Chapter 1020 - 1018: Official Onboarding
The next morning at eight, Zhu Qianyu saw Tian Fang’s car right on time downstairs from the dorm."Morning, Sister Fang!"
"Morning!" Tian Fang got out of the car and helped Zhu Qianyu stuff her luggage into the trunk.
"Sister Fang, you seem really familiar with our campus?" Zhu Qianyu said, lowering her head to fasten her seat belt.
"Of course I am. Si Han entered the entertainment industry in her freshman year, and I’ve always been her agent. Back when she hadn’t graduated yet, except for the times when she was out filming and had to squeeze out time to come back for classes, at all other times I was no different from an R University student. I practically came to report to R University every day."
After Tian Fang said this with a smile, she started the car and drove onto the tree-lined road.
"That’s really tough!" Zhu Qianyu let out a soft breath.
"I’m not the one who had it tough. That was just my job. Si Han is the one who really had it hard. On top of R University’s coursework, she still had to film, release records, shoot commercials, and on top of that attend all kinds of different training sessions."
Even though Tian Fang had managed so many artists, she still felt that among all of them, Si Han was the most driven and the best at juggling everything.
Take now, for example. Even though she’s at home taking care of her child, her fans still can’t forget her. Every now and then she posts a few short videos on Weibo, and it’s enough to keep a whole bunch of fans excited for a month. In this constant cycle, her popularity actually hasn’t dropped much at all despite more than a year of semi-retirement.
No wonder Ji Dabao dared to make such bold claims. Looking across the entire entertainment industry, no one can replace Si Han’s position.
"Yeah, Senior Si Han is like a goddess at our school. Whether it’s the teachers or the students, everyone gives a thumbs-up when they mention her."
Zhu Qianyu had been a fan of Si Han for two or three years, so she actually knew that Si Han had been the Ji Family boss’s adopted daughter and later became his daughter-in-law.
But she had never connected that famous Ji Family to this person Ji Huan.
So when she talked about Si Han now, she was just treating her as a super idol up on a pedestal, never imagining that this idol would one day have anything to do with her.
"Yeah, it really wasn’t easy for her to get where she is today."
And precisely because she climbed to where she is now purely on her strength, step by step, her popularity and fame weren’t as easily used up or worn out as those of typical idol stars.
Their topic along the way basically revolved around Si Han the whole time. Nearly an hour passed and somehow neither of them felt bored or awkward.
Tian Fang had already had a good impression of Zhu Qianyu, and after chatting in depth for this hour, she liked her even more.
"Mengmeng, this is your new roommate, Zhu Qianyu."
When Tian Fang led Zhu Qianyu to the artists’ dorm, a pure-looking girl with long hair came forward to greet them, and Tian Fang gave them a simple introduction.
Wang Mengmeng had just graduated this year. Because she won the folk group gold medal in a Music College campus competition, she caught Tian Fang’s eye and was a rookie Xinying planned to heavily promote next year.
When Wang Mengmeng heard that she was three years older than Zhu Qianyu, she took the initiative to assume the responsibility of helping this little sister. So Tian Fang left Zhu Qianyu in the dorm, told her to tidy up and they’d have lunch together at noon, then left.
Wang Mengmeng led Zhu Qianyu into the bedroom. "Sister Fang said you were moving in today, so I already wiped down the bed and cabinet. The mattress and sheets and all that were sent over early this morning on Sister Fang’s orders. You can put your clothes in the closet; I’ll help you make the bed."
Such a friendly attitude took Zhu Qianyu a bit by surprise. After all, even in student dorms, roommates often had a lot of friction at the beginning.
She had no idea that Tian Fang had repeatedly told Wang Mengmeng to look after this little sister. In Wang Mengmeng’s eyes, even if Zhu Qianyu wasn’t literally some VIP relative, she was definitely a newcomer the director valued highly.
Otherwise, how could an intern possibly receive such special treatment?
"Thanks, Meng-jie! Go do your own things, I’m not in a rush to organize this stuff, I can take my time."
Zhu Qianyu really wasn’t used to being taken care of. Aside from her Sister’s care, which she could accept with an easy mind, other people’s kindness always made her feel ill at ease.
But Wang Mengmeng insisted on helping. In the end, she couldn’t keep refusing without feeling rude, so she had no choice but to let the other girl help her spread the sheets.
"The company has a cafeteria. The food’s pretty decent; it’s in A10 over by the offices. You can pay cash or put money on a card."
While busying herself, Wang Mengmeng filled her in on the basic information around here.
"Then let me treat you to lunch later!" Zhu Qianyu naturally didn’t want to owe her a favor.
But Wang Mengmeng shook her head. "No need. The company covers room and board for employees and contracted artists. Every month the company gives us a meal card. As long as you don’t go overboard, it’s basically all paid for by the company."
Zhu Qianyu thought to herself that as an intern, she definitely wouldn’t get this kind of benefit.
She didn’t know that when Tian Fang came to pick her up, the first thing she did was hand her a card.
"This is the company’s meal card. As long as you’re not too picky, you can get three filling meals a day."
After helping her finish unpacking, Wang Mengmeng headed out, saying she was going to a vocal training session. Now there were only Zhu Qianyu and Tian Fang left in the room.
"Sister Fang, I’m just an intern." Zhu Qianyu didn’t take the card, assuming either she had misunderstood or the other party had misspoken.
"Interns create value for the company too. Take it. Don’t tell me you’re that lacking in confidence, that you think the company loses money by hiring you?"
That kind of goading really works on young girls. "Of course not!" she said, snatching the card and stuffing it into her pocket.
"Come on, I’ll show you what a ’people-oriented’ company looks like."
From Tian Fang’s expression and tone, it wasn’t hard for Zhu Qianyu to see that Tian Fang was very loyal to Xinying.
"Sister Fang, you must be one of Xinying’s founding veterans, right?"
Tian Fang turned her head with interest to look at the girl next to her who was about the same height. "Heh, what makes you say that?"
Zhu Qianyu reached out and gently plucked a sweet osmanthus twig that was sticking out into the courtyard. "Intuition!"
It had to be said she was very clever. She’d say half and leave half for others to guess, which both left room for imagination and avoided shutting the conversation down with something too absolute.
"Your guess is pretty accurate. I am indeed one of Xinying’s first batch of employees. When Xinying was first founded, there was only me as the agent and Si Han as the only artist. Who would’ve thought that in just a few years, Xinying would basically become the industry leader."
Even in front of outsiders, Tian Fang was totally unreserved about Xinying’s current status.
On that topic, though, Zhu Qianyu felt too embarrassed to chime in. After all, she was just a little intern—where would she get the confidence to comment on her internship company’s structure and development?
Although she had a very good impression of Tian Fang, her subconscious wariness still kept her from talking freely.
Unlike the casual chatting they’d had on the way over, once it involved company matters she became especially careful.
She even suspected that Tian Fang might be quietly testing her somehow. So everything she said had actually been filtered in her head—what could be said, what shouldn’t be said—she would run it through once in her mind, and only when she was sure it was safe would she let it come out of her mouth.
