To Love A Villain

Chapter 236: The Pendant Of Eternal Cage

Chapter 236: The Pendant Of Eternal Cage

>>Pen

"The Bringer Of Death," The witch said, making my fear rise like bile in my throat, "That is it’s name." My heart drummed in my ears

"I see," My voice came out barely above a whisper. I was the one who insisted on meeting the witch so Val brought me along.

But she had said something that almost took the soul out of my body

"You can’t see who it is?" I asked, feeling nervous

"It hasn’t fully evolved yet," I couldn’t see her eyes, she had a black net veil covering her eyes, yet it looked like she was staring right at me, "So, I can not pinpoint it." There was devastation in her voice, "But the hero will meet her in her true nature in The Dark Woods."

"The Dark Woods," Val nodded, "I see," I turned to look at him. She had already told us our destination a week ago but this is the first time she said we’d meet the great evil there.

We all have been training together and the witch called Val to tell him it was time for the party to depart.

"Val," I turned to look at him, "I’ll be waiting for you outside,"

"Pen?" He looked at me with a concerned expression, "Are you alright? You look pale,"

I forced a smile, "Just nervous about leaving," I gulped.

"Oh..." I began to move when he caught my hand, "Wait for me, I’ll be right out."

The witch was watching us. She didn’t say anything but I could feel her gaze on us, "Okay," I nodded and walked out

The witch was quiet. She waited once Pen was out before I felt her gaze come back on me.

"What will you do, if the great evil is in the form of your lover?"

!!!

I was not expecting a question like that. It caught me off guard but I composed myself fast, "I’m sure I would be able to tell them apart." I answered confidently

"And what if you can’t?" There was an ominous vibe in her voice, "What if the bringer of death is exactly like your lover, no differences at all."

...

She forced me to think. With my hands tied behind my back, my eyes darted around.

"But Pen is a good girl, and the bringer of death is evil. If that great evil is out killing people, wouldn’t that be enough to tell that it’s not Pen?"

She slowly nodded, "Keep your own words in mind," Her raven flew from the shadows and came down to her shoulder, "Don’t forget the warnings." Smoke from the cauldron was steaming the place and because of it, I didn’t even notice that the raven had brought something with it.

"Come closer, hero," The witch said and I walked closer to her, going to stand right at the edge of the table.

"Here," She said and the raven hopped towards me, "Take this pendant."

I extended my hand towards the raven, "In case you think the enemy is too strong, this is your final resort." The bird dropped the item in my palm and I stared at it.

Iit was golden in color, the gem in it shone prettily.

"What does it do?"

"It’ll bind the enemy to the place where you use it." She answered

"Is it really that strong?"

"This pendant was made by the strongest witches in the world. Myself included. It’s taken from the planet’s core."

"The core?" I was shocked

"The binding it will do, can never be undone, not till the core is alive."

"The planet’s core?" I frowned, "Well, if the core dies, don’t we all?"

She smiled, "I wonder. I’ve heard undead creatures can live in dead places."

It sent a shiver down my spine. Then I looked at the pendant, "Will it work?"

"It’s called the Pendant of Eternal Cage," I couldn’t see it since the net covered her face, "It will work without a doubt." She was smiling

>>Pen

It can’t be

I shook my head

I’m sure there’s another thing there in the forest. Some evil entity that lurks there. I’ll go with Val and defeat it myself

I know!

I’m sure of it!!!

I kept moving my leg in restlessness.

Yes, I know I’ll be fine. We’ll be fine.

"Persephone?" I heard someone call me and turned to look at her. It was RoseMary

"Yes?"

She walked over to me, her light brown hair tied in twin tails, "There’s a letter that came for you." I noticed she was holding it in her hands.

"Oh," I extended my hand and took it from her as soon as she approached me, "Thank you," In the last few weeks, all of us had gotten really close.

"No problem," She smiled, then looked at the black door next to which I was standing, "Is Val still inside?"

"Yea," I began to open the door, "I’m waiting for him."

"Hmm," She looked back at me, "Alright then," She waved at me, "Meet you tomorrow morning."

I waved back at her

"Yes," We leave early in the morning. As she walked away and turned the corner, I turned to look at the letter. I opened the seal, took a deep breath and unfolded the paper.

I wonder if Mom and Dad are alright?

It’s been two months since I last talked to them. They never made an attempt to talk to me, so I sent them a letter, telling them I was soon leaving with Val to help him finish off a great evil.

My hands trembled.

Never did I think it’s name would be Bringer of Death

I bit my lower lip

That’s what my name, Persephone, means.
