don’t need anything. But what about you—what do you want as a dowry? Grandpa will have it prepared for you."
Le Tong wanted to say no, not wanting to accept something without merit.
But she quickly swallowed those words; such comments are too hurtful and shouldn’t be casually said.
The person in front of her was an eighty-year-old man with some traditional and rigid views, not someone like Yang Sheng who could joke freely.
"Grandpa, I don’t need any dowry."
Old Master seemed to have anticipated her response and said nothing more, only that if she thought of anything she needed later, she could speak up anytime.
"All right, let’s consider it Grandpa owing me for now." Le Tong naturally wouldn’t directly reject the elder’s kind intention and generosity.
"Sheng and Ji Rui set out early this morning, don’t worry, this thing won’t drag on for long."
"Hmm, thank you, Grandpa."
Ji Rui had called early to tell her that he and Yang Sheng flew straight from Beijing to Y Country to handle matters there, also mentioning how Old Master found some acquaintances who had held significant positions at the Y Country Consulate, supposedly providing great assistance with this issue.
Le Tong’s thank you naturally included the matter Ji Rui had privately shared with her.
"Silly girl, why thank Grandpa? Aren’t your matters and Ji Rui’s matters just Grandpa’s matters?"
Clearly, Old Master was not pleased with Le Tong’s courteousness and spoke with a notably displeased tone.
"Grandpa, I’m sorry. Actually, that night when you and Ji Rui were talking in the study, I heard it all."
Feeling Old Master’s sincere intentions, Le Tong couldn’t bear to deceive the elder.
