Chapter 484 - 483: Are you going to write me a love letter?

Chapter 484 - 483: Are you going to write me a love letter?

Even though it’s a routine check, the people in the finance department still have a lot of work to do. Le Tong, though she couldn’t help much, proactively stayed to work overtime. In the afternoon, she called Xiao Li, asking him to pick up Baobao from school.

Soon, Xiao Li called back, "Miss Le, I’ve arrived at the kindergarten and ran into Old Ji coming to see Baobao. What do you think..."

The relationship between Mr. Ji and Le Tong wasn’t great, and most of the Ji Family’s drivers and bodyguards knew this, so Xiao Li wasn’t sure whether Le Tong would allow Mr. Ji to meet Baobao alone.

"Brother Li, ask Baobao what he wants. If he wants to go back to the mansion with his grandpa, let him stay there for the night. I have work to do here, and I’d feel more at ease if he goes back to the mansion."

Baobao is quite independent, and Aunt Guan can take good care of him alone. Le Tong was suggesting this mainly because she wanted Baobao to spend some time with Mr. Ji.

Put yourself in someone else’s shoes— if she were Mr. Ji’s age, she would certainly want her children and grandchildren to occasionally keep her company.

She could truly feel the old man’s love for Baobao. Though there were significant differences and conflicts between her and Mr. Ji, such matters were adult issues and shouldn’t bind or influence Baobao.

"Hold on a moment, I’ll let Baobao talk to you himself." Xiao Li, naturally, didn’t dare to make the decision himself.

After a short while, Baobao’s faintly panting voice came through the receiver, "Mommy!"

"Baobao, Mommy has to work overtime tonight and won’t be home until late. Do you want Aunt Guan to stay with you at home, or do you want to go to the mansion with Grandpa?"

"Grandpa is sitting next to me. Mommy, do you have to work overtime again? Aren’t you tired?"

The little guy didn’t directly answer Le Tong’s question; it seemed he cared more about her working overtime than which home he would return to.

Her darling son cared so much about her that Le Tong felt sweet in her heart, "Mommy’s not tired. I should be home around nine. Do you want to go back and stay with Grandpa?"

Le Tong felt Mr. Ji was rather pitiful. At his age, despite having a large family, he had no one by his side. Even when he was injured, he was alone.

On the other end, the little one deliberated for a moment before saying, "I want to go to Grandpa’s, but I miss Mommy too. Can you come to the mansion after work?"

This request from Baobao made Le Tong quite conflicted.

Her relationship with Mr. Ji had improved, but they hadn’t completely reconciled.

"Then why don’t you stay with Grandpa tonight? Mommy has a lot of work and might not be able to be with you. Once I’m done with this busy period, Daddy and Mommy can take you camping, okay?"

"Okay... Mommy, don’t stay up too late..." The little guy’s tone was deeply reluctant and disappointed.

After settling Baobao’s arrangements, Le Tong went to work with peace of mind.

She worked overtime with the finance department’s staff until after nine and then went home.

After showering and holding the noodles Aunt Guan cooked for her, she sat in the living room, turned on the TV, and watched while Aunt Guan folded clothes beside her.

The TV was playing a family drama, the usual clichéd plot of a wife and mistress fighting.

"This wife is quite pitiful..." Aunt Guan said, focused on the TV while her hands were busy.

"Everyone pitiful has a reason to be hateful. The mistress is definitely wrong, but the wife also has some issues."

Le Tong never had any interest in such dramas; with just a glance, she found the wife weak and humble like a slave, unable to lift her head even in front of the mistress.

Aunt Guan, however, was not at all influenced by Le Tong, watching with great interest.

Le Tong, not really hungry after having some dinner in her lunchbox, took only a few bites of noodles before putting down the bowl and heading to the study to finish her work.

As soon as she sat down, the phone rang. It was Ji Rui.

"Just got home?" Ji Rui had called her in the evening, but Le Tong was so busy then she could only say, "I’m really busy, if there’s nothing urgent, I’ll call you back when I get home," and hung up on him.

"No, I’ve already showered and had a late snack," she replied truthfully while turning on the computer.

"How about the kid, asleep?" Ji Rui’s voice carried a hint of a smile.

"Probably. He went to the mansion to stay with his grandpa today," Le Tong didn’t hide it.

Ji Rui paused—perhaps he was a bit surprised.

"Did he insist on going? That cheeky kid!" His tone carried a sense of frustration.

"No, he didn’t insist. His grandpa went to see him at school today, and since I was busy, I asked if he wanted to stay with Grandpa, and he said he did, so I let him go."

Not wanting Ji Rui to overthink, Le Tong explained the whole story voluntarily.

"Le Tong, if you’re not comfortable, you could let Baobao say no."

As of now, Ji Rui had no intention of helping mend the rift between Mr. Ji and Le Tong. He felt that she had endured too much grievance and criticism from Mr. Ji. Even if she wouldn’t forgive him, Ji Rui would support and understand her.

"Ji Rui, Baobao has the right and the ability to make his own decisions."

Le Tong didn’t want to force her grievances and emotions onto Baobao. As a mother, she hoped he could have a complete life with complete family and love.

"Alright then..." Ji Rui replied reluctantly, but clearly, he would respect Le Tong’s decision.

"Ji Rui, I discovered something really interesting today!" Le Tong wanted to change the subject away from Baobao and Mr. Ji and switched to another topic that still made her want to laugh.

"Hmm?! What interesting thing?"

The man on the other end seemed utterly clueless.

Le Tong’s lips involuntarily curved into a wide smile. Originally, she planned to act like she knew nothing. After all, the man was so narcissistic and proud; finding out about those secrets might embarrass him.

But suddenly, she felt an urge to tease him.

"Didn’t I open your drawer today? Guess what I found?"

Le Tong playfully hinted at Ji Rui, lounging back comfortably in her chair, utterly relaxed and at ease.

"What? Aren’t there just some files in the drawer? What’s so interesting about them? Could there be a love letter hidden in there?"

Pfft!

Le Tong hadn’t expected Ji Rui to have such a sense of humor, "Be honest, do you often receive love letters in your files?"

"Actually no, but you could write one for me as a surprise!"

"Oh, stop it. You wish for me to write you a love letter! Dream on!" Le Tong, having received quite a few love letters herself, never tried writing one to someone.

She hadn’t even had the chance to experience the youthful flutter of romance!

"Alright, if you won’t write one for me, I’ll write one for you. How about that?" Ji Rui’s voice was filled with an increasing warmth.
