Chapter 506 - 505: A Broad Mind Leads to a Plump Body (First Update)
Ji Rui and Le Tong have been busy lately, but occasionally, they pick up Baobao after work and head back to the mansion for dinner.According to Ji Rui, Baobao is always making a fuss about wanting to see the dogs and cats back home.
Le Tong knows very well that Ji Rui is actually worried about leaving the immobile Mr. Ji alone and lonely in the mansion.
Though she’s aware of his true feelings, Le Tong has never pointed this out to Ji Rui.
In her view, the relationship between this father and son has undoubtedly improved, yet they haven’t been this close for so long that even though they meet frequently now, there’s still an awkward and distant air between them.
Especially Ji Rui, he hardly initiates conversation with Mr. Ji. Whenever the old man asks him something, he answers in the briefest way possible, whereas even as an outsider, Le Tong talks more to Mr. Ji than Ji Rui does.
Of course, Le Tong understands that Ji Rui is inherently not a talkative person, coupled with the strained relationship with Mr. Ji over the years. The fact that he can now peacefully coexist with Mr. Ji is largely due to the life-and-death incidents the Ji Family men experienced recently, making him realize that all past grievances are trivial when facing mortality.
Surely, Mr. Ji understands that for such a stubborn man like his elder son, reaching this stage is already quite difficult.
Thus, he seems not to mind his elder son’s icy demeanor whatsoever. Whenever the three return, they can always see Mr. Ji smiling in anticipation at the parking lot, and no matter how late it is when they leave, he insists on having Housekeeper Li wheel him to see them off at the parking lot, not going back inside until the car drives off.
Le Tong, knowing Ji Rui’s awkwardness, privately asks Housekeeper Li and then buys small gifts according to Mr. Ji’s preferences. Occasionally, she helps out in the kitchen, making a few signature dishes based on the Ji Family men’s tastes, to appease the appetites of young and old alike.
Initially, during dinner, only Baobao and Mr. Ji would chat. Gradually, Le Tong occasionally joined in, and whenever she or Baobao spoke, a barely noticeable smile would appear on Ji Rui’s otherwise calm face.
The day before Luo Yuanyuan’s wedding, the designer brought the formal attire for Ji Rui, Le Tong, and Baobao to wear at the wedding, checking each garment’s fit after they tried them on.
Le Tong’s outfit fits perfectly and the designer was quite pleased.
The sizes for both Baobao and Ji Rui were also just right, but the designer was slightly surprised.
"Mr. Ji, you’ve gained some weight!"
She used an affirmative tone.
Ji Rui has never been concerned about his weight since he’s not prone to gaining weight, and despite being busy, he spends half an hour at the gym every day. Gaining weight within a week was indeed puzzling.
"Gained weight?" Ji Rui himself was a bit surprised.
"Yes, both you and Baobao, I made the sizes slightly bigger. Luckily, I was mindful enough, otherwise these outfits would have been wasted."
Baobao, dressed in his little formal suit, walked over to Le Tong, patting his deliberately protruding belly mischievously, "Mommy, Uncle said Baobao gained weight, come and feel..."
Le Tong laughed as she playfully patted his round little belly, "Aw, this little pig has fattened up, ready to be sold off."
Baobao laughed heartily, jumping away and ran to Ji Rui’s side, patting his belly.
"This big pig is the one that’s fattened up, Mommy, you’d better sell him!"
Ji Rui ground his teeth playfully and pinched the little guy’s cheek, "Daddy is too expensive, nobody can afford him except your mommy!"
His comment reminded Le Tong of the penny in his drawer and his joke about "selling himself."
Unable to help herself, she teased him, "Really? How come I remember someone being quite worthless?"
Ji Rui glanced at her, "Now I understand the saying about getting something for free and still complaining!"
Le Tong smugly raised her eyebrows at him, "You’ve already been tricked onto this pirate ship. Now that you know, nothing can change it!"
Baobao hugged Ji Rui’s waist, backing up Le Tong, "Yeah yeah, Daddy, you’re on this pirate ship, you old pirate!"
"Silly boy, if Daddy’s the old pirate, then you’re the little pirate. Real promising!"
Their playful banter made the designer, who was making minor adjustments to everyone’s outfits nearby, chuckle and laugh.
"Mr. Ji, I now understand why you and Baobao gained weight!
"Eating a lot, isn’t that what pigs do?" Le Tong jested.
The designer struggled to suppress a laugh, putting on a serious face, "It’s because you’re carefree, so you’re gaining weight!"
In the afternoon, Ji Rui and Le Tong divided their tasks, Ji Rui drove Baobao to Xu Tao’s place, while Le Tong went to the Luo Family to assist Luo Yuanyuan in preparing for the wedding tomorrow.
Although Ji Rui now has a son, due to the peculiar circumstances of Baobao’s birth and not being married, he knows nothing about wedding customs.
So, when Luo Yuanyuan asked him via video to take Baobao to Xu Tao’s house today, he was actually reluctant.
However, considering Le Tong’s close relationship with Luo Yuanyuan, and as it’s a significant occasion for Luo Yuanyuan, he agreed promptly, despite his reluctance.
Luo Yuanyuan seemed to understand what he was thinking, smiling slyly with narrowed eyes, "Mr. Ji, aren’t you and Tongtong about to get married too? Isn’t it good to get familiar with the process earlier?"
Ji Rui felt a bit tempted by her words, inadvertently ignoring what Luo Yuanyuan said afterward.
When it was time to set off, Ji Rui saw that not only was Le Tong carrying the dress she was going to wear the next day, but she also had an additional backpack. Upon asking, he found out that Le Tong planned to stay at the Luo Family’s place with Luo Yuanyuan tonight.
"Why?" Ji Rui was a bit displeased, feeling as if his person was accidentally snatched away.
"It’s the custom, don’t you know? Tomorrow they won’t be single anymore, tonight’s for the soon-to-be bride and groom to have fun!" Le Tong somewhat doubted if President Ji was from Mars.
Ji Rui’s gaze suddenly became dangerous, "Hmm?! What kind of fun are you guys planning to have?!"
Le Tong realized the situation was a tad delicate, understanding a certain trigger in the man had been accidentally set off. If she truly wished to accompany Luo Yuanyuan tonight, she’d need to first appease the seemingly ready-to-erupt dragon right in front of her.
"Where could we go for fun? Even if Yuan’er is the playful type, Uncle Luo wouldn’t allow her to be outrageous. Don’t worry, I’ll stay obediently at the Luo Family’s place and won’t go anywhere!"
Actually, Le Tong’s words carried a serious ambiguity, as the Luo Family’s place is so large that you could have fun however you wanted without needing to go out to be outrageous.
But, Ji Rui trusted Le Tong too much, hence upon hearing her assurance, he somehow felt relieved.
