Chapter 510 - 509: Feeling Creepy (Second Update)
"Aren’t you supposed to be in Beijing? How come you’re here?"The man’s strong arms tightly embraced Le Tong, glaring unkindly at Luo Yifan.
"Yuan’er is getting married, as her brother, I have to come back for it!"
Luo Yifan seemed completely unfazed by Ji Rui’s rude attitude, smiling as he defended himself.
Le Tong also found Ji Rui’s attitude truly unpleasant, she raised her head and glared at him, "Ji Rui, I forgot to eat myself, it has nothing to do with Yifan."
This man’s brain must have been soaked in jealousy, just look at how his tone could choke someone to death.
Ji Rui secretly pinched her waist hard, "Not eating and drinking?! And you think you’re in the right?"
Le Tong rolled her eyes, "I forgot! I didn’t do it on purpose!"
"Forgot? Was your brain placed on your neck just to make you taller?" Ji Rui spoke as if he had taken gunpowder, both harsh and sarcastic.
Le Tong then realized that this man seemed even angrier than she had thought!
Feeling guilty, Le Tong tugged at the man’s slightly cool large hand, her tone softening quite a bit, "I took some medicine, my stomach doesn’t hurt anymore, can we leave now?"
Ji Rui was furious, but she didn’t want to make a scene in public, plus, the fault was hers, it shouldn’t drag Luo Yifan into it.
Ji Rui cast her a glance, half-embracing her as he helped her up, "Let’s go!"
Le Tong turned her head and waved at Luo Yifan, and Ji Rui’s warning voice came to her ear, "I’ll settle accounts with you later!"
This remark, naturally, wasn’t meant for Le Tong, but for Luo Yifan.
Le Tong smiled apologetically at Luo Yifan, while Luo Yifan responded with a knowing smile and waved, indicating not to worry.
Ji Rui held Le Tong and quickly walked out of the hospital doors, the car was parked at the entrance of the hospital, Ji Rui opened the passenger door and helped her into the car.
"Ji Rui, this really wasn’t Yifan’s fault!" Le Tong emphasized once more.
Ji Rui ignored her, bending over to help her fasten the seatbelt before closing the door, walking around the front of the car to get in.
Seeing that Ji Rui wasn’t paying her any attention, Le Tong reluctantly spoke again, "Did you run all the red lights just now? Didn’t I tell you I’m fine, it’s too dangerous."
The nearly hour-long drive only took half an hour, there’s no doubt he sped all the way here.
"No!" Ji Rui replied to her, though his tone was still not great, he was finally willing to respond to her.
"Who are you trying to fool?" Le Tong obviously didn’t believe him.
"I took a shortcut, do you think everyone is as dumb as you?" Ji Rui retorted with annoyance, starting the car and driving away from the hospital.
Le Tong didn’t argue back, hanging her head in a resigned manner, looking like a child who knew she did something wrong and was ready to be scolded. She knew she had upset him, so she might as well let him vent a bit.
"Why didn’t you eat?"
Ji Rui didn’t look at her, his eyes fixed on the road ahead, but he wasn’t letting her off the hook verbally.
"Busy..." Le Tong mumbled softly.
"And now? Have you eaten yet?" Ji Rui, though angry, still put her health first.
"I had two pieces of cake before coming to the hospital." Le Tong reported truthfully; she knew well the principle of being lenient if you confess and being strict if you resist.
Especially with Ji Rui, a man who was harsh on the outside but soft on the inside and full of jealousy, she couldn’t clash with him head-on.
Ji Rui bit his lip, it seemed he was about to start scolding again.
Le Tong was thinking about how to smooth things over when the car quickly pulled over to the side of the road with a screeching stop.
Le Tong looked around in confusion, while Ji Rui, who was in the driver’s seat, had turned off the engine and got out of the car. "Let’s get something to eat first."
That’s when Le Tong realized there was a Hong Kong-style diner still open by the roadside.
Opening the car door, the biting cold wind slapped her face, and shrinking down, she got out of the car. Ji Rui walked over without a word, pulled open his coat, wrapping her up and holding her in his arms.
It was already close to midnight, coupled with the extreme cold, there weren’t many people in the diner.
Ji Rui found a spot near the warm air conditioning and sat down. Without asking what Le Tong wanted to eat, he directly ordered two bowls of fish porridge and two servings of steamed wontons.
Forgetting she was still in the cold shoulder period, Le Tong said, "I want fried wontons!"
Ji Rui glanced at her and she quickly shrank back into the sofa. "Fine, steamed it is!"
"Did you and Baobao also not have enough to eat?" Once the server left, Le Tong asked the man across from her who was emanating coldness.
"Just take care of yourself first!" Ji Rui shot her a look, "Did you go out with Luo Yifan?"
Ji Rui felt that he was either too trusting of Le Tong or too foolish, how could he have forgotten that with Luo Yuanyuan getting married, Luo Yifan would definitely come back.
If he remembered this person’s existence, he would’ve gone to the Luo family to pick her up no matter what tonight.
Even if it meant being called petty, he wouldn’t care.
"No!" Le Tong sighed internally, how did the topic circle back to this again?
"I’ve been busy all day, then a few college classmates came by. Since we hadn’t seen each other in a while, we sat down to chat, and Yifan showed up then."
Le Tong’s continuous efforts to clear Luo Yifan’s name only made Ji Rui even more uncomfortable inside.
"Are you worried I’ll actually do something to him?" Ji Rui asked in a huff.
Le Tong was completely out of patience, Ji Rui’s stubbornness was really too much to handle!
"Sigh, how about I call Yuan’er and let you ask her?"
Of course, this was just talk. If she really called, she’d be dead meat for a scolding from Yuan’er.
Ji Rui didn’t make a sound, just took a sip of his tea.
He actually understood that he was being overly sensitive.
But he couldn’t help it, just the thought of the man who silently had a crush on Le Tong for several years drinking with her made him uneasy!
He wasn’t unaware, even if Luo Yifan hadn’t moved on, Le Tong’s straightforward nature would never allow him the slightest chance.
But understanding is one thing; to truly be open-minded and indifferent, he couldn’t do it.
In fact, he knew very well that his behavior tonight was ridiculous and awkward.
But he just couldn’t stop himself, he couldn’t just sit at home pretending nothing happened, while she was out having fun with a man who had once had a crush on her, even if it was innocent, pure fun, he couldn’t accept it!
Le Tong nestled in the couch, seriously watching him for a while, silently cursing: This awkward man!
But though she cursed him, she stood up and walked over, sitting beside him.
"Alright, stop being mad. It’s so cold, what if you get sick from being angry?"
While she cursed him for being awkward in her heart, she softly coaxed him aloud, wrapping her arm around his, and resting her head lightly on his shoulder.
Ji Rui was truly angry, but the reason was probably divided into three parts.
One was because Le Tong wasn’t taking care of her own health.
The second was because of Luo Yifan.
The third was because of himself.
"Only a fool gets sick easily, and I’m not a fool." Ji Rui mumbled back at her.
Le Tong burst into laughter, "Alright, I’m the fool, Mr. Ji, you’re the smart one."
