Chapter 505 - 504: If She Agrees to Marry, I Don’t Mind (Second Update)
Le Tong was talking about Yang Sheng, and within a couple of days, Yang Sheng called Ji Rui.When Ji Rui’s phone rang, Le Tong was working overtime with Ji Rui in the study; Ji Rui exchanged a few words with Yang Sheng before hanging up and switching to video chat.
"Oh, Tongtong, my little junior, you’ve gotten prettier!" said Yang Sheng, teasing her with a smile as soon as he saw Le Tong.
Le Tong smiled back, "Should I call you President Yang or Senior Brother?"
Because she had just heard Ji Rui calling the other party President Yang, it seemed Senior Brother had finally come through his struggles.
"Call me Senior Brother!" Yang Sheng glared at her, then looked at Ji Rui, who was holding her, "Rui, when are you planning to marry my junior sister?"
Ji Rui glanced sideways at him, "What’s it to you?"
Yang Sheng chuckled mischievously, "Of course, I need to care; once you’re married, you’ll have to call me Senior Brother just like Tongtong does!"
Ji Rui snorted coldly, "Dream on!"
"Of course, not taking advantage would be foolish, right?"
The two men bantered with great enjoyment, while Le Tong carefully scrutinized Yang Sheng on the screen.
On the whole, Yang Sheng’s face seemed thinner than when he left, but his beautiful peach blossom eyes were bright and spirited, and he looked quite lively. It seemed the rumored troubles had all been resolved.
"Have you resolved everything over there?"
Ji Rui’s question made Le Tong perk up her ears.
"Yeah, almost; the old man has decided to retire."
"Oh? So does that mean we really have to call you President Yang now?"
Ji Rui’s lips curved up, and a subtle smile appeared on his face.
He and Yang Sheng were like brothers; their relationship was somewhat similar to the sisterly bond between Le Tong and Yuan’er, perhaps even deeper than theirs.
After all, they had been through many trials and tribulations together, and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say they’ve lived through life and death together.
"Soon!" Yang Sheng nodded with a smile.
Different from when he left, this time his eyebrows and eyes were completely clear, and the dark clouds that had been on his face vanished at some unknown time.
It seemed he had gone from being utterly helpless to cheerfully accepting the task of returning to the Yang Family to lead the Yang Empire.
"Could it be you’re inviting us to attend your takeover ceremony this time?" Ji Rui suddenly became eerily perceptive.
"Hm? You’ve heard that already?" Yang Sheng appeared quite surprised.
"No way; I just guessed."
Though Ji Rui told Le Tong he couldn’t help Yang Sheng much, secretly, he had always been keeping an eye on the happenings with the Yang Family. If the old man did anything too outrageous, he would step in to help.
However, Yang Sheng was not someone who could easily be defeated. Despite facing many dangers along the way, he always managed to turn the tide at the crucial moment.
Reportedly, the Yang elder had gone from initial skepticism about Yang Sheng as the new successor to being extremely pleased now.
"Congratulations, Senior Brother! Have you set the date yet?"
This Sunday is Yuan’er’s big day; hopefully, they don’t coincide.
"Next Saturday! You three must come!"
"Senior Brother, look at what you’re saying! You’re a dignified President Yang now; of course, I have to bring Baobao and come to enjoy your hospitality, right?" Le Tong agreed with a smile.
Ji Rui held Le Tong and responded, "Wherever Le Tong goes, I go; count me in for freeloading the food and stay."
Yang Sheng cast a disdainful glance at Ji Rui, "People say, ’marry a chicken, follow a chicken.’ Mr. Ji, are you marrying Tongtong now?"
Ji Rui kissed Le Tong on the cheek, saying naturally, "As long as she’s willing, I don’t mind."
Yang Sheng snorted, "President Ji, would you die if you didn’t show off your love?"
Le Tong’s skin had also thickened considerably now; listening to the two men use her as a topic for teasing back and forth, she leaned contentedly on Ji Rui, listening to their banter.
If Ji Rui always put on a cold face of silence in front of others, he only became talkative and sarcastic when facing Baobao, her, and Yang Sheng, with the expressions on his face changing accordingly.
The two joked around a bit, and somehow the topic shifted to work.
Speaking of work, their expressions turned more serious.
"Rui, after I returned, I submitted a cooperation proposal with the Ji Family, but my grandfather has been refusing. I’m sorry!"
Le Tong was slightly surprised; she had never heard Yang Sheng mention this.
But Ji Rui, upon hearing this, remained calm; it seemed he was somewhat aware of the matter.
"What’s there to be sorry about? The Ji and Yang Families have never had a precedent for cooperation, and you might not know, but if you trace back to my grandfather and even further, there was a fierce struggle between the families that ended in mutual destruction, allowing small merchants to seize the opportunity like the saying ’the sandpiper and the clam fight, and the fisherman benefits.’ Ultimately, both suffered heavy losses and wisely agreed to ceasefire, establishing an agreement for the families to conduct businesses separately, with the south and north as boundaries, and no crossing over allowed."
Yang Sheng listened with a slight daze, evidently unaware of these old events.
"I wasn’t planning on doing business in each other’s territory..."
"I know!" Ji Rui interrupted him, "You’re thinking of the Yang and Ji Families joining forces to enter the European and American markets, right?"
"Yes, that’s indeed what I’m thinking. The Yang Family’s century-old foundation has reached a bottleneck, and if we don’t expand into new markets, we’ll slowly decline."
Yang Sheng candidly shared his inner thoughts, after all, he and Ji Rui were too familiar with each other. Their thoughts and actions were always similar and in perfect sync.
"You should hold off on this plan for now! I think your grandfather’s refusal isn’t due to lack of business potential in your suggestion, but rather because of the Ji Family’s lawsuit in Y Country. Currently, if the Yang Family were to rashly cooperate with the Ji Family, it would be akin to sharing half the risk; your grandfather, as the head of the Yang Family, is naturally right to refuse, and if I were him, I’d make the same decision."
Le Tong wouldn’t truly know the depth of the bond between these two men unless she sat beside Ji Rui and heard this conversation firsthand.
Yang Sheng’s goodness towards Ji Rui wasn’t ordinary!
And Ji Rui seemed to reciprocate equally!
Who could believe it was mere ordinary feelings when they would do this much for each other?
What significant events did these two men go through together in the past for their bond to be deep enough to discard monetary interests?
Le Tong was full of doubts, yet sensibly remained silent without investigating further.
Since neither Ji Rui nor Yang Sheng mentioned it in front of her, perhaps it was pain both were unwilling to touch.
