Treasure Hunt: Tycoon's Priceless Runaway Wife

Chapter 434: Not Optimistic

Chapter 434: Not Optimistic

The taste of the soup was a bit bitter and tart, to be honest, it wasn’t very pleasant to drink. But thinking about how it was Le Tong’s meticulous effort that went into making it, Ji Rui drank it all with an expression of enjoyment.

Originally, he was worried about what strange concoction this so-called tonic soup of Le Tong’s could be and whether it would have any odd effects after drinking it.

But that night, to his surprise, he who hadn’t slept well for several days slept particularly soundly.

The next day, Ji Rui was awakened by Baobao’s little fingers squeezing his nose.

"Lazy pig, time to get up!"

Ji Rui opened his eyes to Baobao’s bright smiling face sitting cross-legged on top of him.

"Morning, Baobao!"

Ji Rui grabbed Baobao’s back and pressed the little one down onto himself, giving a few playful kisses on those chubby cheeks.

"Daddy, it’s not early anymore, the sun’s already shining on your bum!"

Baobao rubbed his eyes with his hands and made a face at him.

Ji Rui lifted his wrist to check the time, and to his surprise, it was almost eleven o’clock; he had slept for ten hours.

"Where’s mommy?"

Ji Rui picked up Baobao by the waist and got out of bed.

"Mommy is making breakfast. Are you going to help, Daddy?"

"Sure, I’ll come after I brush my teeth."

Ji Rui put Baobao down and went to the bathroom. As he was squeezing toothpaste, he caught a glimpse of the little guy lingering by the door.

"Something on your mind?" Ji Rui glanced askance at the little one and stuffed the toothbrush into his mouth.

"Yuanyuan is getting married..." The little guy’s eyes showed a bit of disdain as well as a hint of contempt.

Ji Rui paused, spat out the foam in his mouth, and rinsed it with water.

"Who told you? Grandpa?"

Ji Rui assumed the Luo Family had already announced the news.

Baobao shook his head, "No, it’s Yuanyuan who told me. She even asked me to be her flower girl."

"Did you agree?"

"Yes, but actually, I’d rather be the flower girl at Daddy and Mommy’s wedding," Baobao murmured softly, eyes fixed on Ji Rui for a while before asking, "Daddy, when are you and Mommy getting married?"

Ji Rui’s eyes dimmed as he tousled Baobao’s head, "Daddy will try his best!"

How he wished he could marry Le Tong soon! However, the current issues with the Ji Family were uncertain as to how long they’d last, and his personal matters with her would have to be set aside for the moment.

"Oh well..."

Baobao’s face fell instantly, revealing his disappointment as he turned away dejectedly.

Feeling guilty, Ji Rui bent down to splash a handful of cold water on his face. With the efforts of the past few days, the domestic situation was temporarily under control, but without a resolution and agreement with the industry alliance from Y Country soon, the domestic situation was bound to deteriorate again.

This grim situation hadn’t been discussed with Le Tong, but someone with her intellect likely already guessed as much.

After finishing his grooming, Ji Rui changed into casual wear and entered the kitchen. Le Tong, with her back to him, was stir-frying something, with rich aromas filling the air, making Ji Rui’s stomach growl.

"Need any help?"

Ji Rui approached, gently wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his chin on her slender shoulder.

Hearing the noise behind her, Le Tong did not have time to turn her head as she was hugged by him. Hearing his offer to help in her ear, Le Tong slightly turned her head to glance at him, "No need, how did you sleep last night?"

Ji Rui nodded, giving her a kiss on the cheek, "Of course well, I slept ten hours, you didn’t even wake me."

"You probably haven’t slept well these past few days. The soup from yesterday was a dietary remedy from an old herbalist at the pharmacy, meant to calm and aid sleep. You seem more energetic, I’ll make another pot for you tonight."

In just a few days, Ji Rui seemed to have lost weight. Although he still appeared spirited, the fatigue inadvertently shown indicated to Le Tong that he was about to be overwhelmed by the immense pressure he was under. Seeing him like this pained Le Tong, and when she visited the pharmacy yesterday, she briefly described Ji Rui’s situation to the old herbalist there, who scribbled a prescription and handed it to the clerk. Without thinking, Le Tong asked for a five-day supply.

Ji Rui then realized his restful sleep last night was all thanks to her loving essence in that broth.

"It really worked well, make more tonight. You should have some too." Ji Rui held her tight without any intention of letting go.

"I won’t. It’s specifically for men as a dietary remedy."

Chatting with Ji Rui, Le Tong methodically transferred the cooked meat onto a plate, washed the pan, reheated it, added oil and garlic, and began stir-frying another dish.

Ji Rui freed up a hand to take the plate of meat and suddenly remembered the words Doctor Dong had said when Baobao was not yet discharged.

"Your body isn’t in great shape either; why not have that old herbalist prescribe some tonics for you too?"

Ji Rui knew several renowned herbalists, and while asking this, he started planning to take Baobao to the hospital for a check-up later and also take Le Tong to see a well-known herbalist he knew to get her diagnosed and prescribed herbal medicine to improve her health.

Le Tong didn’t feel there was anything wrong with her health, "Who says I’m unwell? I’m perfectly fine!"

"Go ahead, boast all you want!" Ji Rui said, clearly not believing Le Tong.

"Who’s boasting? I’ve been at the Ji Family for so long, have I ever been sick?"

Ji Rui pinched her waist, "Who said you haven’t? Wasn’t it my dear secretary who fainted in the office from a high fever?"

Remembering how she collapsed back then, Ji Rui still felt a lingering fear.

"Ugh..." Feeling a bit smug, Le Tong had indeed forgotten about that incident.

"It’s settled then; after the check-up with Baobao, I’ll take you to see the herbalist I introduced to you last time." Ji Rui made the decision without leaving room for Le Tong to argue.

Baobao’s examination took longer this time. After more than two hours of comprehensive tests, Baobao had already fallen asleep.

"Mr. Ji, Tongtong, Baobao has recovered very well. If he’s going back to kindergarten, remember to remind him to avoid getting injured." Dr. Dong said this, implying Baobao was allowed to return to school.

After leaving the hospital, following Ji Rui’s instructions, Xiao Li drove to the herbalist’s residence.

The herbalist was seated by the stone table in the flower courtyard, sipping tea while diagnosing Le Tong. After asking her a bunch of questions, he gently touched her wrist to feel her pulse.

Initially, the herbalist’s expression was still very relaxed, but after feeling the pulse for a while, his white eyebrows gradually furrowed.

"Mr. Ji, Miss Le’s health condition is not optimistic."
