Chapter 483 - 482: The Reserved President Ji
Although Le Tong had promised Ji Rui that if she was really busy, she would let Baobao stay at home, she felt that since Baobao had been recuperating at home for several months, she hoped he could return to kindergarten to play with other kids if his health allowed. Therefore, even when Ji Rui was not around, she still got up early in the morning to prepare breakfast, took Baobao to kindergarten, and then went to work at the Ji Family as usual.
As soon as Le Tong returned to the Ji Family, the people from the accounting department pulled her aside, saying that the tax office had called and they would come for an inspection tomorrow.
Having been with the Ji Family for more than a year, Le Tong knew that the tax office conducted routine inspections on some units every year. She asked Minister Yu from the accounting department, who said they hadn’t been told explicitly, so it was unknown whether it was a routine inspection. Therefore, after receiving the notification, everyone in the finance department immediately went into full alert mode.
Le Tong communicated with Minister Yu, asking her to proceed as per the usual routine inspection procedures while she planned to call the tax office later to get a clear understanding of the situation.
Most of the employees in the finance department were old hands, very experienced, and began working in an orderly fashion once instructed. Le Tong gave her instructions and then turned to return to the top-floor office.
Le Tong called an acquaintance at the tax office, exchanged a few pleasantries, and then casually mentioned how busy her colleagues in the finance department had been these past few days. The other party understood and laughed, saying that every finance department was quite busy at this time of the year.
After hanging up, Le Tong called the finance department and told Minister Yu to take it easy; it was just a routine check.
Minister Yu visibly breathed a sigh of relief, "That’s good. By the way, Tongtong, did Mr. Ji pass on the monthly reports I submitted a few days ago to you?"
"No, didn’t you say it wasn’t urgent? He probably plans to give them to you when he returns." Because Mr. Ji suddenly got injured and hospitalized, Ji Rui was busy running between the hospital and the Ji Family before going abroad, handling only the urgent matters, and probably hadn’t had time to look at the reports mentioned by Minister Yu.
"It wasn’t urgent originally, but we need them now. Tongtong, could you get them for me?"
This was something Ji Rui had not instructed, so the reports were naturally not in Le Tong’s possession.
"Alright, I’ll go ask Mr. Ji."
Le Tong checked the time—it was just after 9 a.m. In Y Country where Ji Rui was, it would be a bit past 1 a.m. It was quite possible that he was already asleep at this hour.
But Minister Yu urgently needed these reports, so after hesitating for a moment, Le Tong decided to find Ji Rui’s number and dial it.
The phone rang twice and was picked up, "Le Tong? Is there something you need?"
Ji Rui’s voice was clear, not sounding as if he had been awakened.
"You’re not asleep yet?" Le Tong asked, feeling a bit uneasy.
"No, why?" His voice, still deep and steady, came through the phone to Le Tong.
"The tax office is coming for their routine inspection tomorrow. Minister Yu mentioned she had submitted a few monthly reports to you a few days ago and needs them now. Where did you put them?"
Ji Rui usually had his documents and files neatly categorized. Really important ones were kept in the safe, less important ones locked in a drawer, and ordinary materials placed on the corner of his desk.
"They’re locked in the second drawer on the right. The smallest silver key in the bunch of keys I gave you should be the one."
After confirming, Le Tong didn’t bother to chat with Ji Rui further and quickly hung up. She retrieved the keys Ji Rui had left her from her bag, found the small silver one, and opened the drawer.
The large drawer was divided into four sections: one with some small miscellaneous items like key rings and nail clippers, and another on the top had a photo of Baobao placed on it.
Le Tong hadn’t seen that photo before. Curious, she wanted to have a look, but reason held her curiosity in check as she pulled the drawer open a bit wider to remove the thick stack of files inside. She quickly found the monthly reports Minister Yu had referred to.
Le Tong delivered the reports to the finance department and, upon returning to her desk, dealt with some work. Her mind drifted back to that photo in Ji Rui’s drawer, and she couldn’t resist opening the drawer again to examine the photo closely.
Initially, Le Tong was quite certain that the chubby boy in the photo was Baobao. But recalling the childhood photos of Ji Rui she had seen at the Ji Family mansion, and comparing them to the black-and-white photo in her hand, Le Tong grew less certain.
So, to verify whether the photo was of Ji Rui or Baobao, Le Tong sifted through the photos below and surprisingly found a familiar envelope.
Le Tong’s eyelid twitched—she recognized this envelope. Wasn’t this the one she had angrily sent over a year ago when she was forced to leave?
Surprised and curious, Le Tong pried open the envelope with a finger, tilting her head to peer inside. There seemed to be something inside it.
Le Tong had thought that someone like Ji Rui would have destroyed the letter with utter fury upon seeing it!
Using her fingers, Le Tong extracted the folded paper, unfolded it, and found her resignation letter. As the paper unfurled, two small notes fluttered down onto the desk. Le Tong glanced down and couldn’t help but chuckle, "Pfft!"
Turns out, lying on the desk was, among other things, was the one-cent coin she had impulsively attached to her resignation letter in a fit of anger!
The other note was a slip where she had boldly written "The service that night was excellent, here’s a tip!" At the bottom was her angrily scrawled large signature "Le Tong"!
Le Tong laughed almost uncontrollably, leaning on the desk with the resignation letter in one hand and holding the tiny coin and the note in the other, wondering if this man was a masochist?
Or perhaps he kept these as a reminder to himself to exact revenge and give her a merciless lesson if he ever got her back?
Considering this possibility, the smiling Le Tong couldn’t help but shiver.
Initially, she only intended to look at a photo, but this discovery piqued Le Tong’s intense curiosity, prompting her to delve further into the drawer’s contents, whereupon she unexpectedly found a wad of cash.
The wad of cash, compared to Ji Rui’s income, was nothing more than loose change, which might explain why it was casually tossed aside. However, what puzzled Le Tong was that Ji Rui was very particular and didn’t have the habit of leaving loose change lying around. His money was always kept in his wallet.
Driven by curiosity, Le Tong picked up the wad of cash and counted it—it totaled eight hundred and eighty yuan.
Eight hundred and eighty...
The amount seemed rather familiar.
Wait, could this be the flower money he gave her the first time, and she had returned it because she didn’t want to jeopardize their superior-subordinate relationship?
Le Tong remembered Ji Rui’s surprised and disgruntled expression when she threw the money back at him, and she couldn’t help but laugh again. She counted the money carefully, confirming that it indeed amounted to eight hundred and eighty yuan!
Haha, who knew that secretly President Ji was not only a scoundrel but also quite stealthy?!
