Chapter 433: Borrowing Intoxication to Act
Chapter 433: Borrowing Intoxication to Act
A group of directors, their faces awkward after Ji Rui’s speech, quickly stirred up different voices in the meeting room, flattering, reflecting, pledging allegiance, making Le Tong, who was sitting next to Ji Rui, unable to resist giving Ji Rui a thumbs up under the table.Dominating!
Le Tong silently said two words to Ji Rui, who curled his lips into a faint smile and spoke to the crowd again.
"From this, it seems that all of you directors still have a lot of trust in Ji. If so, I hope you’ll proceed to invest the necessary funds to stabilize the market as per my requirements. We’re all on the same boat now—if the ship sinks, we’re all going down together, wouldn’t you agree?"
As Ji Rui spoke, he winked at Le Tong, who swiftly sent out a list, prepared in advance by Ji Rui and showing the corresponding amounts, to each director’s email.
"Ji Rui, it seems the directors are quite scared of you." Back in the office, as soon as the door closed, Le Tong said to Ji Rui.
The prestige of a person is often more vividly revealed in adversity.
"Those old foxes never do stupid things like throwing away a watermelon to pick up a sesame seed!"
With Ji Rui’s words, Le Tong could determine, for the time being, that Ji Rui was capable of and confident in handling domestic situations.
"I’ll go to a few major banks later; you take care of company matters. Don’t wait for me for lunch."
Ji Rui took the documents Le Tong handed over and turned to take several confidential files from the safe and put them into his briefcase.
"Okay, will you be back for dinner?" Le Tong gazed at Ji Rui’s slightly slimmed yet still spirited face.
"I’ll call you!" Ji Rui lowered his head, preparing the materials needed to go out.
"Your health hasn’t fully recovered, so take care and try not to drink alcohol."
Le Tong watched him with heartache, softly reminding him.
"I will!" Ji Rui raised his hand to tousle her hair. "Don’t worry, I’ll have Xiao Li following me. If necessary, let him shield me."
Le Tong finally felt a bit more at ease, taking out headache and stomach pain medicine she specially prepared for Ji Rui from her bag and handed it to him. "Take these along, just in case."
Ji Rui silently took them and placed them into the side pocket of the bag.
By late afternoon, Ji Rui still hadn’t returned, so Le Tong took Baobao and left work first.
On the road, Le Tong finally received a message from Ji Rui.
"There’s a business dinner tonight, I won’t be back for dinner."
Le Tong asked the driver to stop in front of a pharmacy, went in to buy some medicinal ingredients, returned home, and while preparing dinner, she stewed the tonic soup.
"Come over and have soup after the business dinner, I’ll wait for you."
Le Tong did not know that this wait would last until nearly midnight.
The doorbell rang, and Le Tong, who had been sitting on the sofa, almost ran to open the door.
"Sorry to keep you waiting so late."
The moment the man came in, he reached out and embraced the woman standing in front, lowered his head to kiss her hair, and whispered apologies.
Le Tong slightly tilted her head, sniffed, then frowned, "Drank quite a lot, didn’t you?"
Ji Rui touched her face, changed shoes, and walked with her into the living room.
"Not a lot, but, truth be told, drank rather mixed—red, white, yellow, all kinds."
Le Tong took his bag and coat, turned her back to him, and hung them up. "Go take a shower first. Besides the soup, I saved some food for you. Want to eat?"
"Won’t it be a bother?" Ji Rui raised his hand to unbutton his cuffs, his gaze following Le Tong around.
"Bother? It’s kept for you; just heat it up and you can eat."
Le Tong turned around, handed a bunch of keys to Ji Rui. "Here are the keys, take them."
Ji Rui looked at her in surprise, knowing how long he had waited for this moment.
"Thank you!" Ji Rui leaned over and gave her a gentle kiss on her lips.
"Silly! It’s just a set of keys, not a house!" Le Tong smiled, playfully tapping the man’s chest.
Ji Rui smiled without speaking; he knew better than anyone that this set of keys meant she no longer considered him an outsider, and he could freely come and go at any time.
Moreover, this set of keys might be more accurately described as a key to her heart than to an apartment.
"Go shower soon; why are you smiling foolishly? You’re not drunk, are you?"
Le Tong moved closer, blinked, and carefully scrutinized his face.
"Yeah, very drunk!"
Ji Rui hadn’t intended to do anything to her, but seeing her lean in on her own, it would be too ungentlemanly not to do something.
With a playful look in his eyes, Ji Rui gazed at her and said, "Forgive my drunken mischief, okay?" Before she could respond, he lowered his head and kissed her lips.
The light aroma of alcohol transferred from his lips to her mouth; soon, Le Tong felt dizzy and her heart raced terribly. Perhaps she, like him, was quite intoxicated too!
This lingering kiss lasted several minutes before Ji Rui released Le Tong, who clung onto him as if all her strength had been drained, her chest heaving with rapid breath.
"I’m going to shower, want to join?" Ji Rui’s eyes gleamed with a spark, though his tone was clearly teasing.
The oxygen-deprived and blushing Le Tong raised her eyelids to glare at him and gave him a kick, not hiding her irritation.
"Get lost!"
This man was absolutely the epitome of taking advantage shamelessly.
Ji Rui chuckled and gave her pouting lips a peck, swiftly turning to the bedroom.
By the time Le Tong collected herself, the man had already disappeared into the bedroom.
Ji Rui returned with his head turned, towel drying his hair, seeing a few small plates of meat and vegetables and a bowl of steaming soup placed on the coffee table.
Seeing that only one set of dishes was on the coffee table, Ji Rui asked, "You’re not eating?"
Le Tong was holding a book, "No, I’m on a diet."
Ji Rui, glancing at her thin figure, frowned, "Dieting? You’ll get so thin you’ll hurt to touch!"
Le Tong shot him a sideways glance, angrily humming, "Hurt you?"
Ji Rui bent down and gently hugged her, "No! But you being a bit chubbier would be nice, you’re softer and more comfortable to hold."
Though the drunken night where the two shared tender passion was over a year ago, Ji Rui still remembered it clearly. At that time, she was soft and warm to hold. And now she’s light as a feather—not exactly painful to touch, but her frailness, the feeling that she might break at any moment, made holding her poignant.
Le Tong slightly struggled in his arms, "You like chubby ones? I’ll get you a pig tomorrow then!"
Ji Rui was amused by her disgruntled remark, lightly laughing, released her, kissed her nose, and smiled drolly.
"If it’s you, being a pig is fine."
Le Tong rolled her eyes at him, "You’re the pig, hurry and eat; the soup and dishes are getting cold!"
Obediently, Ji Rui picked up the bowl and took a sip of the soup, its peculiar taste making him frown.
"Uh, what soup is this?"
"Super tonic!" Le Tong winked at him, smiling mischievously.
