Chapter 526 - 525: Intense Possessiveness (Second Update)
Le Tong, who had come to trust Ji Rui deeply, had been sleeping quite well for the past few nights. But this night, she couldn’t sleep well at all, tossing and turning with Yang Sheng’s words running through her mind repeatedly. In the middle of the night, Le Tong woke up several times intermittently, afraid of disturbing Ji Rui’s sleep, so she dared not move too much.
Twice, Ji Rui, seemingly sensing the stiffness of the person in his arms through a haze of sleepiness, kissed her hair and asked, "What’s wrong?"
Le Tong dared not move even more, and without her response, Ji Rui soon fell asleep again.
It wasn’t until nearly dawn that Le Tong finally drifted off to sleep.
Ji Rui woke up as usual, looked at Le Tong in his embrace, noticed she was sleeping deeply, kissed her face, gently moved her from his arms, tucked her in, and propped himself up to look at her for a moment before quietly getting out of bed.
He vaguely remembered that last night she seemed to cling to him stiffly. He thought she couldn’t sleep and asked her, but she didn’t respond. Being in a daze, he thought it was an illusion.
Seeing how deeply she was sleeping now, he concluded it wasn’t an illusion—she barely slept last night.
Lately, her sleep quality had been good, so why couldn’t she sleep last night? Did Yang Sheng say something to her?
Ji Rui frowned at his reflection in the mirror. Between his handsome brows, was there perhaps a lack of the spiritedness he had when he first became Le Tong’s lover?
Could it be that his appearance inadvertently betrayed himself?
Ji Rui placed one hand on the sink and held the razor with the other, following the curve of his chin, his gaze following the razor’s movement while his heart pondered over Le Tong’s insomnia.
Should he tell her the truth?
But even if he did tell her, she wouldn’t be of much help, and it would probably make her worry more, wouldn’t it?
Ji Rui hesitated in the bathroom for a while, taking twice as long as usual to finish grooming. When he came out, Le Tong was still asleep, showing no sign of waking up.
Ji Rui tiptoed out of the bedroom, intending to check if Baobao and Nuonuo were up. As soon as he opened the door, he saw Baobao holding Nuonuo on the sofa, chattering in a language only they could understand to amuse Nuonuo.
"Baby, you’re awake?"
"Hi, Daddy! Morning!" Baobao grinned widely at Ji Rui.
Ji Rui walked over and kissed both kids on their faces, detecting a faint milky scent on Nuonuo and asked.
"Baobao, did Nuonuo have her milk?"
"Don’t worry, Daddy. I mixed the formula using the method from the online search, and Nuonuo ate well!"
Ji Rui felt that with such a son, there was indeed nothing to be overly concerned about.
"Where’s Mommy?" Baobao craned his neck to look behind him.
"Still asleep." Ji Rui replied calmly, getting up to pour a cup of coffee.
"Oh..."
When Ji Rui turned around with the hot coffee, Baobao winked at him and smirked, "Mommy must be tired, huh?"
Ji Rui was taken aback and, realizing the little guy’s smile seemed to have a different meaning, he became aware that Le Tong’s worries last night might not have been unfounded.
This little rascal, is he too precocious?!
"Baobao, don’t talk nonsense!" Ji Rui rarely scolded sternly.
But Baobao didn’t mind and lowered his head to playfully hold Nuonuo’s tiny hand, happily entertaining the little girl, then said nonchalantly, "I’m not talking nonsense, it’s just like in the TV shows..."
Those TV dramas depicting such scenarios were probably what Aunt Wang, who took care of him before, used to watch.
Ji Rui truly regretted not spending more time with this little one in the past.
When Le Tong woke up and checked the time, it was already past eight, startling her. She quickly jumped up, ran barefoot to open the door, and turned to the living room where Ji Rui and Baobao were looking her way.
"Mommy, morning!" Baobao called.
"Awake?" Ji Rui asked.
"Yes, why didn’t you wake me?" Le Tong, annoyed, smoothed her messy hair.
"No rush, Yang Sheng’s car will pick us up at 9:30, plenty of time for you to wash up and have breakfast."
Le Tong quickly freshened up as if she were in battle mode, and emerged to gulp down her milk.
"Slow down, there’s no hurry!" Ji Rui frowned at her frantic pace and pressed her hand gently, motioning for her to take it easy.
Le Tong couldn’t afford to relax; she had to dress up Baobao and Nuonuo before 9:30 and also put on light makeup and a gown herself.
"Didn’t sleep well last night?"
Ji Rui pulled her hand, scrutinizing her eyes carefully for signs of unrest.
Knowing she couldn’t hide the truth, Le Tong sheepishly confessed, "I have trouble sleeping in unfamiliar beds."
Ji Rui didn’t believe it, but it wasn’t the right time to pursue the truth.
Le Tong finished her milk and was about to get up to prepare when Ji Rui tugged her wrist and forced her to stay.

Le Tong felt a bit dissatisfied, "I can eat at the banquet later!"
"Eat!" Ji Rui ignored her protest, tearing the bread apart and pushing it to her mouth. At such events, where many would be eager to get to know him, sneaking away to eat might not be so easy for her.
Le Tong had no choice but to obediently open her mouth, finishing the two pieces of bread before Ji Rui finally let her go.
She brought out the dresses delivered last night: a light pink princess dress for Nuonuo enveloping her delicate tiny body adorably, and a suit matching his Daddy’s for Baobao—a black long coat with a white shirt. After dressing Baobao, she helped him put on a thick down jacket.
For herself, she chose a long-sleeved light green traditional-style cheongsam, styled her hair into a simple bun, and donned a long faux mink white shawl. The overall look was uniquely elegant, exuding the refined grace and noble air reminiscent of those highborn young women from Shanghai in the past.
Seeing Le Tong dressed like this, Ji Rui couldn’t help but be momentarily lost.
Every time he saw Le Tong dressed up, he would be startled, because each time, she gave him a different feeling.
It’s not that she wasn’t beautiful every day, but that she made Ji Rui discover more different sides of her—sides that seemed to be her true essence, perfectly harmonious.
Like the top of a diamond, though multi-faceted, each facet sparkled with its dazzling light.
"I used to think women in cheongsams were old-fashioned, but you’ve changed my mind!" Ji Rui wrapped his arms around her slender waist, and at that moment, he even thought about keeping her sequestered in a hotel so no one else could see her.
The thought of her being ogled by men at the banquet with amazed looks made him feel uncomfortable all over.
