Chapter 383: Mom, this is your grandson (Second Update)
"Rui, aren’t you leaving together?"Ji Rui didn’t directly answer him, instead, he looked at Le Tong, "Can I stay in the guest room tonight?"
Yang Sheng was taken aback for a moment, then wore an expression anticipating a good show.
Le Tong was also stunned for a moment. After realizing, seemingly wanting to shake her head, Ji Rui quickly and sincerely explained his reason for staying.
"I want to push through the Tai Cheng Group’s proposal in the next couple of days. The commuting back and forth takes too much time, so can I stay?"
This important proposal indeed needed urgent attention. Before Le Tong could respond, Yang Sheng had already sided with Ji Rui.
"If I’m not mistaken, Tongtong handled many parts of that proposal, Rui, staying here would indeed be more convenient for you."
According to these two men, if she refused, she’d become someone who didn’t understand the bigger picture.
"Senior brother, I’ll send you off!" Le Tong stood up.
Ji Rui immediately understood, she had agreed.
The man who had been glued to the sofa immediately jumped up, assuming the role of host, "I’ll see you off then!"
Le Tong, not wanting to deal with these two men any longer, saw that Baobao had finished his juice, and led him to take a bath.
After Baobao finished his bath and went straight to bed, once he was asleep, Le Tong got up, walked out, and gently closed the door.
The man sitting on the sofa tapping away at the keyboard looked up and softly asked, "Is he asleep?"
Le Tong nodded, ignored Ji Rui, walked into the kitchen, sorted out the pile of offerings and ingredients she had bought earlier, and began to prepare some of the food for tomorrow’s picnic.
"Le Tong, can you come out and help me for a bit?"
Ji Rui’s voice came through, and Le Tong put down what she was doing and walked out.
"Mr. Ji, let me get my laptop."
Le Tong, while wiping her hands with a towel, headed straight to the bedroom.
"Just come over and take a look, no need to get the laptop."
He wouldn’t say this if it wasn’t a big deal.
Le Tong turned around and walked over. Ji Rui had already placed the laptop on the coffee table. The two sat next to each other on the sofa, almost head to head, eyes fixed on the computer screen.
"How do you see the budget cost of Tai Cheng Group?"
Le Tong didn’t immediately answer. Her fingers pressed the scroll key, quickly scanning through the previous information.
"Hmm, it’s much lower than our anticipated cost and industry standards? Right?"
Ji Rui nodded, "If done strictly according to our requirements, this cost would be impossible!"
Le Tong frowned, scrolling down two more pages.
"Mr. Ji, are you saying that the low cost mentioned in the Tai Cheng plan can only be achieved by cutting corners?"
Ji Rui nodded, "Yes."
For this proposal, the two worked until nearly midnight, finally sorting out a heap of issues.
"Mr. Ji, Tai Cheng has been cooperating with us for four years already, right?"
Initially, Le Tong thought the proposal only had minor issues needing discussion, but now it seemed these problems couldn’t be solved by mere discussion.
"What do you mean?"
Ji Rui looked at her with interest, seemingly waiting for her to continue.
"From how I see it, it seems they are intentionally trying to mess up this proposal?"
Having worked beside Ji Rui for over a year, Le Tong understood a lot about business costs and processes, and it wasn’t difficult to identify the issues within this proposal using her standards.
This time, Ji Rui didn’t say a word, neither affirming nor denying, maybe leaving Le Tong some space for thought.
After a while, Ji Rui looked away from the screen and at Le Tong, "It’s late, go shower and sleep."
He didn’t mention a word about how to finally handle this proposal.
Standing under the shower in the bedroom, Le Tong thought as she showered, feeling something was suspicious, yet unable to pinpoint exactly what was wrong.
...
Early the next morning, Yang Sheng arrived downstairs at Le Tong’s place at the agreed time. They had breakfast outside together, and the car drove towards the West Suburban Cemetery.
On the way, passing a flower shop, Yang Sheng asked the driver to pull over, and turned to ask Le Tong.
"Tongtong, what flowers does Aunt like?"
Le Tong thought for a moment, hesitated, "Pink calla lilies..."
"Alright, I got it." Yang Sheng replied, opening the car door to get out.
"Senior brother, if you want to buy flowers, buy other kinds instead, don’t buy those..." Le Tong stopped halfway through her sentence.
Yang Sheng gave her a deep look, nodded, "Okay."
In Le Tong’s scarce childhood memories, it clearly showed that a bunch of pink calla lilies would appear in the house occasionally. She hadn’t paid much attention back then, but slowly, she recalled those flowers mostly appeared when her father was home.
Growing older, Le Tong learned that the flower language of pink calla lilies is "love you forever."
Since her father’s disappearance, pink calla lilies had never appeared in the house again.
The things Le Tong couldn’t understand as a child slowly became clear as she grew older.
Soon, Yang Sheng returned with a large bouquet of white roses.
The car reached the cemetery parking lot. Le Tong was responsible for holding Baobao’s hand to lead the way, while Ji Rui, Yang Sheng, and Xiao Li each carried several big bags of items, following behind from the foot of the mountain to near the top.
Baobao was very well-behaved, and since entering the cemetery, he had abandoned his usually chatty habits and quietly climbed up holding Le Tong’s hand.
Le Tong led Baobao to her mother’s grave. Before she could say anything, Baobao was already stepping forward, touching the face of Mrs. Le smiling kindly in the tombstone’s photo.
"Mommy, grandma is so beautiful." Le Tong’s appearance bore at least a six or seven-tenth resemblance to Mrs. Le.
As for what her father looked like, Le Tong had no specific concept.
Later, when she became a little more sensible, she still dared not mention her father to her mother, but secretly searched through all the old books and albums at home, finding no trace of information about him.
Eventually, she basically gave up.
What good would it do to know what her father exactly looked like? Would she go to find him?
"Mommy..."
Baobao’s clear call pulled Le Tong’s thoughts back. She couldn’t understand why she suddenly thought of her father. Despite so many years passing, she nearly forgot she, too, had a father.
"Baobao, come here!"
Le Tong spread a soft mat in front of the grave, knelt down first, gesturing for Baobao to kneel likewise.
Baobao obediently followed, without asking why, and knelt on the soft mat beside her.
Le Tong led Baobao to kowtow three times, "Mom, this is my son, Ji Yu, which makes him your grandson, you can call him Baobao."
If her mom were still alive, witnessing Baobao’s response, would she be happy? Sad? Disappointed? Or feel something else?
