Chapter 1021 - 1019: Want to Try Auditioning for the Second Female Lead?
Chapter 1021 - 1019: Want to Try Auditioning for the Second Female Lead?
The cafeteria at Xinying isn’t big; perhaps it’s because most people take their food to their offices or dormitories to eat. There are a variety of dishes in the cafeteria, with just the soups numbering five or six, and with a dozen or so meat and vegetable dishes. Zhu Qianyu gazed at the delicious looking and smelling food, hardly believing this was a cafeteria.
"Sister Fang, is this really a non-profit employee cafeteria?"
The cafeteria at her school was for-profit, and the food there was barely appetizing, hardly better than pig feed.
"Of course, our boss always says ’Food is the essential need of the people.’ Only by first satisfying the employees’ stomachs can they work with enthusiasm."
What Tian Fang said was essentially Ji Yu’s original words.
Clearly, he understood that if a boss is stingy with employees, expecting them to be generous in return is wishful thinking.
"Your boss is really nice!" Zhu Qianyu blurted out without thinking.
"Wrong, our boss is really nice!"
Although most of Xinying’s artists and employees knew that the legal person of Xinying was Si Han, everyone was aware that the true boss was actually Ji Yu, the eldest son of the Ji Family, the man behind Si Han.
They each took the food they liked and carried their lunch boxes to Tian Fang’s office.
In the office, just like yesterday, there was no one else besides them.
Seeing Zhu Qianyu’s puzzlement, Tian Fang proactively explained, "The company doesn’t have strict requirements on employees’ working hours. All the employees here are agents who usually accompany their artists to various shoots. Besides, I’m here handling other tasks because Si Han is still on a break."
During the meal, Tian Fang shared some inside knowledge about the company with Zhu Qianyu.
"Sister Fang, is the filming crew you mentioned yesterday still here?" Zhu Qianyu was more concerned about the filming than the company’s affairs.
"Yes, do you need a rest after lunch?"
Zhu Qianyu shook her head, "No need!"
"Alright, after lunch I’ll take you to have a look around the studio."
Zhu Qianyu really wanted to plead with Tian Fang to arrange for her to do odd jobs with the crew or anything, really.
But then she thought, as an intern, what choice did she have? It’s better to settle down first.
Zhu Qianyu didn’t say anything, but Tian Fang seemed to guess what was on her mind and took her to the studio, directly introducing her to the director and assistant director.
"Director Kong, Director Fei, this is the company’s intern Xiao Yu, she’s a directing student from R University, here to learn by doing odd jobs. Please take care of her."
The two directors were quite familiar with Tian Fang, and seeing her personally bring someone over, they understood that this Xiao Yu certainly wasn’t just any intern.
"Sure, it’s a request from Sister Fang, we’ll give it our all."
Zhu Qianyu, overjoyed, quickly stepped forward and slightly bowed to the two directors, "Hello, Director Kong, Director Fei, I’m Zhu Qianyu. You can just call me Xiao Yu. Feel free to assign me any task, I can handle any hardship!"
The directors exchanged smiles, "Alright, don’t think of us as too intimidating. Xiao Yu, is it? Go help the lighting technician, he’s got too much on his plate."
After entrusting Zhu Qianyu to the two directors, Tian Fang also instructed the assistant next to the directors to remember to take Zhu Qianyu back to the dorm safely after work.
After Tian Fang left, the two directors couldn’t help but glance again at Zhu Qianyu, who had quickly gotten busy. Director Kong said, "She has the right look. I bet Sister Fang wants to sign her up?"
"I think so too! She seems very young; if she enters the industry now, her future is surely bright!" Director Fei agreed.
They said this because they had witnessed Xinying’s growth with their own eyes, watching Xinying turn many unknown newcomers into shining stars.
Misunderstanding Tian Fang’s intention, the two directors were very courteous to Zhu Qianyu. Of course, the work had to be done, but their attitude was amiable.
Zhu Qianyu followed the lighting technician, fiddling with the props all afternoon. It was much more exhausting than she had anticipated.
The main actors in this crew had very tight schedules, so the directors had to extend daily shooting as much as possible, striving to complete filming in the shortest time.
Thus, on her first day at work, Zhu Qianyu encountered overtime.
Dinner was a boxed meal eaten with the crew.
However, the boxed meal tasted quite good.
"How do you find it, Xiao Yu? Is it to your liking?" Director Kong and Director Fei, having been asked by Tian Fang, naturally had to pay special attention to her.
"It’s delicious, probably the best takeout I’ve ever had," said Zhu Qianyu, genuinely. These meals were much tastier than those from her school.
"Of course it’s delicious; it comes from the company canteen, not really takeout," Director Fei explained. "The boss allows us to order takeout, but we all agree that the canteen’s food is better."
The conversation started naturally over the topic of food.
Zhu Qianyu listened from the side and joined in occasionally when they asked her something. Overall, this first day as an intern was a thousand times better than she had anticipated.
At the very least, as a newcomer, she didn’t encounter any oppression. Though the work was busy and tiring, the relationships appeared to be decent.
"Xiao Yu, are you planning to sign with Xinying? Director Kong and I have an upcoming idol drama, and the second female lead is about your age, with a similar temperament. Are you interested in trying out?"
Director Fei, being direct, felt that after spending the afternoon with Zhu Qianyu, she perfectly matched the role of the second female lead in their new drama. Plus, recalling Tian Fang’s words at noon, he thought of doing a favor in return.
He expected her to be overjoyed and thankful, but to his surprise, Zhu Qianyu hesitated for a moment before firmly shaking her head.
"Director Fei, I’m sorry, my ambition is to be a director, not an actor."
Director Fei wasn’t convinced by her words, "How old are you, Xiao Yu?"
"Eighteen!" Zhu Qianyu didn’t hide it because she saw no need to. After all, her resume stated it clearly; there was no way to hide it.
Director Fei seemed to have a good rapport with her, and although she had already refused, he continued to persuade her earnestly.
"That’s why, you’re still too young to understand that directing and acting aren’t completely separate. Look, many excellent actors occasionally direct scenes and even win Best Director awards. Likewise, directors sometimes act and win leading role awards. Opportunities are what matter. Why not try if the role is right?"
Zhu Qianyu was firm in her heart, but seeing Director Fei talk so earnestly, she feared offending him by refusing repeatedly and had to respond diplomatically.
"Thank you, Director Fei, for your offer. Let me think it over, okay?"
She wasn’t really considering it; she just intended to convey her thoughts indirectly through Tian Fang later.
