Chapter 568 - 567 As Long As You Are Willing (Second Update)

Ji Rui and Old Master booked a noon flight to Beijing, and seeing there wasn’t much time left, Le Tong decided not to fuss around at home for lunch. Instead, she went to Longxiang nearby for lunch. Xiao Li drove Old Master and Ji Rui to the airport, while another driver drove Baobao and Nuonuo home first before taking Le Tong back to the office. After being away for a few days, a pile of work had built up. Busy as she was, Le Tong didn’t even have time to think about the progress on Ji Rui’s side.

However, even if the cooperation project faced obstacles at the Yang Family board meeting, Old Master and Yang Sheng could easily handle it — nothing for Le Tong to worry about.

Sure enough, just as Le Tong was about to finish work, she received a message from Ji Rui.

"Everything went smoothly, no need to worry."

He only sent a message, probably still in a meeting. Le Tong replied, "Got it."

A little while later, another message from Ji Rui came through, "Where are you? Home? Office?"

Le Tong glanced at the screen content, indicating he’d finally free, so she immediately called back.

"Is it convenient to talk?" Le Tong asked as soon as the call connected.

"Yes, I just finished the meeting with Yang Sheng and the others. The general direction remains unchanged; there are a few minor issues that need adjustments. If there’s no hitches, the contract should be signed by tomorrow."

Even though she’d anticipated this outcome, hearing it directly made Le Tong breathe a sigh of relief.

"What’s your schedule tomorrow? Are you coming back home or flying directly to Y Country?"

"Depends on the situation, although it’s likely I’ll fly directly to Y Country with Yang Sheng. Again, I’ll have to trouble you to look after Baobao and Nuonuo."

Ji Rui’s polite words made Le Tong chuckle softly, "Mr. Ji, since when did you become so polite? I still remember when you first asked me to prepare picnic food for you and Baobao — you were as arrogant as you could be, really annoying!"

Whenever memories from the past flash through Le Tong’s mind, she always feels the past and the present are two starkly contrasting, different styles of painting.

Ji Rui laughed too, "How is that the same? Before, I was your boss, my words were orders for you to execute. But now I’m your husband, so of course, I should take good care of you. Otherwise, why would you want to spend a lifetime with me?"

Le Tong automatically ignored the cheesy second half of the sentence, stubbornly focusing on the first half, "Tsk, Mr. Ji, I really feel like giving you a beating right now, what should I do?"

"Alright, let Yang Sheng do the honors? I won’t fight back! As long as you can bear to do so." Ji Rui’s tone was quite relaxed, indicating things were indeed progressing smoothly over there.

The two chatted for a while longer until Le Tong heard someone calling Ji Rui, vaguely sounding like Yang Sheng.

Not waiting for Le Tong to ask anything, Ji Rui said, "I’ll hang up for now, and call back later."

After ending the call, Le Tong was busy for another half an hour before finally leaving work for home.

As soon as she opened the door, she heard Baobao talking and Mr. Ji’s voice conversing with Baobao.

Le Tong felt secretly puzzled, wasn’t Mr. Ji supposed to have mobility issues? How did he come over?

Yesterday, after they returned, they had called Mr. Ji and arranged to visit him on Saturday as a family. At the time, Mr. Ji hadn’t indicated anything special, so how come he’s come over now?

"Hello, Chairman!"

Le Tong changed her shoes and walked in, smiling as she greeted Mr. Ji seated in the wheelchair in the living room.

"Back already? Aunt Guan said dinner’s ready, go wash your face first."

Mr. Ji’s attitude towards Le Tong seemed to have lost the previous politeness and distance, showing kindness and warmth, similar to how he treated Ji Rui.

During dinner, Mr. Ji’s gaze occasionally fell on Le Tong’s face. Le Tong didn’t want to pay attention but knowing what must come couldn’t be avoided, she looked up to meet Mr. Ji’s eyes.

"Chairman, do you have something to say?"

Seeing Le Tong’s forthrightness, Mr. Ji didn’t hide anymore, "I heard from Baobao that you and Ah Ru registered your marriage?"

Originally, this wasn’t a secret, and since he was Ji Rui’s father, even though he lacked authority to intervene, he still had the right to know.

"Yes, we should have consulted you beforehand, apologies, it was inconsiderate of Ji Rui and me." Le Tong wasn’t particularly close with Mr. Ji but maintained the necessary courtesies, always polite unless the other party went overboard.

However, Mr. Ji got a bit flustered, "No! No! Don’t misunderstand, I’m very happy about you marrying Ah Ru."

Le Tong softly said "Thank you!" When she decided to accept Ji Rui’s feelings, she hadn’t expected recognition from Mr. Ji, so being treated politely now made her somewhat glad.

"When are you planning to hold the wedding?" Mr. Ji cautiously asked, perhaps feeling as if he had no right to interfere in his son’s affairs as an incompetent father.

"We haven’t planned anything yet, with a lot going on at the company, maybe after things settle down we’ll see."

The matter of the wedding had been seriously put on Ji Rui’s agenda, yet Le Tong didn’t feel any urgency, not having considered any details or possibilities.

Mr. Ji assumed she was being perfunctory, the slight excitement on his face dimming again.

Seeing Mr. Ji’s expression, knowing he was overthinking, Le Tong explained, "The matters in Y Country can’t be postponed. Ji Rui might fly directly there tomorrow, so how long negotiations will take is still unknown. Therefore, we both feel the wedding should be properly prepared once everything in Y Country is resolved, after all, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime event, no room for sloppiness."

The latter part regarding wedding was pure comfort for Mr. Ji’s injured feelings.

Mr. Ji clearly appreciated these words, his face gradually lighting up with a smile.

"Since you’ve already made arrangements, I won’t say much. Let’s wait for Ah Ru to return, and we’ll discuss it carefully."

Le Tong replied, "Mm," not saying more, focusing on eating her meal.

After a little while, Mr. Ji couldn’t hold back anymore, "I heard Baobao say the old man from the Yang Family visited here yesterday?"

Le Tong nodded, "Yes, he stayed for a night and flew back to Beijing with Ji Rui this afternoon."

Le Tong answers any questions, but doesn’t have a habit of proactively reporting everything. For the elderly opposite her, she couldn’t yet consider him her elder, merely extending courtesy due to Ji Rui.

Old Master hesitated a while longer, "Does Baobao call the Yang Family’s old man Grandpa?"

"Yes, my dad is his youngest son, so Baobao calls him Grandpa." Le Tong straightforwardly admitted.

That’s just how she is — unwilling to acknowledge anything until she comes to terms with it. Once she’s reconciled, she doesn’t mind who knows about her background.

"Your dad is his youngest son..." Mr. Ji appeared incredulous. Apparently, Baobao hadn’t explained the details of the visit to him.
