Chapter 382 Stay Tonight (Part 1)
Ji Rui stared blankly at Le Tong for a moment before pulling himself out of the intoxicating whirlpool. Is she... complimenting him?
Though Ji Rui didn’t care much about his appearance, he was aware that his looks drew attention. He had heard descriptions like cool, masculine, and stylish quite often over the years, but they never left any impact on him.
But hearing her say that he looked handsome when he smiled, he realized that his image in her eyes wasn’t entirely awful. It meant that even if his personality didn’t please her, he could still use his charming, smiling face to tempt and even baffle her.
"Really didn’t know!" Ji Rui’s heart bubbled with joy, but he remained as calm and composed as ever on the surface.
She seems to be in a good mood, doesn’t seem angry anymore, right?
Le Tong pursed her lips, unsure whether to call the man arrogant or secretly cheeky.
"If you smiled like that at the Ji Family employee meeting, I reckon you’d ’bam’ and make a bunch faint!"
Ji Rui didn’t care about impressing a bunch; he only cared about one person, "Would you be among them?"
"Ha?!"
Le Tong realized she had foolishly dug a big pit for herself again by offering up the comment. Now, her only option was to play dumb.
Ji Rui still had a bright smile on his face, and with a few strides, he was at Le Tong’s side.
"If you’re among them, I can consider your suggestion!"
Men as serious and old-fashioned as him always have the skill to make jokes sound sincere.
"What suggestion?" Le Tong’s brain stuttered, often turning particularly slow when dealing with this man.
Her mind often blanked out or stalled, and now it seemed to have gone on strike without warning.
"Like that big laugh at the employee meeting!"
Ji Rui’s lips curved up, his mood increasingly delightful!
Le Tong was taken aback, but once she came to her senses, she realized she’d been teased by the man.
"Mr. Ji, you’re becoming more and more humorous!"
Both flirted playfully, the atmosphere becoming unusually warm and congenial.
As they chatted, they passed by a maternity and baby store. In the window, mannequins wore various loose maternity dresses. Ji Rui had glanced at the store from his car before and only thought the dresses looked bloated and ugly.
But now looking at them, he found these dresses quite unique, and their effect on a person might be quite nice.
Ji Rui shifted his gaze from the mannequins to Le Tong, his eyes darkening slightly.
"Le Tong..."
"Hmm?" Le Tong had already turned and was walking alongside him.
"Was it tough when you were pregnant with Baobao?" Ji Rui tried hard to imagine her wearing those dresses from the window; she must have looked quite elegant and beautiful, right?
Suddenly, he wanted to know how Le Tong was during her pregnancy, what her circumstances, mood, and experiences were like.
But his imagination was always quite lacking, so even if he stared intently at her, he couldn’t picture her back then.
Le Tong didn’t expect him to bring up the past, and without much thought, replied, "No, Baobao was quite well-behaved."
She was grateful she wasn’t heavily affected at the time, otherwise, where would she find the energy and time to care for her mother who had just undergone major surgery?
Ji Rui wasn’t surprised at Le Tong’s answer. Their time together had shown how Le Tong disliked complaining to others.
"Has Baobao been quite mischievous since coming to the Ji Family?"
Le Tong always wanted to know about Baobao’s childhood tales, but Baobao himself couldn’t articulate them well, so Ji Rui was probably her best bet for finding out.
Ji Rui’s expression was slightly awkward, but he openly admitted his actions as an incompetent dad over the years.
"I’m not very clear; Baobao mostly lived with his grandfather until he was five. I visited once a week, so I didn’t know much about his life or temperament."
"Hmm." Le Tong didn’t probe further, she didn’t have the right to criticize Ji Rui about it.
The supermarket was not far away, and chatting, they arrived at its entrance.
Upon entering, they realized Baobao and Yang Sheng had wandered off somewhere.
With Yang Sheng accompanying Baobao, neither worried and pushed a cart to buy items for the offering.
Ji Rui didn’t know anything about it, though he went to offer tributes to his mom a few times a year, the housekeeper always arranged everything, leaving nothing for him to worry about.
With no knowledge, Ji Rui simply followed Le Tong around like a little assistant, pushing the cart as she shopped. Just a year ago, Ji Rui never would have imagined he’d be pushing a shopping cart without any authority, faithfully trailing his secretary, serving as a porter and laborer.
At checkout, Le Tong lowered her head, transferring the pile of goods from the cart to the counter, while Ji Rui handed a credit card to the cashier from his wallet.
Le Tong sensitively raised her head, about to say something, but Ji Rui spoke first, "Today, Baobao will pay!"
With his reason, Le Tong found herself unable to object.
On second thought, this pile of things wasn’t valuable enough to fuss over with him.
After checking out, without seeing Yang Sheng and Baobao, Ji Rui pulled out his phone and called Yang Sheng.
"Baobao and I wandered around and found nothing worth buying, so we came out directly. We’re almost home now."
Without much to say, Ji Rui simply replied with an "okay" and hung up.
"What’s up, where are Baobao and the others?" Le Tong glanced inside the supermarket.
"They went home first," Ji Rui said casually, turning and heading out.
No doubt it was Baobao’s idea.
It seems he really needs to step it up!
Le Tong was a bit surprised, not quite believing Ji Rui’s words, but then thought, Baobao’s body hadn’t fully recovered. Perhaps staying in the supermarket made him uncomfortable, so he wanted to go home early?
With this thought, she asked worriedly, "Is Baobao okay?"
"He’s fine; he and Yang Sheng have almost reached home. Let’s go too."
Just as they stepped out of the supermarket, Xiao Li rushed over, taking the big and small bags from Ji Rui’s hands, "President, I just saw Yang Wozhu, he told me to inform you that he and the young master went home first."
Only then did Le Tong fully believe Ji Rui’s words, and upon returning home, the little boy was sitting on the couch, swinging his legs and drinking juice.
Yang Sheng sat for a while, arranged a time to meet tomorrow, and prepared to leave. As he stood up, he saw Ji Rui seemingly rooted to the couch with no intention of leaving.
"Rui, aren’t you leaving with me?"
Ji Rui did not answer him directly, but looked at Le Tong, "I’ll stay in the guest room tonight, is that okay?"
[About Yang Sheng’s story, it’s for a new book, not in this one. Zhu Zi should have explained it clearly, so why are so many girls confused? Frustrated]
