Chapter 286: Partial Awakening [ 9 ]
"Which choice prevents Clementine from dying?" I asked.
Godfrey paused. "Well, the choice that benefits us, of course. You’re in our territory, and if you choose to side with the humans? Well... you’ll be killed alongside your lover."
Right.
"Then I choose the demons. Now call off every single person who’s after Clementine. Tell them to go back."
I didn’t want to make this choice.
But given the circumstances, I did not have much of a choice to begin with.
It was a nightmare... a never-ending nightmare that I couldn’t escape, no matter how much I tried.
Should I just... unleash all my Divine Energy and wipe this whole realm off the map?
"That can be arranged," Godfrey said.
Then he snapped his fingers, causing a small thread of energy to escape his fingertips and fly away. I followed that thread of energy as best as I could, and thankfully, it reached the Demon Kings who were monitoring Clementine.
There was one Demon Emperor too, and he seemed to get the message as well. I was relieved, expecting this nightmare to finally end.
Yet through this connection that my Mystic Eyes had established, I was able to hear a few words from the Demon Emperor that made my body freeze immediately.
"It’s done. Kill her."
My Mystic Eyes cut out, and I was once again back in my body, staring at Godfrey’s nonchalant figure.
"Let’s go finalize your transformation, and then you’ll get a little more freedom," he said.
But I wasn’t having it.
Rage flashed through my eyes as my demonic horns grew larger and larger. Eventually, they were several times their original size.
"You’ve gone back on your deal, Godfrey."
"Hm? I never gave you a promise. I merely told you what would be in your best interests for your own survival," Godfrey replied.
Haa...
No.
That’s enough.
This could just be bait to make me use my power.
But what choice did I have left?
Overpower him with just my regular Gifts and my current state of power alone? That was impossible, especially since the whole city was guarded.
I’d be dead before I could even do anything.
So despite my wishes once more... I decided to go with the reckless route.
The route that didn’t ensure my survival.
That route was none other than my awakening.
Time seemed to slow down considerably as my consciousness floated into my Mind Realm. It was as peaceful as ever inside it. Though, because of the fragment I had brought in here a few minutes ago, there were some broken structures.
It sucked, sure. But at the end of the day, what I was really aiming for was the purple rose containing a very small chunk of my Divine Energy.
I approached it and grabbed it by its roots, pulling it out. Then I imagined a giant bubble forming right beside the bubble which contained all of my regular energy. I made the bubble much larger... if anything, it was nearly 10x as large as my regular energy bubble.
And once I was done, I made the tough decision to directly make a connection to the realm where all my Divine Energy was stored, causing a spatial crack to manifest in front of me. However, instead of allowing the Divine Energy to freely spew out into my Mind Realm, I brought the Divine Energy bubble over the spatial crack.
Finally, I stopped trying to suppress the Divine Energy from escaping that realm. Bit by bit, the purple energy began to flow out. As for the rose in my hand, it wilted away and turned to dust.
Yet I didn’t mind it, as I just continued to stare at the bubble being filled to the brim with Divine Energy. Minutes, hours... days, and even weeks passed. I couldn’t tell, but maybe it had already been a month?
Eventually, the spatial crack closed by itself, and the bubble of Divine Energy that was 10x the size of my regular energy now rested in the sky of my Mind Realm.
And to think this wasn’t even all of the Divine Energy I had...
More like 1/10th?
This wouldn’t even count as a full awakening, but I was certain that with this much energy, I’d be able to easily escape Helheim and save Clementine.
So when I made sure the bubble of Divine Energy was powerful enough to hold the Divine Energy and not shatter, I finally opened my eyes.
Everything felt different. My body... my senses. Even the way I perceived time and focused on my Gifts. Everything seemed to be sharper and more defined. Not to mention, I felt like with a single use of Telekinesis with Divine Energy, I could uproot half of this continent in an instant.
Was that too much?
Heh.
Whatever.
It wasn’t like it mattered.
I raised my hand and inspected my far sturdier body. Then I used my Mystic Eyes and arrived in front of Clementine in an instant, realizing that the fight had already started. That was why I returned to where I was and glanced at Godfrey.
He didn’t seem to realize what had just happened.
But he didn’t need to.
I was sure he wasn’t the only person who was responsible for my suffering.
So I decided to cut him some slack.
And I did so by completely abandoning my regular energy reserves. Instead, I allowed the Divine Energy to flow freely through my body, numbing my senses and dulling my emotions.
It was... soothing, calming even.
So calming, in fact, that when I focused just a tiny bit of my Divine Energy onto Godfrey’s neck, I wasn’t able to control my strength and shattered his neck.
I tried to bring my energy back, but all that managed to do was rip his spine out. As his spine hung out of his body, I saw how quickly he was trying to regenerate and attack me, but every single attack he threw at me was weak.
Very weak...
Was this really a Demon Emperor?
No...
I didn’t care either way.
With a single thought, he vanished from my sight. As for his spine, it remained in my grasp, solidified and appearing like a katana.
And just like a katana, I decided to slash the wall in front of me and escape.
