775: Chapter 775: Revealing the True Face 775: Chapter 775: Revealing the True Face This is just great.

We finally managed to meet with Su Hui and Gu Ling and now we’re being split up again.

Gu Fan looked at the dark forest and couldn’t help but sigh.

“If all else fails, I guess we’ll have to impose on you, Qian Ye.

Don’t worry, though, we won’t require the sacrifice without offering you something worthwhile.”

“What do you mean?” Qian Ye hadn’t quite caught on and Gu Fan had to explain further.

“What I mean is that if the removal of the ancient town’s curse requires you to expend a great deal of your stamina, then we should perhaps let you stay here a little longer.”

“That’s alright?” The hope on Qian Ye’s face briefly flashed before quickly returning to its initial calm facade.

However, Gu Fan had his doubts: “There’s something I don’t understand.

First, there’s Qian Feng here who’s out to settle a score with you.

If you’re severely exhausted, there’s no possible way you could be a match for Qian Feng.

Staying here would only increase your risk.

Why haven’t you considered returning to the past instead?”

After hearing Gu Fan’s words, Qian Feng first seemed taken aback, then offered a mild smile.

“Oh indeed?

I’ll manage on my own since posing danger to anyone would be inevitable, whether I stay or return to the past.

I have therefore decided against making such a grand sacrifice.”

To this, Gu Fan agreed: “I believe that unnecessary sacrifice should be avoided.

Once you return to the past, and Lin Xi to the present, I will task Lin Xi with breaking the curse.

Qian Feng wouldn’t trouble Lin Xi, so it’s an ideal solution, a single move with two beneficial outcomes.”

“Yeah, I agree, this surely is the best method.” Qian Ye also nodded in approval of this plan, seemingly reaching a consensus with Gu Fan.

However, the moment Gu Fan turned around, a malicious glint surfaced in her eyes.

Just as Qian Ye began to channel her supernatural power, preparing to ambush Gu Fan, she suddenly heard Gu Ling shouting, “Brother, watch out behind you!”

“What!” Qian Ye felt a chill run down her spine as she saw Gu Fan quickly turn around, his foot swiftly flying towards her.

The sudden happenings left Qian Ye unprepared and she could only attempt to block the attack with her hands.

Nevertheless, the force of the kick pushed her back several steps, causing her to lose balance and fall onto her butt.

Qian Ye, looking shocked, asked, “Gu Fan, what the hell was that for?”

“I should be asking you, what are you up to.” Su Hui and Gu Ling arrived on the scene, joining Gu Fan, boxing her in.

Confused, Qian Ye queried, “How did you guys find us so quickly?”

“Well, we did have a tracker.” With that, Su Hui took out her mobile phone, showing Qian Ye the tracking device she had installed on Gu Fan earlier on.

Qian Ye frowned as she hadn’t known that Su Hui had such a trick up her sleeve.

Suddenly, something came to her mind, “No, that’s off.

Earlier on, when you reached the altar and found Gu Fan, it was entirely based on the flare’s location, not the tracking device.

That means you just installed the tracking device.”

Su Hui nodded, “Correct.

When you proposed that we split up, Gu Fan asked me to do this.”

Hearing this, Qian Ye was in disbelief.

She looked at Gu Fan, as if seeking an explanation.

Gu Fan simply shrugged, “I had no choice, you left us with no other options.”

“What on earth are you talking about?” Qian Ye looked clueless while Gu Fan’s expression turned serious, “In the beginning, you disappeared and reappeared, then disappeared again.

I was not suspicious of you, believing that you were just staying under the radar to observe my abilities.

However, as things progressed, I noticed some discrepancies.”

“Where?” Qian Ye queried, unsure of what she had given away.

Gu Fan continued, “You can lift the curse on this mysterious ancient town, yet you couldn’t dispel the witchcraft on Zhang Yang and Yang Xinran.

Okay, perhaps you’re unfamiliar with witchcraft, I suppose that’s understandable.

But why would you attack Xiaoling?”

“What are you talking about?

When have I ever attacked Xiaoling?” Questioned Qian Ye, her face one of utter bewilderment.

“In the forest, as we were retreating from the assault, we were always able to evade danger with Xiaoling around.

Yet, when you started getting closer to Xiaoling, she sensed danger, which I witnessed, because I was right there.” Gu Fan explained, after which Gu Ling immediately added, “Indeed, I sensed danger approaching, and when I turned, I saw you.

And then the feeling of danger disappeared.

At that point, there was no one else behind me.”

Upon hearing that, cold sweat started to trickle down Qian Ye’s forehead, but she remained stubborn, “Doesn’t make any sense.

Why would I want to attack Xiaoling?

And why wouldn’t I want to leave this place?”

“That’s what I don’t get either.

You didn’t harm Xiaoling, unless you didn’t want us to leave.

But why?” Gu Fan questioned as he continued to watch her closely.

“After a while, I began to contemplate what would happen if we couldn’t leave.

We would eventually have to concede to the ancient town’s requests and have you lift their curse.” Gu Fan coldly chuckled, “But you mentioned that breaking their curse would severely strain your spirit and that you wouldn’t be able to face future crises.

Thus, you wanted to stay here a bit longer.”

Walking over, Su Hui intervened, “As a matter of fact, your true motive is to remain in this era, isn’t it?”

Qian Ye swiftly refuted, “What a joke!

What would staying here do for me?

Live a mundane existence like Lin Xi?

Don’t I have a far better life in the past as a queen?”

“This era is too beautiful to even compare with the past.” Gu Fan countered, which left Qian Ye seething.

“Gu Fan, I warn you, just because you think I need you now, you can’t accuse me of whatever you please.

I’m not to be trifled with.

You can’t accuse me without evidence.”

Unfazed, Gu Fan retorted, “Why would I suspect you for no reason?

I had a discussion with Qian Feng.

She mentioned that anyone cursed can only be freed by the caster themselves, because the curse is created using specific objects only known to the caster.

And hence, it’s likely that the curse on the citizens of this ancient town originated from you.”

Qian Ye was taken aback, she didn’t expect Gu Fan to be so cunning, to consult with Qian Feng.

Soon enough, Qian Ye regained her composure, “Indeed, I cursed them here, but as far as my memory serves, I have never cast such a curse on anyone.

This must be a future development.

But that doesn’t mean breaking the curse wouldn’t significantly strain my spirit.”

Gu Fan, deliberately dismissive, responded, “I’ve talked to Qian Feng, are you trying to deceive me again?

Although breaking the curse would drain your energy, a few days of rest is enough to replenish it.

Yet, you made it seem as though the impact is more severe, as though a longer recovery period would be required.

You’re simply finding excuses to delay your return to the past.”
